Just to throw out options:That would feel incomplete and it would be very unsatisfying. I'm not a book reader so I wouldn't take it as personally as McGill, but that is no way to end an epic fantasy. You should have a very clear winner. IMO.
The show will not end with a Mad Queen on the throne. She dead. My guess is Dany executes Tyrion, Jon dies taking out Dany, and Gendry is left as the person with the best claim. Arya becomes Queen and the show ends with Sansa calling her 'Your Grace'.
Fans like you, who buy in so completely and get so involved in the story, are writers’ dreams! You’re the ultimate reward for all their imagination and fire and plotting and writing and rewriting, because they have created a vibrant and intricate world that you have willingly entered and embraced.Ok...after much thought...I am just mad because...they got me. I expected Daenarys to be a ruthless conqueror if it came down to it, she obviously had that in her from all of the POV chapters, but I did not see an indiscriminate, baby burning lunatic with no conscience or compassion for the weak and downtrodden. She also ALWAYS has had that in her heart.
That is why I'm so upset, and it is a justified criticism no matter what any of you say, but I apologize for going thermo about it.
Plenty of signs Dany was going to do something crazy. The problem is how little they put into her point of view this season. They didn’t develop her festering anger enough. Maybe another quick scene of flashbacks when the bells were ringing showing her teetering in the balance. Something showing her internal struggle and history. Maybe a couple of those “with Fire and Blood!” quotes next to her father’s “Burn them all!” Plus they made it so obvious in the opening recap. I just don’t like how the events were written. The events themselves make sense, but deserved more attention to detail and probably 2 more episodes at minimum.
I honestly believe that had this and last season been given the episodes this story deserved and these characters been given to time progress to landing where they have, everyone would be far more accepting of what has transpired. As it stands, although the progressions make sense imo, they feel unearned because this show has just turned into rushing past plot checkpoints to get here instead of letting these characters progress to where they are now. Unfortunately, I think that will always be a cloud that hangs over this show.Ok...after much thought...I am just mad because...they got me. lotta good points. and the plot points are definitely there to go back to, to see how she arrived at her current state of mind.Sorry for the novel.
So you sorta feel like I do..That she is not clinically insane, that she just gave into her impulses and became a completely evil, indiscriminate and ruthless dictator? And you buy that?I think they have developed it enough for it to have come out like that. As others have said, Dany has lost all her "calming influences" over the last couple of seasons. Remember back in Season 4 where Dany was getting ready to send the Second Sons to Yunkai and kill all the masters? Jorah was there saying "hold on, sister, let's try to do this without everyone getting a head lopped off." She listened to that advice after a moment to reflect. Plenty of other times she's shown rage at the situation and threatened to go off on a fire and brimstone crusade against anyone who opposes her.
Dany has been shown to be very impulsive with her anger at times when things just aren't going her way or the way she thinks they should go in order for her to get "the debt paid in full." Jorah, Barristan Selmy, Tyrion, Missandei, Jon Snow and others all tended to make her stop for a brief moment to think about what she was doing and mayyyyyyyyybe that isn't such a good idea. Who does she have as advisers?
Missandei? Her last advice was "burn this ************ down!"
Tyrion? She doesn't trust him.
Varys? Well, 'bout that.
Jon? Doesn't trust him.
Davos Seaworth? Probably won't trust him because of his relationship with Jon. I'd bet he's pretty much full raging Team Jon after what just happened.
Grey Worm? Likely not going to get good advice from someone who just lost the woman he loved.
Yara? Seems to have disappeared and is likely going to have to consolidate her rule. And probably will side with Jon after seeing what happened to Kings Landing and the Iron Fleet.
She's not getting good advice from anyone at the moment because she doesn't trust anyone and the last person she did fully trust told her to burn it to the ground. So, her angry impulses she's been shown to have the past seven seasons are coming on more frequently because, again, there's nobody rational and reasonable there to temper those impulses. This isn't a recent development. It has been building for several seasons in the background.
One thing about GoT that many have forgotten this season is the story line is like an onion with a lot of layers and depths. There is nothing that should be a surprise at this point to any of the folks watching at home. Everything that's happening now has been foreshadowed in some form over the last seven seasons.
