If There Is Indeed Mutual Interest Between Frank and UT...

You're just changing the subject, Eric. We were talking about having time to put a staff together. You have gone back to the "Frank can't recruit" argument which is beyond absurd.

Not to mention that Frank could probably actually scout talent as well. You know, like PG talent

Sure, they could, but your trying to use two really successful coaches to compare to a coach who is a career .483 coach, and never made it past the second round of the playoffs. Bad comparison once again.

I wasn't making a comparison. I was asking you a question. You said that a coach couldn't claim ties to a professional sports league without: a) coaching in said league and b) developing college players for that league. I was simply asking if you truly feel this way, or if you had made a statement you hadn't fully thought through.

So, Doc Rivers gives his assistants time to speak with other NBA organizations, but Frank won't have time to speak with other coaches?

Again, it's different than just interviewing for a job. It would be like working for a company, then going to interview for another, accepting the job and trying to build the other companies sales and the same time your trying to build your current employers sales. It's a conflict of interest at some point, and it's not the interview with the other company that becomes the conflict of interest. It's when you start to work for that other company at the same time, where it becomes a problem.

I'm laughing at the absurdity of the idea Lawrence Frank would have to undertake some lengthy interview process to assemble a staff. It would take five phone calls, six tops.

Now, you're just showing that you're an out and out liar. I have never said anything remotely resembling that.

Yeah right....also arent you the one that said there is no difference in an outright SEC championship and a shared title.

Dont you have like a Pembroke post report or something to assemble on this topic?

Give me some examples then or coaches who had NO previous HC experience in the college ranks, who have went from the NBA ranks directly to college. This is all a discussion for me. I'm just trying to see where everyone is on all this. Hopefully no one takes it personally.

Frank started as a student manager for Bob Knight at Indiana and worked his way up the college ranks.

For you to act like Frank doesn't have loads of college experience is not accurate.

So, if this dream scenario happens, what do you tell the kids who want to meet the new HC?? They have to wait for possibly two months or so, till he gets here?? I see a big problem with that, especially trying to keep Jones and Ware in the fold.

Oh, wow, I'd forgotten about this. I'm not even being facetious. I hadn't ever dreamed of having a coach who could scout and recruit a point guard. It's been such a foreign concept recently.

Hmm....yes I do read (evidently at a higher level than you do because that article stated that Doc wouldnt stand in his way of getting another job however it never said anything about taking the focus off of the job at hand which was to win a World Championship. If you think that the Celtics are going to let an integral part of their coaching staff take another job, then hire a staff, make recruiting contacts, fly in for Press conferences, during the middle of a playoff you are smoking crack...

LOL! I said he could establish a staff who can recruit. Why couldn't he make phone calls or do visits on his days off? It's dumb for you to think that coaching a team in the playoffs is going to consume every single waking minute. That's ridiculous. Frank could accept the UT job and still do many things while he's at Boston.

Tell them they'll play for an NBA coach.

Tell them he's coaching Rondo, Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. He'll be here after he loses to the Bulls in the conference finals.

You have to tell them the heartbreaking news that he's busy coaching 3 NBA Hall of Famers to the NBA Title. I know that will be crushing news to them and would be such a detriment to recruiting.

Funny, because in either college or pros, when you are on salary, it is every waking minute. Sure, they try to give you time off, but if they need you to do something, everything else better be to the way side, save a family emergency or something.

you see it as a problem that two kids with NBA aspirations will be upset that TCHBCATUTK is finishing out the season trying to help the Boston Celtics win an NBA Title?

Byrd is a good coach, but IMO people are glorifying the guy as the best hire simply because of his ties to UT. How did hiring Sidney Lowe work out for NC State?

"He's busy coaching in the NBA playoffs" is really going to turn off the high school kids that are busy watching them.

Your right....coaches in the NBA have little work to do....they just throw a ball out on the court and drink coffee. Really?? are you wanting Frank so bad that you have lost touch with reality?

Except for be here assembling staff...preparing for next year, etc... You do realize this isnt a part time job?

We have two kids right now that need to spend time with their new HC, before they make a decision on whether or not to use their "Get out" clause in their LOI. If that doesn't happen in the next few weeks, our roster is going to suck something fierce without them. Losing Jones and Ware would set us back, and with the looming 'AA sanctions, we can't afford too many setbacks.

As it should be. He's an assistant for the Boston Celtics and they deserve all of his attention, while he's working. But I'm willing to bet that Frank could probably recruit better from his cell phone 3,000 feet up in a plane than Byrd could with in home visits standing face to face. Still, his staff could recruit until the playoffs are over.
