Gun control debate (merged)

There’s no such thing as enough safety with firearms.
It’s literally the thing you should be the most serious out.
Seems like some famous actor was waving a gun around Willy nilly on a set and killed somebody recently.
Amen.

I didn’t grow up with guns. I knew nothing about them, how to store/shoot them, etc. even as a young adult. Took an in-person 8 hour firearm safety course shortly after purchasing a Glock (that tragically fell out of a boat into the lake a while back). One of the best things I’ve ever done.

Update.

A couple of days ago I was talking with a good friend who lives across the street. He is a gun nut (meaning he is the proud owner of a number of guns and is happy for people to know that). I was telling him about our conversation about "things going to sh!t" and jokingly asked him if he would sell me a couple of guns in that situation. He said "Hell, I'll give you a couple if we are on the same side".
So I'm good now.

And I'll still get to wear my G I Joe outfit.
He’s gonna give you a couple? Tell him you need four, old pal.

1938 Germany is not Germany 2024. And what you're saying has no bearing on what I said. Basically, the USA has no guts, nor will to make an effort to reduce the daily gun killings by introducing any reliable gun control legislation. As for Kipling, my guilt is merely selecting which parts of his poem to quote to lend support for my views. Something so-called conservative Christians do when they quote the Bible selectively to justify non-biblical views. What's good for the gander, is good for the goose. Do you understand that? Naw, you can't cause you're wearing a Trump supplied blindfold masquerading as a COVID face mask. You guys are the best fun on Earth, and possibly Worlorn as well.
sure it isn't.

aren't they rapidly increasing military spending, dealing with "unwanted minorities", and considering military action against Russia.

History is a circle. never assume we are beyond the failures of the past.

You will always avoid that guns aren't the problem. In Germany and other countries, famously the UK, they have had to turn to additional weapons bans after they got rid of their guns. because guns aren't the problem. people are the problem, and going after the object is just a stop gap that doesn't fix the issue.

none of y'all actually care about the lives, or you would want to fix the people, you know the ones doing the living you claim to care about. you care about the guns because you care about the power the government can wield over those you don't agree with which is why you are so stuck on MAGA this that and the other. you are stuck in a myopic mindset and are willing to accept any action as long as it gets your opponent.

Your last two sentences summarizes you fairly well.

I'm assuming that means you would rob your friend/neighbor and shoot them if they protested.

We seem to have some fundamental differences. Of course, that was always obvious - and explains a lot.
you want the same thing, you just want the government to do it for you.

So, it wouldn't be your first instinct, but it's the first instinct you project on others? interesting.

Who said he would risk his life? I said that he said he would give me a couple of guns.
Why? Maybe because we have been friends for 15+ years and he is not a horrendously despicable human.

I did mention he was a non-trumper...........borderline anti-trumper.
thats never mattered for you before. heck just yesterday someone was accusing me of being MAGA despite my unceasing vocal criticisms and dislike of Trump.

?????????
It's always mattered to me.
But the larger issue is, will your criticisms and dislike keep you from voting for him?

If yes, nothing but respect.

already did, nothing has changed in that regard. I consistently sit on here and argue with people to not vote for him, and to vote for someone they actually want. don't just vote for someone because he is the best of two bad options.

doesn't matter to you and people who think like you. whenever you come up against an argument you can't win you will just lump the "other" into some group you can dismiss. and it goes far beyond left leaning people and Dems. its the same line of thinking used on the right. easier to attack the messenger than the message.

You cherry-pick and choose what you prefer to ignore among my posts, to justify false claims. No point in even pretending to discuss anything with you. So why bother? Except for amusement. But I'm civil. Here's a cup of my fermented yak butter tea.

please. What total nonsense.
you don't want us to have guns. want the government denying what we should have, taking away any you think are too dangerous.

you want us robbed, you prefer the term taxed, to pay for all the programs you want.

not sure where you fall on the green initiatives but plenty of left leaning fold want to take away people's ICE cars, fuel burning stoves, and air conditioners. there were multiple speakers at the last international bruhaha wanting to take away people's gardens as they were ecocide who produced relatively more carbon that commercial farming.

100% truth.
I know you believe that, which is why I cannot escape having to assume that you are simply a 2-dimensional thinker.
If you had a tad more depth of thought, you would know why that is not only NOT 100% truth, but a simpleminded accusation.

I stopped reading after your first 7 words because they are totally wrong and completely unfounded.
It just proves to me that you have processed little, if anything, of what I have said.

I have never once in my life supported anything that denies a person's right to keep and bear arms.

True, you just want the government to steal any arms you don't think people should have.

Que the nuclear bomb BS.

Every clear thinking person acknowledges a line has to be drawn.

I know you do not acknowledge that, which is why I specified "clear thinking".

I do admire your willingness to cling to your stance all the way to the patently absurd.

This maybe true. But what I continually see from leftist on this issue (and many others) is the progression of further restrictions. It goes like this:
We support the 2A. Just not assault weapons.
We support the 2A. Just not semiautomatic weapons.
We support the 2A. Just no weapons that hold more than 6 rounds.
We support the 2A. But one weapon per person is more than enough.

To the eventual “Do you even need a weapon? They are dangerous!”

Don’t believe that’s how it works? How did we get from “What 2 people do in their own bedroom is no one’s business” to “Celebrate Pride month by wearing this rainbow flag on your Jersey or else!! You hateful bigot!!”

Or

“Abortion. Safe. Legal. Rare” to “Abortion. On demand and without apology”.

Y’all never stop! That’s why I refuse to give an inch. Because yall take miles!!!

I can't imagine that working out real well for him. I'm sure he thinks he will be one of the "chosen ones" that the government will protect and shield from the riff raff like us common folk.

I'm sure he does believe that he will be one of the chosen, rewarded for his blind loyalty and devotion.

You are wasting your time trying to have a conversation with him. He would rather slap a bandaid on the problem, than to actually fix the problem. He even freely admits that it's a people problem and wants to limit the non-problem's access to them. Their line of thinking can't be logically processed.

Yep, I remember when loothervol got such a beat down that he said he would quit posting in this thread.
