I would rather be banned from NCAA tourney

Wiggins was the best player on the floor, but from top to bottom, TN has more talent than CoC. You flip flop the two teams and I think Cremins still wins. It wasn't the players that lost us the CoC game.

Of our starters - I would've only taken McRae and Maymon. Little Harangody made our bigs look pathetic and their PG abused us in the second half.

I don't understand why everyone is comparing last years team to this. Last years kids was facing demons that we we will never understand. Knowing everyday that your coach will eventually be canned. You could see it take it's toll more and more each game they played. Last year's team was not bad, just mentally not there. This year's team is just plain bad and seems to be getting worse.

Okay, here's a fair point. And I'll give a fair response. Take a team that was mentally not there, take all their best players away, and take their mentally strongest players away. Do you expect them to perform better? How long does it take to rebuild both the talent and the psyche and get them back to a winning level?

What lost the game was mental toughness. You made a point earlier about last year's team going through hell every day. Some of those guys are still here. Then we have a whole bunch of freshmen who have never done this before. Why does anyone expect that any coach can just flip a switch and make them mentally tough? If you gave Cremins two years with them, yeah, they'd have won. But you can say the same thing about Cuonzo. You just can't expect overnight change.

Would it help if he took off his shirt, threw a chair, cussed the officials and squirted himself with Jiffy Lube?
Keyword : executed.

Wow, someone had to much caffeine. I don't remember any UT coach ever doing those things. BTW, thanks for the keyword.

You put an orange tie on Cremins and that would have been the difference in the game. He made adjustments, and CCM didn't counter. Seems like a pattern to me.

Still waiting for you to show me a success play coming out of a time out in a close game.

Incipient u r right....I was watching the Louisville and Memphis game yday and thought the commentators said Crawford had committed to tn....but they must of been talking about ware

I would rather be banned from the NCAA tourney for a year, be on probation for 5 years and lose scholarships and keep bruce pearl, rather than be a witness to our formerly strong program dieing before our eyes.

We have no excitement in the games, no passion, no intensity. Were not getting any recruits, TBA is quiet, the student section is a joke, and were probably not gonna make the tourney anyway. Do you have any serious interest in the team? Do you remember how CBP endeared us? He bought Pizzas for the students, played an exciting brand of ball that got us to come see what the fuss was, hovered around campus high fiving students and teachers. He bled orange. We werent a middle of the conference team anymore. We beat teams like Texas, Florida, Kansas, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Memphis, Kentucky and other power house schools. We were a top 25 team consistently and top 10 on a number of occassions. Never once missing the NCAA tourney.

All im saying is, I wish MH would have waited a couple of weeks and stand by the guy that made him his money. We should have taken the punishment from the NCAA, and went down swinging, playing like heck and be ready for when the NCAA tourney let us back. And I know many of you agreed with MH saying Bruce had to go, and you guys are (at least so far) Wrong. Without bruce, will we be a NCAA tourney team this year? Probably not. Next year? Borderline? Maybe?

I know you guys have friends that are UK, Florida, Vandy, and Bama fans. Ask them, does CCM scare you? With him at the helm, does tennessee make you nervous when you see them on the schedule? They will all say a resounding NO.

We gained nothing by letting Pearl go. We only lost everything.

So I ask you this, with the results you see now from the current team/staff. Would you have kept pearl if the NCAA banned the Vols for 2 years and probation for 4 years with 2 scholarship removed for 2 years?

Yes, because it would have kept the program alive and competitive.

Instead, after 3 years Martin doesn't work out and is terminated and Pearl rehired?
His show cause ends August 2014.
though most schools wont hire a coach after a show cause penalty.
I think Pearl takes an assistant coaching job in the NBA similar to Kelvin Sampson.

Man I don't know how long it will take. I wasn't old enough to remember the good teams we had in the late 70's. I started watching UT basketball in the Houston era, so I've only seen UT success for a short time in the Pearl era and watched a lot of bad basketball before that. But, I firmly believe if you want to win "consistently" then you have to be able to recruit with the big boys. I don't think CCM is able to keep up with them. I hope that he gets Stokes and the ball keeps rolling. Only time will tell, but to get to a "winning level", history is not on our side for that.

OMG...how many times do I have to read the same thing over and over again....

I guess you just don't t want to accept facts. As long as you continue to kiss Pearl's butt. He is gone and not coming back. Support Tennessee current coach and feel better about the team and yourself.

So you are a Cremins fan rather than basketball fan. Cremins is so old he would have trouble walking up and down the stairs at TBLA. I would rather go back to Buzz than have the old Ga. Tech failure.

Come on....I think ppl including myself need to come to terms that bp is not coming back and need to move on but U can't disrespect what he has done for this program the last six years, even if it is the team we are left with now I still wouldn't have traded the last six years bc u know what if it was for pearl the last six years would of been full of teams like this year if not worse

That goes to ppl saying how bp lost to coc and oakland last year too....dont forget he had twenty win season for six years beat number one team twice.....was ranked number first time ever....two sweet sixteen and an elite eight where we narrowly missed final four

I agree with most of what you just said. But keep in mind that college basketball recruiting starts even before college football recruiting. You get in on these guys your freshman year. If the '13 and '14 recruiting classes look as bad as the '11 and '12 classes (provided the '12 class doesn't include Stokes), I don't imagine Martin will exactly retire here. But right now there's just not a lot of data. Am I worried? Yeah. But he did recruit on a high level as a Purdue assistant, so it's not like there's nothing to suggest he can do it. I'm willing to give him some time before I call him a failure.

However, I will take a little issue with the history bit. When you have facilities and money, you control your own destiny in a lot of ways.

I am sick and tired of people saying this. Cuonzo, based on talent going into the season, was left with alot more than Bruce Pearl was. Bruce was left with a team that won 14 games the year before and then made the tourney. He turned those guys into winners, not the other way around. Cuonzo, on the other hand, was left with four 4* recruits and lost to Austin Peay.

:good!::good!::good!:
