I bet that CCM would trade Pearl's inherited roster for his inherited roster in a heart beat. You actually proved my point..Pearl's inherited roster had heart and hustle that made for a great group to watch. They were that way REGARDLESS of the head coach.
Trying to inspire apparently lazy sreaky players much different task...Thanks
You have got to be kidding. You do know Pearl LIED to the NCAA is why we are in the position we are in now. Right. And looks like Pearl's recruits does not look too good. I guess that's why Stephen played alot.
Thats total bull****. We are in the position that we are in right now because we hired a coach who did not have a resume with any accomplishments in Div 1 basketball. If UT had spent the millions required to hire a top coach we would be competative.
There were plenty of people there for games the last 6 years. Not Martin's fault the fans decided not to support the team this year.
If you want to sit at home and watch on TV, that's fine and great, but don't come here talking about down attendance and black curtains.

It is people like this (the OP) that bring shame and a blatant ignorance for relevance to this board and to the fan base. I wish these people(all the Dooley and Cuonzo Haters) would just crawl back into their caves and jerk off to pics of Lane Kiffin.
"Let the man coach more than 25% of the games in his first season before we start calling for his head. Even if BP was here its not like we have world beaters on this team. There is a talent deficiency that will take time to recover from."
.......we would probably still have Harris and hopson bc the draft would of came and went when the ruling came out not to mention his other top recruits
......
UNI can knock Kansas out of the tournament but an entire roster of 4*'s can't beat 1-9 Austin Peay? Right.... blame the talent. Austin Peay is full of talent with amazing coaching.
Being undersized and lack talent is irrelevant when you can't even beat the worst of the smaller schools. No way is Tennessee fielding less talent than Austin Peay.
I don't think it unreasonable to look at the results to this point and say that Martin has been extremely disappointing this far.
One of best post in a long long time!!!!!! I was on me and wifes honeymoon in Orange Beach Alabama condo watching Tennessee dismantle Texas and thought man WOW!!! We have found the golden egg in Bruce Pearl. Jajuan Smith was raining long distance 3s and Texas was way behind and Daniel Gibson left game with concussion. The announcers were trying to rationalize the crazy events. I was yelling at the tv dude we were smoking the Horns way before dude got hurt. I even earlier respected Bruce when he sent the players to thank the fans in the stands in TBA for coming when they played ETSU. I agree with everything you said. When i found out that with a show cause a coach could still be employed but has things they cant do. I thought lets get keep the man and when his show cause runs out let him rebuild.
I don't understand why everyone is comparing last years team to this. Last years kids was facing demons that we we will never understand. Knowing everyday that your coach will eventually be canned. You could see it take it's toll more and more each game they played. Last year's team was not bad, just mentally not there. This year's team is just plain bad and seems to be getting worse.
CoC out played us, but didn't have more talent.
I'm so sick of hearing excuses for the Oakland, CoC, and AP loses. First non conference 4 game losing streak since the 1950's. We should never lose to those teams. Not last year or this year.
A lot of people believe that the NCAA that mountain of integrity blackmailed UT saying if they didn't fire Pearl that the penalties on both the football and basketball programs would be much, much worse. An UT that mountain of integrity folded like a cheap suit.
Come on....I think ppl including myself need to come to terms that bp is not coming back and need to move on but U can't disrespect what he has done for this program the last six years, even if it is the team we are left with now I still wouldn't have traded the last six years bc u know what if it was for pearl the last six years would of been full of teams like this year if not worse
That goes to ppl saying how bp lost to coc and oakland last year too....dont forget he had twenty win season for six years beat number one team twice.....was ranked number first time ever....two sweet sixteen and an elite eight where we narrowly missed final four
Again thats just bull****. If Martin comes in plays an excellent and exciting brand of ball and wins games the arena would sell out. It is the coaches job to sell out the games, that is why he was hired. It is so stupid to think that a coach that doesn't make money will be kept. If you think that talk to Jerry Green. He said it wasn't his job to sell hot dogs, he found out he was wrong.
If I were the AD and this team didn't show massive improvement by the end of the year, I would be looking for another coach.
I am sick and tired of people saying this. Cuonzo, based on talent going into the season, was left with alot more than Bruce Pearl was. Bruce was left with a team that won 14 games the year before and then made the tourney. He turned those guys into winners, not the other way around. Cuonzo, on the other hand, was left with four 4* recruits and lost to Austin Peay.
Pearl couldn't even win with the team we have now, and he had two HS AA.
Didn't think I'd have to repeat it but I guess I will.....
Beat number one twice
Ranked number 1 first time ever
Ranked each of his six years
NCAA tourney each of his six years
20+ each of his six years
2 sweet sixteeens
Elite 8 narrowly miss final four
That's what our precious pearl did for us and u should thank him for that even if u want to blame the mess were in right now bc if it wasn't for pearl we wouldn't had what we had in the last six years, instead we would of had a team like the one we have now if not worse in the past six yrs
I would rather be banned from the NCAA tourney for a year, be on probation for 5 years and lose scholarships and keep bruce pearl, rather than be a witness to our formerly strong program dieing before our eyes.
We have no excitement in the games, no passion, no intensity. Were not getting any recruits, TBA is quiet, the student section is a joke, and were probably not gonna make the tourney anyway. Do you have any serious interest in the team? Do you remember how CBP endeared us? He bought Pizzas for the students, played an exciting brand of ball that got us to come see what the fuss was, hovered around campus high fiving students and teachers. He bled orange. We werent a middle of the conference team anymore. We beat teams like Texas, Florida, Kansas, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Memphis, Kentucky and other power house schools. We were a top 25 team consistently and top 10 on a number of occassions. Never once missing the NCAA tourney.
All im saying is, I wish MH would have waited a couple of weeks and stand by the guy that made him his money. We should have taken the punishment from the NCAA, and went down swinging, playing like heck and be ready for when the NCAA tourney let us back. And I know many of you agreed with MH saying Bruce had to go, and you guys are (at least so far) Wrong. Without bruce, will we be a NCAA tourney team this year? Probably not. Next year? Borderline? Maybe?
I know you guys have friends that are UK, Florida, Vandy, and Bama fans. Ask them, does CCM scare you? With him at the helm, does tennessee make you nervous when you see them on the schedule? They will all say a resounding NO.
We gained nothing by letting Pearl go. We only lost everything.
So I ask you this, with the results you see now from the current team/staff. Would you have kept pearl if the NCAA banned the Vols for 2 years and probation for 4 years with 2 scholarship removed for 2 years?
Yes, because it would have kept the program alive and competitive.
