Hire Holgerson....

OP, you talk and talk about Chaney's O not being what's needed to win the SEC and that we need to run the ball. Control the line and run the ball is what you say. This was just a couple of weeks ago. Now, you make a thread about hiring Holgerson? A spread coach who gave up 63 to Baylor last week?
Looks like another drastic moods swing has occured again

WVU had a pretty good running game tonight...

I appreciate your enthusiasm on the subject, and willingness to prove your point on facts.

That being said.

NC State, Ga State, Florida, and Akron is not really even close. Just got a little more impressive with NC State holding #3 FSU to 16 pts and winning.

Ga St. isn't even close to the same team in FCS as James Madison is, and Akron is as bad as Marshall against the run. Hell, Maryland is one of the best run stopping teams in college football, and UF isn't even Top 30 right now.

2012 West Virginia Football Ranking Summary

As of 9/29, when this thread was created. All I did was add tonight's numbers in for WVU. Also, you do realize we had one more game under our belt, than they did right?? Or were you too busy trying to prove me wrong to see that??

70th in D1 in rushing yards per game when you made the thread.

70th. That's really Bama and Lsu type football.

And we are barely Top 50, and after tonight, WVU has closed the gap on us, and has a better per yard average on attempt than we do. They have ran for 60 less yards than we have, as of tonight's stats against Texas.

The point of the offense is just to take what ever the defense gives. If you drop 2 safties deep to defend the pass, then Holgorsen will have a numbers advantage in the box and will run it. If you put more guys in the box, then he will throw it. He just wants to spread the defense out and exploit their weaknesses.

One thing to remember is that total run yards isn't the most accurate way to determine how well WVU runs the ball. Every fly sweep is considered a pass and they run a lot of screens as well. Holgorsen loves packaging plays as well. That is combining 2 plays by running 1 on each side of the field (usually a short pass/run, a short pass/screen, or a run/screen) and leaving 1 defender unblocked and reading him. If the player goes one way, then the ball will go the other way. So those are often designed running plays that sometimes end up as passing plays.

That's what everyone else looks at.

Anytime the ball moves forward behind the LOS, it's a pass. The ball moves forward on a fly sweep, no??

They added a shovel pass to make a variation of the fly sweep. Handing the ball off toward the line of scrimmage means nothing. If it did, almost every fullback run by an option team would be considered a pass as the qb often hands the ball off toward the los when he is making the read.

WVU uses a touch pass on the fly sweep instead of handing it off. The ball moves forward in the air so it is considered a forward pass.

Our offense is doing just fine. The defense and kicking game is struggling right now. Holgerson brings nothing to the table.

It is just plain funny how a coach can have a good half year and suddenly, "let's hire him."

If he is so great, why is his defense so poor?

East isn't as strong as the West right now.

I think East vs West is at least debatable at this point. For my money, South Carolina plays with Bama. South Carolina and Florida are better than LSU. What makes the West dominant at this point?

If Georgia is the 3rd best team in the East and Tennessee potentially the 4th .. I'll take the East myself.

Dooley was I think 17-20 at LA TECH..1 winning season at 8-5...WAC..how hiring him was a good idea shows how ignorant Hamilton really was.

Remember when everyone said that about Meyer. 'That gimmick crap will never work.' What did OSU put up, 63? Seems they are really reeling from a coaching change. I thought those were supposed to cripple programs. And a new offense. Shoot, that will take years to learn and be effective.

that is what OSU gets for ponying up $4mil and getting a proven winner. just think how much more satisfying it would have been for that program to roll the dice on a potential diamond on the rough.

Do you think that our talent and depth is remotely close to Ohio states? If so, you might want to go over our depth chart again. Our situation is completely different than theirs. Not to mention the difference in competition. If we played in the big 10 we would be top 3 in the conference

You were probably one of those saying a spread option would never succeed in the SEC. And, also saying Meyer was done. UT lost to freakin UK. What the heck makes you think they would finish in the top 3 in the Big 10? Losing Tresell was devastating. The bottom line is tOSU went out and made THE hire. They ponied up and it is paying off now.

What about Arkansas' talent? Finished 3rd last year. The bottom line is the RIGHT coach versus the WRONG coach. What you have to ask yourself is what kind of program is UT. Should a school like UT be experimenting with an unproven coach with a losing record? Do you think UT would be where they are if they had hired a coach who warranted $4mil? Is UT a program who goes on the cheap? Right now they are going cheap and the results?

Yep. Best analogy is the "Camaro Rule". UF, UGA, and UT all have Camaros. Horsepower and handling is fairly even. UGA and UF hired good drivers.

We got Felix Unger. 'Nuff said.

Go Vols.
