Herman Cain

I just don't think he's put a lot of thought into this plan.

Actually, if you've listened to him on the radio much, it's apparent that has put a lot of thought into it. 9-9-9 is just a moderated version of what he really would like to do which is the Fair Tax.

He had a long interview on OutFront yesterday. He had a question about unemployment in the african american demographic and if affirmative action is still needed. His response was that the 9-9-9 plan could be reduced to 3-3-3 in areas that are troubled the most (his example being Detroit). like that won't be abused by politicians. I just don't think he's put a lot of thought into this plan.

Still though, he's a great interview because he doesn't back down and he isn't shaken at all by criticism (doesn't take it personally). He can take a tough question and then joke the next one. I guess it's his radio experience.

Why would you assume that it is not well thought through? It is intentionally simple and intended as an intermediate step toward the Fair Tax. He plainly spells that out on his website. How is that not VERY well thought out?

Those like Laffer and Ryan who don't listen to the "experts" concerning supply side solutions but rather look at the direct data believe this is a pro-growth tax scheme that will result in more revenues to the gov't than predicted by zero sum models. Of course liberals who believe that a dollar taken or not taken in taxes has no compounded implications to the economy think it will cost the gov't money.

Either way I am for it along with the appropriate and progressive trimming of the Federal gov't's size, scope, and cost.

Just caught Cain on Meet the Press. He really handled David Gregory well. I still question his command of some issues but I think his candidacy is going to have staying power.

I love Cain.

He might be my favorite candidate since Reagan.

Everytime I hear him speak I honestly get excited and like him more.

He just seems very, very real.

I like him too, but the debate tomorrow night is likely going to be a giant game of dodgeball for him. Everybody except for Romney is going to be coming hard for him.

... but the more they come at him and the more he explains his ideas (properly explains I hope) the more he is going to gain ground I hope.

Maybe I'm delusional but the guy honestly gives me hope. He just has this wise ole grandfather feel that makes me wanna set down next to him and listen.

Cain has always been like that. I used to enjoy his talk show out of Atlanta.

The lower tier candidates led by Bachmann are going to try hard to trip him up on specifics on 999. The Bachmann campaign was sending out Tweets earlier showing an "independent" analysis of 999 and how it would cause a tax increase on people with incomes around $30k.

But it's more chances for him to slip up. And he can't afford a blunder at this point.

I like him but he ain't got a chance with stuff like that
This is what I've been afraid of happening to him. He's a satirist at heart and he's got too many columns and radio clips that the media can twist and run with. I have this picture in my mind of a reporter wearing earphones while reading columns with hi-liter in hand in case he finds something.

You know this already. So if the media starts to punch holes in his d=credibility, would you run away from him? Would most conservatives run away from him based on a few sarcastic comments?

The only ones that would be moved by that nonsense are people that weren't gonna vote for him anyways. Half of the people on the fence might be turned off by it, the other half would find it refreshing, so he splits their vote. That is why they are called fence sitters.

I'm more concerned with the general election where he'll be painted as an extremist or as Joe Klein did, a moron.

A valid point. I guess what I'm more concerned with is him being painted as not serious enough.

The media would be the ones doing the painting... and we know for a fact that if Jesus himself were running, they would do everything they could to ridicule him.

I don't see why anybody that supports Cain would be too concerned about how the media portrays him. Whoever gets the GOP nod will catch all kinds of hell from the media.

Let's see, they said Reagan was an actor turned cowboy, Bush was a failed oil man and idiot, they pretty much called Palin every name in the book and for some reason, you are concerned about what they might do to Cain? Guess what, you already know. Any GOP candidate that comes up will get attacked. Why should that concern you?

You don't think that if Romney got the nod they wouldn't make a mockery of his Mormonism? Or Perry being GWB 2.0? I mean really... you guys are being silly. Like I said, the people in the middle are a wash because the media will turn off as many voters as they energize with their antics.

They will actively go after Cain. They would only passively go after Romney and many would probably support him.
