Has the concept of dressing professional in public service jobs been completely discarded now?

I have told my wife don't she dare bury me in a suit and tie. Those days of wearing a monkey suit are over for me.
most people dont even get buried in a suit anymore either - last one I went to the dead guy had his hunting cap on

The very concept of a "suit" and/or "dress clothes" is pretty silly when you think about it. It's a whole lot of resources spent for no tangible reason. Most folks buying power has decreased over the last 40 years, and something had to go. Us mortal folk just can't afford it as much.

That sounds like me in the 70s, 80s.
I still have 3 suits hanging in my closet.

I have 2 at the moment. Just because it's silly doesn't mean it's not required lol. I don't often need to wear the jacket or tie these days though. I knew I was getting old when a dress shirt and slacks became my preferred work attire.

I have to wear one almost every single day.

Not to mention the tie is maybe one of the worst clothing inventions in history.

I'm gonna hunt your wife down and pay her to bury you in a crimson suit and tie, while the choir sings the bama fight song, and nick saban preaches your funeral for calling me a Georgia fan!

Im just saying, but who the F cares. Did her attire impact her ability to serve the ice crea? take your money? or impact your visit in any legitimate way. Literally who gives an F.

I don't care at all what the person giving food to me is wearing. I only care about the quality of the food and the amount of time it takes to get to me. Customer service in chain restaurants has just gotten dreadful over the last 15-20 years. I don't know, maybe it's always been dreadful, and I didn't really notice it as a kid. I rarely go to fast food restaurants anymore, but whenever I do, my order is always wrong. I get the crispy chicken when I asked for it grilled. I get fries when I ask for onion rings. I get an unsweet tea, when I ask for a sweet tea. "I'm sorry, the ice cream machine is broken." It never fails. Something is always wrong. And the people at the drive in don't even read the order back to you or tell you how much it costs. They just extend their hand, expecting you to put money or a card in it. If you have the nerve to ask them how much the meal costs before paying, lord help you. You get a huge eye roll and sarcastic quote. What a terrible inconvenience for them to have to communicate with you. And now they expect you to tip at places like that. It's shameful.

People today dont even wear a suit and tie to a funeral anymore
Here in So IL, I have gotten used to the fact that many people wear jeans to the funeral home. Sometimes, the jeans are even clean ones.

I just sent my retirement letter to the local school board, effective following the 2025-26 school year. Maybe I will move back to Tennessee and work in an ice cream shop. I promise I will not wear an "I Am a Salty B1+ch" t-shirt, nor will my a$$ be hanging out of my shorts. 😉
