Holy Crap -- basketball penalties

The only thing that could be worse would USC-type sanctions on the football program...and we don't know what will happen there.

Hamilton should be fired tonight quite honestly. It's time to move on and find someone competent (and no, not Phil Fulmer).

Dude you are crazy. The NCAA hasn't even taken any kind of action. I think we have to wait this out and see what happens.

It could be SMU circa 1988 (I think)....:)

Really, at this point I'd be fine making Fulmer interim AD as long as there was a legit search for a real one.

Like I said, it's close, but not rock bottom.

And no, because I could easily see Fulmer firing Dooley and making himself Head Coach. I don't even know if he could do that anyways, but he would undermine Dooley I believe.

I said we don't even know what we will do with the football program. We are close to rock bottom with our Athletic Department.

yes, overreacting is a pretty good way to put it.

Look, in terms of punishment, it'll be okay. I don't think it'll be too bad, but still, it looks terrible for the university. It's just another low blow. And while I think the NCAA will accept our penalties...you just don't lie to the NCAA. You just don't.

Well we seem to be heading down the same path as USC at this point.

No way! Just like Hodge just said, "it's not like someone went down there with a sack of cash."
It's just nature of the beast. He lied about making to many phone calls, or too many text messages. He didn't lie about late night visits, or special "packages". We're not even close to what USC has been doing over the last decade. Who knows what Kiffen did, but we still have and will continue to have a stellar program when it comes to the NCAA.

Just fire him, that will solve it right? Remember where he took us last year and how he kept the team together. Have you seen the recruits he already has for the next 2 years?

Your wasting your time. Dude is a little slow. Ok I lied, REALLY slow.

They do, but when they get caught it is a huge problem regardless of what the issue is.

not arguing that and it's apparent here, but let's not pretend that this is some isolated and egregious incident. Called when we shouldn't have, using a tactic that most programs use, then told the AA that we weren't blatantly ignoring their rules. I get it. Don't like it and don't like that we got caught, but this is a widespread issue that won't end at UT.

Your delusional if you think that other bball programs don't make extra phone calls to recruits. It was the lying from Pearl that makes it look bad. As far as the recruiting penalties go, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

Verc you sound like an idiot.

This is NOT lack of institutional control. Mike Hamilton took care of the problem. This is the worst hit. By April they will say that there are not more problems. It will come out around the time that UConn finds out they are banned from postseason play for 2 years.

Hamilton should have taken care of the problem before it became a problem. I have always supported Pearl and was overjoyed with the success he brought to the basketball program. However, there is no excuse for cheating and lying. The problem should be taken care of by his being fired. He now has zero creditably. He will make us the laughing stock of the SEC. As much as I hate to admit it, Hat has been correct about Pearl all along. Hamilton has now lost the only positive thing he had going for him and I don't see how either he or Pearl can really overcome this situation with any creditably for the institution. We should clearly make a statement that cheating and lying will not be accepted at the University of Tennessee. Winning at any cost is not worth the damage to the reputation of our great university.
