So, draw it out in crayon since I don't get it.
He did that his sophomore year.
John Lynch was good at stopping the run. Being a hard hitter doesn't necessarily mean you can play the run, it just means you can level a guy. Berry proved he was a guy you could rely on to take one side of the field away in the run game. He'd already proven his worth in pass defense. Now he's the total package. Ed Reed outfielder if needed. John Lynch run-stuffer if needed. Showing off another dimension of his game didn't hurt his draft stock.
Of course it didn't hurt, but doing it all the time took away a dimension of our defense in the process. Again, Monte didn't reinvent Berry into this run-stuffing Safety. He was already good at that, it was just his focus last year.
Not really, no. He did it some, but not nearly as often. A big part of that was that it wasn't needed as often, but still.

I can tell you he was around or near the LOS almost just as much his sophomore year as his junior year. It was just more of a focus last year. Just think people make more out of it than it really is, and I don't think it changed his draft stock that much. He will be a rover in the NFL.

Because he played it in a lot of situational plays. He didn't spend the majority of the time there that year, like he did last year. More of a conviction of how bad our LB core sucked last year, IMO.
