If SMU gets booted from the playoffs,

And SMU has beat more teams than us without a blowout loss….so do they deserve to be ranked ahead of us? Wins(and the quality thereof) matter, it’s not just about losses
SMU won’t be ranked ahead of us. They now have the same amount of losses and haven’t been blown out.

Bama got curb stomped by 3 TDS just a few weeks ago. Oklahoma was on their 6th, 7th, and 8th WRs. Let’s stop acting like that didn’t happen.

SMU should be in.
Somehow this keeps getting forgotten or pushed out of the narrative. Oklahoma is not a team that you lose to by multiple scores and don’t even score a touchdown against . When Bama is good, they’ve been very good, but when they’re off, they’re really, really bad. That to me levels off at a decent, good team, but fatally flawed.

Does anyone honestly think SMU is better than Bama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina ?
Don’t care. The committee shouldn’t have ranked them as high as they are if they’re gonna say oh well we’re going to put this 3 lost lower rank team in over you because you were good enough to play in a conference championship but lost by a 56 yrd FG.

If you’re going to rank these weaker teams high then don’t punish them.

The whole problem with the CFP is all conferences aren’t equal yet they’re being ranked as if they are.
Until cross conference play is required this will continue to happen and auto bids getting a bye needs to go away. Your rank determines if you get a bye.

You guys blinded by Alabama hate are missing the whole point. Right now it isn't about comparing resumes but whether the bureaucrats in charge of this business venture ... er ... playoff can stomach another non-brand to add to the three already in the field (ASU, Clemson, Boise).

This is about creating a show that will attract the largest number of casual viewers possible, because they are who generate big rating numbers. What is the more compelling matchup for the casual sports fan - Alabama-Notre Dame or SMU-Notre Dame? They want brands that will generate interest, and SMU might as well be Podunk U. We're going to watch regardless, but CFB 'fanatics' like us won't make the multi-billion dollar investment in this charade worth the price for the networks.

That is the discussion going on, and how to rationalize making that call without killing the golden goose of conference championship games. Putting SMU in would be a bold statement that it is not all about money, and I don't think these clowns have the stones to go there. We shall see.

People are gonna watch these games no matter who is in. I’d even be willing to bet there will be a huge boycott of views if Bama weasels their way in. You can’t go off the past, you have to go off of this year. There were alot of unhappy people last week all over the country about Bama and Bama getting in for the final bracket would add much more fuel to that fire. Nobody cared about Bama, they cared about Saban and he’s not roaming those sidelines anymore.

There is a lot of opinion on this board blinded by Alabama hate. I also don't think there's any way the committee puts them in over SMU. Absolutely zero.

Get out of the football hotbeds of the Southeast and look nationally, and no one aside from CFB fanatics like us will give a rat's ass about Alabama other than deciding to tune in to a Bama-ND matchup where they would yawn and turn the channel if it was SMU-ND. It's about brands, and Alabama is maybe the biggest brand in the sport aside from Notre Dame.

We tend to believe that everyone is as obsessed with this stuff as we are, but as someone who lives in the northeast, trust me, CFB is waaaaaaay down the list of sports priorities. The powers that be are concerned with getting the big TV markets interested, and that means brand names and compelling matchups.

This is a multi-billion dollar venture, not some little local tournament - they need to generate massive interest to justify the huge investment by networks in this thing. Take off your Hate Bama shades and see the reality here. An incredible amount is riding on this being commercially successful, and they are already behind the 8-ball with ASU, Clemson, and Boise St.

Stop ranking lower quality conferences then.
Football isn’t like basketball where the smaller schools can compete with the bigger schools.

My guess in the next 10 years this CFP will be a thing of the past as the SEC and B1G take the better teams from other conference and go off and do their own thing.

People are also ignoring that if it's solely about TV ratings, the DFW market (where SMU is) is 10x larger than the state of Alabama.

I'd say the massive Dallas/Fort Worth media market cares more about seeing SMU in than Alabama. Prepare for Alabama fans to complain about media bias with the committee after they're left out.

Clemson or SMU wouldn't stand a chance against S.carolina,Ole Miss or Bama. Isn't the.playoffs supposed to be played by the best teams?

There is a lot of opinion on this board blinded by Alabama hate. I also don't think there's any way the committee puts them in over SMU. Absolutely zero.

They desperately wanted SMU to win last night to avoid this, but there is a very good chance they stick with Alabama. Damn, people, it isn't about resumes at this point! I think Alabama is better than SMU, but it would at least restore a shred of faith in this f***ked up system if they go with SMU over Alabama and add to the non-brands already in the field.

I have no faith in a system that is about creating a compelling show that will attract casual viewers, who are the people that sports marketers always target. The casual viewer might tune in to Bama-ND, but he might not for SMU-ND. Not grasping that reality is sticking your head in the sand.

I wish it was about identifying the 12 best teams and playing for a championship, but the "committee" has made it crystal clear that business is the first and only priority. Keeping SMU in would go against that, which is the only reason I don't think they'll have the guts to do it.

Totally agree. The most comical national media takes are those thinking this is some kind of March Madness where you'll see a Cinderella run. Apples and oranges. In CBB, a hot shooter or a team with a difficult scheme to play against can overcome better talent in one game, but in CFB talent and depth win out 95% of the time.

I would honestly prefer it if the SEC played a 10-game conference schedule and then had their own four-team playoff and crowned a champion. I don't need to see any of the rest of CFB, to be honest.
