"Let the man coach more than 25% of the games in his first season before we start calling for his head. Even if BP was here its not like we have world beaters on this team. There is a talent deficiency that will take time to recover from."

.......we would probably still have Harris and hopson bc the draft would of came and went when the ruling came out not to mention his other top recruits

UNI can knock Kansas out of the tournament but an entire roster of 4*'s can't beat 1-9 Austin Peay? Right.... blame the talent. Austin Peay is full of talent with amazing coaching.

Being undersized and lack talent is irrelevant when you can't even beat the worst of the smaller schools. No way is Tennessee fielding less talent than Austin Peay.

His other top recruits? Mind letting us in on who those might've been?

You could buy $7 uppers to any game except Kentucky. Ticket prices aren't that bad.

Funny thing is that I bought the upper $7 ticket and before the game started, a TB rep came around and gave everyone in my section lower level tix. Sat on the 12th row. Welcome to the new era at TB. Said that we didn't want to look bad with the fan support on tv.

I'm kinda planning on that happening when I come in for The Citadel game

It is people like this (the OP) that bring shame and a blatant ignorance for relevance to this board and to the fan base. I wish these people(all the Dooley and Cuonzo Haters) would just crawl back into their caves and jerk off to pics of Lane Kiffin.
OOOOsh!
More like BP in orange body paint.

We knew this would happen.

He got UW-Milwaukee to the tourney twice when they never even went to the NIT. How much talent does he need? He won with Buzz's kids and he won with UW-Milwaukees scrubs.

He was a good recruiter and coach.

It's amazing how the fan base has turned on Pearl.

"Pearlophile" is just another d'bag way to say "hater". Total cop out to make everyone believe everything is great. Obama is the best and the economy rules!!

Grow up... sometimes you gotta bend the rules and sometimes the truth is just the truth. This new aged "hater" crap will be the downfall of the world. At least people can shuffle and tebow. Amazing

He always coached less talented teams better anyway. I.e. the Kansas game, and all of his first year. I agree we should let the guy coach more games, but by bruces 10th game we knew we had a rock star.

One of best post in a long long time!!!!!! I was on me and wifes honeymoon in Orange Beach Alabama condo watching Tennessee dismantle Texas and thought man WOW!!! We have found the golden egg in Bruce Pearl. Jajuan Smith was raining long distance 3s and Texas was way behind and Daniel Gibson left game with concussion. The announcers were trying to rationalize the crazy events. I was yelling at the tv dude we were smoking the Horns way before dude got hurt. I even earlier respected Bruce when he sent the players to thank the fans in the stands in TBA for coming when they played ETSU. I agree with everything you said. When i found out that with a show cause a coach could still be employed but has things they cant do. I thought lets get keep the man and when his show cause runs out let him rebuild.

There were plenty of people there for games the last 6 years. Not Martin's fault the fans decided not to support the team this year.

If you want to sit at home and watch on TV, that's fine and great, but don't come here talking about down attendance and black curtains.

6 years ago was a life time in both TV contracts and economic situations. And I don't believe I said anything about attendance being down or black curtains.

Being there in the upper deck >>>>> watching on TV

I agree. i of course dont sit in the worst currently but in my 33 years of life I have sat about everywhere in there. I currently have 5 seats togther in first row of section 314. I have sat at very top row once when Florida came in highly ranked with Matt Nelson and Matt Bonner and I would have rather been there than watching from home. However I understand how thats not conducive for everyone as some have health issues the higher they go.

I'm not sure what I said to spark this rant. I was responding to an obvious inaccuracy from a previous poster.

My feelings on Pearl:

1. He was excellent at motivating a team for big games.
2. His system was very good when he had his players to run it.
3. His halfcourt offense was ugly at pretty much all times.
4. His halfcourt defense was pretty good once he realized he needed to coach it.
5. He was a very uneven recruiter, with a few great lands, and a lot of busts.
6. He tended to just recruit the best athletes, which put him in the following problems at times.
A. No true point guard (true in three of his six years. We were 2-3 in the tournament in those years). Look at how many truly ugly plays we ran last year on the last play of a half/game. Comes down to this.
B. An offense that can't run his system (true in three of his six years. The result was terrible in year four, and then gave rise to point #4 in year five, which gave us a nice tourney run)
C. No leaders on the court (true in 2.5 of his six years, all of which were extremely frustrating. A three month span in 2010 when Bobby Maze and Wayne Chism stepped up were the exception to the rule in his last three years, and what a wonderful exception they were).
7. He made a stupid mistake that gave us no choice but to fire him. Anyone crying to have him back is being counterproductive to the rebuilding job we have ahead of us.

5, 6A, and 6C are still biting us in the butt right now. I think Cuonzo Martin will absolutely improve on failings in #3 and #6, and I don't think it's being unfair to Pearl to say that. Whether CCM keeps #4 strong and whether he improves on #5 will dictate how long he stays here.

Is this really an unfair position from which I ought "grow up"?

I sat in the 2nd to top row when Vandy came in for GameDay last year. I've sat in the upper deck of Neyland 5 of my last 6 times there (got lowers for Vandy). I have season tickets in the upper deck for the Carolina Hurricanes. I just don't get people hating on it. I'd probably get lowers if I could afford them, but the gameday experience is fantastic from pretty much anywhere.

Just commenting on what all I've read....

Martin inherited 6 four star recruits: Woolridge, Golden, McCrae, Tatum, Hall, Maymon. Not 4.

If Pearl was still here then Hopson would be back for his Senior year. Before last year ended, Tobias said that he would come back if Pearl was retained. Doubt he would have stayed, strictly a business decision.

Ware just became eligible for Lousiville, so we would have not lost both recruits. Possible Jones would be here next year.

If CCM gets Stokes, then it would be a great get for him and I see it as the only possibility of him being here in 3 years after seeing the other recruits that he has got. He will have to get better players than what he has gotten so far. Maybe getting Stokes will help bring in better recruits.

Pearl would not have the same team that we have now. Add Hopson, Ware, and I'm sure he would have found another PG in the spring. He always did....Ramar, Maze, Goins. Regardless, if he was here, we would have more than 3 wins.

We will all have to wait 2.5 years to watch Pearl coach again, unfortunately it will not be at UT.

Stokes was a lock under Pearl before all the turmoil. CCM gettng him will be big, but under Pearl I think he would have all ready be signed (again before the turmoil).

If we kept Pearl, in 3 years we would possibly have Ware, Jones and a bunch of 2 and low 3 star recuits. More than likely the bottom of the SEC.

Yeah Pearl didnt lose to bottom feeders. Oakland and College of Chaleston were NCAA tourney teams. Pearl wouldnt have lost to Austin Peay or someone would have PUKED in a bucket like that audio that got him on PTI when he first got here.

lulz. Do you remember how horrendously bad Charlotte was last year? They're in the discussion with Austin Peay.

CoC wasn't an NCAAT team last year, and chances are both of those will be this year. We actually looked better against those two this year than we did last year.

The AP loss was inexcusable, but I'd say it's roughly equivalent to that clownshow we watched in Charlotte last year in terms of talent deficit.

Charlotte would have walked the dog on Austin Peay. And since you group those together One was in our house and the other was in their back door.

Ware, Louisville's Chris crawford comes to mind
