Butch Jones is the real deal! This guy lives, breath's, eats football! If one didn't know better, one would think he has been a Vol since his birth. This guy has bought in like no one I have ever seen! His attitude is contagious!

I was a little skeptical at first, but the more I see the better I feel. As a matter of fact this is the best I have felt about UT Football in a very long time.

This just feels different and I mean that in a good way.

I'm cautiously optimistic on Butch....this is a results oriented type of business. I don't care what conference or type of coach you are...fans are only going to be satisfied with wins. Rebuilding is ok to a certain extent but you still have to have the progress wins...the ones Dooley didn't deliver. Jones is no different than he was...but I think he's capable and shown a history so again...we'll see...

this guy is a motivator and unlike Doolittle he can actually call a game from the field. From what I have been reading on the recruiting boards he already has swayed commits away from other schools and has some studs comming for official visits. I really like this hire.

I think I will wait until after the first practice to induct him into the College Football HOF

No kidding...
Y'all read a lot more into the post than I did. Can you tell me what he said that prompted you to feel like he was giving a recommendation for the HOF? Cause I missed it. Thanks.

There are two main types of coaching styles. The I'm your buddy open door players coach (butch jones, Bruce pearl etc.) then there is the Saban all business style. Both work when done the correct way but when you are Dooley and try the Saban approach but suck it tends to bite you in the ass. I bought into jones at the first PC, I think he will breath new life into the kids.

Probably so, but you gotta take them with a grain of salt because if they really understood college football they would understand why Gruden might not have been the best choice.

I am starting to see that you can't necessarily know if a coach will be successful, until he is actually at that job.

For instance, I am sure that Florida fans didn't want Urban Crier, who was at Utah. He had not S.E.C. coaching experience. Can he recruit in the S.E.C.????

People in New England probably felt that Bella Cheat could not coach very well. I mean, he did do horribly at Cleveland, as a head coach. Based on his record at Cleveland, one would have never hired him to take over another NFL team, right?

The bottom line is that we will have to just wait and see.....about Jones....

Once bitten, twice shy. This reminds me of when Dooley was hired. I'll wait till I see how he recruits and the team performs before I make a decision. Nothing wrong with those that want to give him the benefit of the doubt. Nothing wrong with being a little skeptical either.

Never huddled up as a player with another player that was skeptical of anything. You hit the field believing in your coach and your system "wide open". No matter what the circumstances are.

Dooley vanished for over a month shortly after being hired. This is very different from Dooley.

Exactly. This is nothing like the Dooley hire. Now, it remains to be seen if he can actually deliver on the field. I, for one, hope so!

I am definitely no player and I'm guessing you're not either. I applaud your optimistic approach but please forgive me if I don't share it. If fans continually to blindly follow and accept poor performance the administration has no motivation to change. We are five years removed from fielding a competitive team. I will become interested in UT football when the U of T decides it will take it seriously.

But does he wear orange "britches"?
The answer to this makes or breaks him imo.

The perception from many UT fans was similar to what we're seeing with Coach Butch. What you might call blind allegiance. I was one of them. I will believe CBJ is the answer when I see it on the field.

Your gonna get flammed by alot of left over grudenites, but I agree with you. They'll be here in a few years swearing they loved him from the start, when only a few are really believing in him.

Nope...I am one of those "grudenites" of which you speak...when I initially heard the hire was Jones I was disappointed but was going to support him. In his first few weeks on the job he has impressed me some. I am still on the fence about whether he can win us championships...however, I will support him like I did Dooley and Kiffin. I will be thrilled if a few years down the road CBJ has won championships...and I will come on here and say I was skeptical but he won me over...I think you will find that's where most "grudenites" are...not sure why folks are so insecure that they need the "e-cred" of saying "first"...like "I KNEW he was going to be a success from the beginning." Well good for you....big deal.

Former Grudenite here and I'm not flaming anyone. Butch is our coach and like many I will support him until he makes it impossible to do so (see Dooley) but I hope it doesn't come to that. It's funny that some think if your an ex Grudenite it automatically means youre pissed off and sulking. There are some like that but most of them post on another site.
