I'll Want to Fire the Entire Coaching Staff if We...

...ever recruit another QB that doesn't run at least as well as Hooker.

A flat-footed QB gives the D an extra defender.

Simple math.
The entire staff for a bad QB recruit? Lol That’s not math. That’s illogical.

I'll talk with the athletic department and make sure they have recruits come to your tryouts.

What a stupid statement by OP.

WiseOldVol, a QB is only as effective as the surrounding team. Even Dobbs, who I consider one of the better running QBs had the privilege of WRs that knew how to block down field when he was forced out of the pocket. Remove that, and I do believe Dobbs would have found himself flattened more often he was. Tee Martin wasn't as good a passer as Peyton, but his OL all but gave him a year and day to find a receiver. And yes, he could run if he had to, but often he didn't because of that OL. The result, he did what Peyton didn't, beat Florida and got us all the way to a national championship. It helped enormously as well that we had an all-everything defense. It's a team sport, Wise one, a team sport. Much as I dislike the man, William Belichick understood this better than anybody, thus his demand of his players, "Just do your job."

I'm not real sure their are any "flat-footed" elite QBs out there anymore.
The high majority of elite QBs can move around enough to not be a statue.

Not really sure the topic is applicable.

I don't think you'll have to worry about that any time soon. A mobile qb is a staple in Heupels offense. It would be great if the university would stop knee capping him and his recruiting and make this NCAA thing go the hell away. We've fired or replaced everyone. We've lost a third of the roster and don't even have a full one. We've lost the 22 recruiting class. We've spent yet another fortune on attys doing the investigation. I'd present all this to the NCAA and tell them that's penalty enough and we're moving on. If they want to pursue it, we'll have our lawyers handle it right after we see the penalties vs UNC, LSU among other blue bloods.

The way things are going, the guys these days that are good runners are being trained to be better, accurate passers. Why would you NOT want a guys that could run? And Peyton, Ainge and Clausen had great Offensive lines...so that counterpoint is invalid.

Well, good for you.

Bailey is leaving. However, had Bailey clearly been the best ball distributor and operator of the O... then he could have been GREATLY successful in this O.

There are different ways for QB's to be effective. Mobility definitely helps. Brice Young doesn't run often. His "greatness" is solely based on his arm talent and ball distribution.

if you watched the Cardinals and Packers last night, you see where the pro game is headed and the Cardinals are leading the way. They are running a good college offense! The time for the "PRO" drop back passer is coming to an end! Although the Cardinals lost on a last second mistake, they are the team to be watching as they take their place at the top of the heap! The new QB normal will be if you can't run you can't play!

Will Rogers at MSU is a pocket QB. He is lighting it up in his sophomore year and I won't be surprised when he is mentioned in the Heisman race over the next couple of seasons.

What's up with these threads that are nothing more then useless rants?

It's a good thing OP isn't an AD somewhere. The need for a mobile QB is really designated by your offensive scheme and who you recruit at OL. If you have big and talented OL and use TE's a lot, like say most Big 10 schools, you don't need a Hendon Hooker type QB. You want a drop back passer with good awareness and an accurate arm and quick release. If you have a poor, small OL or your offense is a read option or some other that is predicated on having a mobile QB then that is what you recruit.

I guess my point is, if your staff's offensive scheme will get them fired, why did OP hire them in the first place?

My preferences in a QB are as follows.
1. A good quick mind
2. An accurate arm
3. Leadership ability and command of the offense.
4. Ability to move in the pocket
5. Running ability.

I might also add that if you have a QB that runs all the time, then you better have a good backup. I always plan on a QB being out of the game for 20% of plays in an average year just for injures. That adds up to 2+ games per year missed. You better have an experienced backup or you will be disappointed.
