I am afraid your position is an agenda based mindset. Every play a QB makes is situational. Bet the staff has shared operating instructions based on down and distance AND game situation. Showing manhood when you are in for mop-up duty is probably discouraged, but part of your body of work for analysis. When he was in for an injured HH he was really not in a position to risk injury.
Even his most famous last play vs Kiffy is oddly characterized, in that as he was being chased out of the pocket and going toward the sidelines he DID slow up before he approached the LOS at the 21 and looked downfield and could have chunked a prayer toward the goal line, but instead tight roped the sideline for 13 yards and was caught 8 yards short with a shot to the chops when slowing and hoping for an overrun by the defender a a cutback was his only hope. Tougher when you give up your speed to take every moment to find a target. Check out him surveying the field and his body angle as he approached the 25 through the 21 and where and how he was contacted at the 8. Many think throwing a prayer was the best option, but that was and forever will be an assumption. It for sure would have eliminated risk to his body if he chunked it and stepped out. This on a play where our 5 OL lost the battle immediately against the 3 guys rushing and put him into scramble mode. He NEVER had a chance to set his feet and survey the field. That replay is still available in the thread What's the word on Milton, post #242. All are invited to review it.
If and when he is our starter and meaningful game situations present themselves, we can measure his heart and determination against how HH did IN THAT ROLE and in those situations when we apples to view.
