I am 100% convinced Butch Jones will bring us back

However, the Brick By Brick theme is really for the fans to temper expectations. In that regard, he's fighting an uphill battle.

I think we can give our kids a little more credit than that. You don't think they know they have the opportunity to be the foundation of something great? If someone came to you and said "I'm gonna give you the tools to make a difference" you don't think you'd respond?

Define making a difference. I would say in football that means winning. If UT loses to UF, Bama, UGA, and USC what exactly have they helped build?

Don't get me wrong, Butch inherited a mess. But the "Brick By Brick" and getting the fans & alumni involved are all part of his message that this will take some time and we're all in this together. Rome wasn't built in a day, etc.

Dooley, on the other hand, alienated everyone he could and had no one in his corner at the end.

Butch is doing it right.

So after reading that, I'm still not sure what your saying. You think this team is the foundation of the rebuild or not?

I'll have to watch it again. But if what your saying is true then I feel like I've made a mistake in blaming the coaching. I felt like western was content to go into halftime and we handed them a touchdown.

Thanks man. You have completely unraveled my argument.

I was listening on the radio at that point, because I had an errand to run. After second down, Kesling said that Petrino wasn't going to call a timeout and then corrected himself and said that he did call a timeout. I remember that distinctly, so if that wasn't the case, then Kesling was really confused.

Sure... but what does that mean? If UT finishes 6-6 this year with no "signature" wins, then I highly doubt the 2013 team will be view with any historical reverence down the road.

So you only care your kids who are playing this year as related to how history is gonna view them?

we are lucky to have a great detailed staff who knows what it takes to win and is used to winning. but, its gonna be a rough go. we need to win one or two big ones here or there we arent supposed to and build that depth to compete for championships.

I was skeptical of the hire at first. However, after taking some time and really looking at what he accomplished at CMU and UC with the talent he had, it's become clear that he gets the most out of his teams and is a very good coach. So my next question would be how well he can recruit. So far I think it goes without saying. We'll see how it pans out but right now, I truly believe that he will get UT back to prominence. I think we'll at least be playing in SEC championships under his tenure. It might take a few years but I think it will happen.

Right now I'm excited for this weekend. I don't expect to win, but I'm anxious to see what Butch is able to do.

No, that's not what I'm saying. At least I hope that's not what I'm saying.

How many 6-6 or 7-5 teams are truly remembered? I promise, as soon as UT turns this around, 2008-2013 will be viewed as a speed bump in UT football history.

Was the 1988 team a foundation building team? They started 0-6 but won their last 5 which started the run UT had for nearly 2 decades. No one is looking at the 1988 as anything special.

I do think this staff coaches very well and pays attention to the details. But one of the biggest details of defensive football is wrapping up. So far we are horrible in yards after contact against running backs and receivers. Until that is fixed we are going to be a very vulnerable football team.

Giving up over 200 yards rushing to WKU shows signs of a malignant condition. Linebackers are too slow and can not tackle. Might as well take them out and put in two more defensive ends or safeties in. We have to have some walk on LB's that can do a better job than Brewer and Johnson did against WKU.

I thought the front 7 would be good and we would have to worry about our secondary but the opposite is more true. If it wasn't for Daniel Hood I am not sure anyone would know where to line up on the DL. He is having to prod people almost every play to get in the right position. If the offense blocks Hood you are pretty much giving up a 8 yard gain because there does not seem to be any other support against the run.

Just watched again. Your right. I had no idea. It makes sense now.

Check, check....reroute,reroute! :)

I think CBJ is the 21st Century version of Doug Dickey. I think this season and next are like Doug Dickey's 1964 and 1965 seasons. Like Doug I think Butch will turn Tennessee around.
