HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Apparently Sansa got hitched to a Jonas brother in Vegas last night. Even had an Elvis impersonator officiate.
Well, that's just about standards.

I think a lot of people need to adjust their TVs.

My brother has a badass 65” Samsung and it struggled so bad with the deep blacks mixed with the light reflections off the snow. When I re-watched on my much cheaper 50” Hisense 4K the quality was outstanding.

Maybe it was all in the 4K, but I really think the Samsung’s picture just needs some adjusting for such a cinematic episode. I tinker with my TV settings all the time, but my dad and bro don’t, and idk many other people who do. Factory settings are not optimized for picture quality and the presets are pretty much Instagram filters.

Checking in with my 65" Vizio E-series. Had no issues whatsoever. A second watch on a much higher quality Samsung did struggle a little bit with the overall darkness. However my Vizio's settings are tuned, the Samsung's aren't.

I tune my brightness settings for shows like this. My Samsung 4k has really deep blacks, so I know to set it how I like it when I'm watching anything set in darkness. It's not hard to do. And the show looked great. I don't understand how so many people act like it's a big deal to change their brightness a little...instead they would rather piss and moan.

I realized really quick that the blind groping aspect of the battle was meant to unsettle you, so I did not tinker too much with it so I could still feel the unsettled uncertainty that the characters felt. It was very effective, even more so when you realize that is what they were going for. I think they knew that the tech has issues, so instead of over correcting it, which they obviously could have done if they wanted..they instead used it to elevate the dread. That is why it does not bother me so much.

So what option does the North have?

Dornes full army is as rested as you can be. Perhaps sending Yara to go pick them up and meet at Dragonstone is an option.

Is there anyone left of the Tullys? Who is over there right now? maybe they will join.

The vale probably has a few troops. Doubt the brought their entire army to the battle of the bastards.

there has to be an army from Essos that will join.

Dorne would be the first place I would contact. They've still got their army, have been traditional allies of the Targaryens and have major beef with House Lannister.

As someone mentioned before, there's potentially the Second Sons in Essos.

Edmure Tully is either dead or in captivity but I think there's still a lot of bannermen who would flick to Catelyn's daughters.

Perhaps some bannermen to former houses Tyrell and Baratheon?

Cersei has plenty of people in Westeros who would like to see her dead.

Wasn't Dorne's army largely lost in season 7 episode 2? I thought Yara and her portion of the Iron Fleet were moving them to King's Landing for a siege. That's when Euron's fleet attacked. Destroyed most of the ships, killed two of the sand snakes, and capture Tyene, Ellaria Sand, and Yara.

Problem with Dorne is it is most likely in complete chaos. House Martell is gone.

Yeah the books have Dorne as a very large player still...show turned to eliminating them, so I don't know that we'll see them.

To be fair though, North might have more numbers and you would think the other Northernmen who didn't come to Winterfell will now fall in line knowing the larger threat (the undead) is eliminated. Plus Dany still has a dragon or two right?

I have that same Hisense and it was perfect.

So what happens Sunday night?

I have no clue, other than that I believe that there is going to be some sort of out-of-nowhere OH SH!T! moment to completely disrupt everyone’s expectations.

Hope so, anyway! 1556895399021.gif

It would have been an interesting twist if shortly after Melisandre collapsed and died they had cut to Jon Snow and showed him with a strange look on his face, then have him collapse and die.

I mean, if all the Army of the Dead has to die again when the Night King dies, isn’t it fair for the same rules to apply to the other side?

j/k
Sort of
That would be the case if the show had any continuity. My theory was that resurrected people by Rh’llor made them fire wights essentially to combat the ice wights of the Great other. But that would have meant Beric would have died when Thoros did last season so that went out of the window.

I think they were going to pick up the Dornish forces and got caught on the way. I saw something on Reddit about a guy casted for this season who could reasonably be Dornish. I always thought Dany should have landed in Dorne and established herself there.

It'll feel hollow if the Dornish army is what is supposed to save the day for them. Dorne has been mostly absent from the entire series outside of a few episodes in season 5 that were largely pointless and the characters from Dorne have been killed off already except Ellaria who is in the black cells. Almost as lame as the eagles from Lord of the Rings coming in to save the day.

Maybe they'll fudge time and space and get Dany down there with some new made up characters just to try to establish that connection that doesn't exist. Maybe they'll come up with an interesting way to make that work.

Tyrion sees the value of a surgical strike. Sam quickly invents the parachute. Drogon deposits Arya and Gendry at King's Landing on a dark night. She kills the Mountain and assumes his identity to chop Cersei and Euron into bite sized nuggets that Gendry folds into the brown stew and serves it up in Fleabottom.

Well in the books Dorne sends their prince (Frog?) and some bodyguards to Dany why she is across the sea. The plan was to have him marry Dany to reform that alliance and then they would assist once she made it here.

While all that was happening though, Dorne was having an internal conflict where the sitting prince was potentially being overthrown. His daughter the princess was actually involved if I recall correctly.

Dorne is much more involved in the books. In the Tv show they barely gave them any story. I view the show and books as different things at this point.

IIRC, Doran acted like he wanted to remain neutral if not remain loyal to Cersei/Tommen and that frustrated Ellaria. I don't remember if he was killed in the books or if that's just tv show. But yea they seem to be heading towards overthrowing him in the books. But I think whichever Martell he sent over to attempt to wed Dany was killed I think.

Well don't forget...Dorne (Doran) was actually playing all sides. He sent his son to Dany why planning to wed Ellaria to Aegon (not Jon Snow in the books) and then was also taking in Cersei's daughter to wed another son...if I recall correctly.

Sad the show basically eliminated all of Dorne's storyline. I found it and the Greyjoy stuff to really carry things in the books.

He was. He had Trystane set up with Myrcella and the other Martell I forgot his name over in Essos chasing down Dany. He was trying to cover either way depending on who wins the war for the iron throne.

At first I didn't like it when Martin expanded on Dorne/Ironborn stories. I was caught up in everything else going on and it felt like a distraction. Starting a new story in the middle of the very developed main story. Till a few pages in, then it would get really good and I was hooked on that story too and saw how it worked with everything else. I hated that Victarion Greyjoy wasn't included in the show and they wiped out just about all of the Dorne storyline.
