Hey coach worshippers...

I think a wait-and-see approach is very fair. And I think it still applies after game five. It sounds like you've moved from wait and see to a negative outlook because we weren't in the Oregon and Florida games with "the potential for an upset".

I was in those same stands at halftime was was sick about that first half. It was a bad decision to start Peterman and our staff cost us points in that first half. We should have taken a field goal when in range instead of forcing a pass on third down (which I believe resulted in a turnover) and I disagreed with the decision to put Peterman in a passing situation on 3rd and long inside of our ten yard line, which also cost us points.

I almost feel like if we get blown out, we're outclassed but if we compete then we let one get away.

I personally don't have any issues with criticism of this staff or certain player performances. I took a little issue with this thread because the OP wants to complain about whining, by whining, and calling everyone "coach worshippers". I'd just like to discuss specifics and figure out the reasoning behind those who are still in full support and those we are waning a bit after what we saw yesterday.

:hi:

I had no expectation of a win at Oregon. I had hoped they learned from that experience and would have improved on it for the UF game. Face it, playing against UF's offense had to seem like going from racing a Ferrari to a Buick.

It didn't happen. The things the coaches and players were Tweeting about in the off-season haven't shown up on the field.

That's what I'm disappointed in. Not the W's and L's, but the execution on the field.

That's where we differ, because I do see some of the coaches work showing up in this team so far. I definitely need to see more and I'm expecting us to work through some of our issues by the time November rolls around, but I see a difference with this group than what I saw the last few years. Maybe I'm imagining it.

I can agree that there are areas of execution that are disappointing to this point, however.

The second I saw the title thread I knew who the author was. He's never approved of this hire, this staff and never will. Right now he has no reason to.

That being said, he'll disappear if and when Butch gets it turned around or shows progress.... we'll get a steady diet of this from OregonVol if he doesn't.

I would say that the fact that the coaching staff has (apparently) zero confidence in the freshmen has something to do with this. Worley runs, we are just one hit away from a true frosh at the helm.

Didn't CBJ and staff recruit those two frosh QB's??

Just thinking out loud here, but do you really have to be all that mobile to be effective? He seems to average 5-10 yards a carry when he chooses to run. If nobody covers the back side, and the goal of the read option is to crate a man advantage on the play side, doesn't he just have to get the 5-10 yards and fall down?

he averages 4.4 yards per carry.

Are you implying they are at fault for not recruiting guys who would be ready to start by week five, or are you just legitimately asking? Just trying to clarify.

Good summary. At times we looked like a very competent team. Against SEC defenses selling out to the run I fear we'll have trouble repeating it. A lot of what made us look good were Lane and Neal's 2 huge runs.

And it must not be forgotten that the Vols played a team that has only been playing real football for 5 years! South Alabama has the 91st ranked offense in the AA.

Isn't that higher than what our defense was ranked last year? :)

I keep seeing you guys whine about all the "crazy" "irrational" fans who dare to hold the coaches accountable for the performance of the team. So, I was wondering if you geniuses could tell me what other major college football programs' fans would be happy with the coaching staff after narrowly avoiding a loss to S. Alabama?

Go on, I'm really curious.

Seriously? Did I miss something the last 3 years? Did we have back-to back-to-back number 1 recruiting classes? Did we win national championships and conference titles I'm not aware of in that time? No? Oh... we really did have 3 losing seasons in a row with a terrible coach who could barely muster a top 40 recruiting class then?

Well... that certainly changes my perspective on this new coach who has coached exactly FIVE games. He ought to be ashamed of himself for not turning Worley into the next Peyton Manning in the mere 9 months he's been on campus. While I'm at it, he ought to go ahead and just offer himself to the mercy of the public for not turning the 113th ranked defense from last year into the 85 bears.

This is satire... sad that I feel the need to point this out. Get a grip people.

We are dieing a death of 1000 cuts but the nick to the femoral artery is Worley. He's the most critical piece to the puzzle and has had more glaring and repetitive struggles than anyone.

IMO Worley has shown himself to be a below average QB. UT will have diff beating any team in the SEC without much improved play at QB. For every good throw he makes, there is a bad one to follow.

Fair assessment.

Why do people think coaches can just come in to a horrible team and take them to the Super Bowl? We aren't thrilled with some of the things that this staff has done in game, but the defense has vastly improved and...

The only time we've defended offensive playcalling is when people whine about "the same 5 plays". Why on earth would Butch wanna open the playbook when they can't even successfully execute those "5 same plays"? What do you expect them to do? Baby steps.

The coaches have their hands tied. Maybe with a decent QB to lead ON the field while the coaches lead from the sideline things would look better. Lastly, the beat and lost to whom they were supposed to and were competitive against Florida. UGA shouldn't even be close, so if its not its ok but we'll play the game and see what happens.

Kiffin just got fired from talent pool USC and look what they did with Crompton? Took awhile didn't it. People that expect this staff to get Poorley to goodness after 3 games are stupid and will never be satisfied with a coach.

I'm sure Richt got the sane treatment at UGA last week and he just beat LSU so he sucks too right

Everyone could do without the "geniuses" comment. It is possible to disagree with someone without being a jerk.
