I retract my UK statements

If you would trade two conference losses for a December non-conference win every year, you are clueless about what's best for your program.

Its just how it is. The same can be said about Indiana. I'll take a sweep from UGA, USC or UT over a UL or IU win. If UK fans thought the UT/UK matchup was that important I'd be selling my tickets higher (or even somewhat equal) to the Florida, UNC, UL or IU games. The UT interest just isnt there like it is with other teams.

I have been to plenty of games at Rupp - at least one involving every team on his list. The bolded part is either ignorance or a lie. If UT is in a down year, then sure, they're not going to be as excited as they are when a highly ranked team is in town. But, when UT is good, it's a loud, energetic atmosphere.

Wrong. The only time Rupp hosted UT and was really loud was Gillispies last year and Cal's first year. It was a little loud during Cals 2nd year, but after that its been a regular LSU kind of dud. No where near the atmosphere when UL, Indiana, UNC or Florida walk in.

It was an important game, both teams should've wanted it bad. Difference, one coach had their team prepared and the other didn't.

hahaa....yeah!

Had nothing to do with out-coaching or preparing. You cant coach heart. Noels injury has obviously disheartened this team to the point where they didnt even want to be there from tip-off. No fire, no desire, no effort. John Wooden in his prime wouldnt have changed that today.

Yeah, I think UK basketball fans look at UT basketball like UT fans look at UK football....like a joke.

And its record is similar.....UK has to hit rock bottom in basketball for UT to beat them once in a 2 game series.

And if you want to compare the preferred sports success in each program, UK has more titles in basketball and the titles are much more current, UK has had more success. I dont know exactly how many titles UT claims, I think a few are from the 30's? Not sure....but I've seen them win one in my lifetime, and it wasnt even in this century. UK is considered one of the top 3 (if not the best) basketball programs of all time. UK vs UT in its preferred sport is a little different.

Dont be so bitter. Congrats on the big win today. UT played balls to the wall. Enjoy it!

lol. This is silly. We have beat Kentucky more than any other program. Your coach and all of the Kentucky people I know consider UT a rival but you don't?. Haha. I think your more interested in down playing Tennessee to nothing because we gave you guys one of the worst beatings your program has ever seen.

I think it has to do with how classless and crybaby your fans are. I think the players saw Ashley Judd, your coach, and your stupid, crybaby fans and decided to give up. Damn shame too. Can we help you with that? We are a pretty generous fan base. We Vol fans will donate money to help you buy some tampons, some Kleenex, and a pacifier.

Hahahahaha.

When has Kentucky football done jack sh*t besides end a 26 year win streak? You can't apply these things where it fits for you, chief. Your standards for "rivalry" are about the stupidest things I have ever read. Get out, troll.

He's saying we feel about you in basketball like you feel about us in football.

Kentucky's rivals are Louisville, Indiana (when we play them), Florida, and it's been an on and off rivalry against UT, depending on how the trend is going.

It's similar to football. At times, UK gave UT their share of losses, and it was considered a rivalry to the point where they battled over a bourbon barrel. In our lifetime, not so much. I don't consider it a rivalry again until we are trading wins and losses regularly.

That said, Pearl made it fun to play UT. It was growing into a rivalry again.

Congrats on being 5-19 in the last decade and 66-149 overall. Perhaps you have the most wins against UK because you've played us the most. In fact, most of your wins came during the Mears years and the early 1900s.

Beatdowns happen. They suck for the losing team. As I said before the game yesterday, congrats. If a UK fan couldn't see this coming, he was blind.

I know VolNation has lost its credibility from the Gruden fiasco, but a good friend of mine was with Alex Poythress Northeast coach who said he got a call from Coach Calapari saying if Poythress went to Kentucky he would leave $25,000 in his mailbox. this is the last i ever heard of it, but other people that i know involved with both Poythress and NE bball have said the same thing, and he did end up at UK....

im from clarksville BTW before you question why i would ever be around them

You are either full of ****, or your friend is.

Yeah, that "Bourbon Barrel" rivalry. It was so close I dont even remember it...seems like you werent paying attention during those "football rivalry" years.

Now there was a "Beer Barrel". But you cant be talking about that because the series was 75-24-9 from 1893 to 1998. Not very rivalry"ish".

Vandy/UT is a rivalry because its in state. Just like UK/UL is. If Vandy was in Florida you guys wouldnt care. I find it amazing you dont understand that.

UK's main rivals are Louisville, Indiana UNC, Duke, Kansas and Florida. All of those teams have accomplished major things or eliminated UK in a tourny. When has UT eliminated UK, accomplished anything or even ruined UK's title hopes? I honestly dont even recall a loss to UT that was really painful. I dont like losing today, but its not like UT stole UK's title hopes.

Genius: According to geography 101; Louisville, Indiana UNC, Duke, Kansas and Florida are NOT inside the KY borders. Your team sucked! They got blown away!! Go cry on your KY board.

Oh BTW, your team is the weak sister on our football schedule! I love the fact that we have owned KY 26-1. In your eyes that's 1-26...how's that for a rivalry!

Burned up a few brain cells since 1998. ;) Yes, it was a beer barrel, but to diminish its importance to both teams is a mistake. Go back and look at the old films of the winning team taking possession. Like I said, it was ebb and flow. Most of the time, UT won it, during other periods, it was pretty competitive.

Then you agree UT is UK's most successful bball rival...?

Not wrong. I have been to Rupp several times. But, I guess the only thing you can do today to thump your chest on volnation.com is act like the UT game is not important to you.

Calipari is a lousy coach unless his team is supremely more talented than his opponent. Wooden's the same way. Wooden would have done nothing without Gilbert buying him talent. Good comparison.

The list of rivals in the first paragraph makes a whole lot more sense than the other guy's list.

And, I prefer to start counting in 2006. Then, we're 5-12. We were holding our own very well until Calipari and World Wide Wes showed up.

Good point. There was a Bourbon Barrel, but it was UK and IU, and it probably went away about the same time as the Beer Barrel.

Irrelevent. We are talking about UT/UK. Although, not sure why Tennessee and KY wouldnt have the bourbon barrel. 2 states notorious for brown liquor for sure.

Why is it irrelevant for me to explain the source of the other poster's confusion?

It's true, however the fact is you suck way more in football than we do in basketball. We're only a few years removed from being a a legit possible Final Four team, you've never been even remotely close to being in consideration for a BCS bowl.

Honestly, I get no thrill of the thoughts of Kentucky fans pinning UT as a rival. Kentucky has a storied past and mostly handled all of their "rivals" so what does win / loss have to do with it? UK rarely blows Tennessee out when we play with almost always better competition so that says a lot for the game itself. I do have a problem with cry baby Kentucky fans though. Fussing about leaving your starters in a majority of the game is dumb when Cal is notorious for this. And to use the excuse of young players needing more time on the floor to gel or UK has a very thin bench is honestly weak. They have plenty of players on the bench but when the tables are turned and Kentucky gets drilled, they cry like their dog just died.
