Iowa Caucus

There is just no end to this discussion. RP is very naive on foreign policy, he believes we are to blame for the 9/11 attacks and believes we just stay within our borders and not go to war for anything and these radical muslims will love us and wants to be our friend.

I am done talking about RP, he has a small group of followers and most of them are dope smoking college kids who don't have a clue, make love not war hippies, moderates or democrats. Some of his followers will fall in line with the candidate and the others will simply sit at home, either way it's not a big deal.

Some of us are military retirees who have a clue about a thing or two...

So, because someone has never went to war or been in the military we can't have an opinion? I forgot you are the only one allowed here to speak on war issues. Thanks for the reminder.

You can; however, I find it ironic that you act as if those who are against war (pot smoking hippies who would rather make love than war, as if that is a deranged notion) know nothing of war and foreign policy.

What privileged insight do you have that those 'hippies' do not?

You don't think our foreign policy over the last 60 years has anything to do with 9/11? Talk about naive.

No, you are entitled to your opinion, just don't act surprised when someone with a different experience provides some perspective that contradicts your opinion.

For example, I spent some time overseas and part of my duties included sitting in very high level policy meetings. Suffice it to say I was shocked at how little our state department and national leaders actually understood about foreign policy. The biggest problem is they didn't realize how much they didn't know and made decisions based on their view that they knew everything and could pretty much do what ever they wanted. One sided conversations rarely work in the real world and their approach directly impacted the initial faulty execution of operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq and resulted in more lost Americans than was needed.

I appreciate someone who starts with the premise that maybe we don't have all the answers and might need to do things differently.

privileged insight? How about a difference of opinion?

No one should be for war everyone should be against it, but there is a time to go also. We have had this conversation many times and I know how you feel about Muslims. But they way I see it when you have millions of people who want to kill you for no reason at all except you don't believe in the same god and are willing to blow themselves up and take many with them I want to take the fight to them.

Good grief.

If the people willing to blow themselves up to harm us were in the millions we'd all be dead.

What did this conversation have to do with Muslims?

The way I see it is that the majority of the individuals in the countries we attack are ambivalent to both our presence and actions and the presence and actions of those who we are directly fighting; yet, it is these individuals who pay most dearly in war. They are both the 'collateral damage' and the 'bargaining chips'. It is an absurd and ridiculous waste of life and lifestyle.

I say we let those who want to fight us take the fight to us.

I also would like t take the time to ask how old you are and whether or not you are in the military yet? If not, do you feel good about having others fight in your stead for a cause you deem worth fighting for?

That's why the active duty military are huge supporters of Paul.

Funny how they lose the connection when he starts using reason.

Unfortunately he can get in trouble for speaking his political views in uniform, hope he just gets a letter of reprimand...

the only way those "millions" even have access to kill Americans is by using your advice of "taking the fight to them". If we weren't in Iraq/Afg how much access would those people have to Americans?

I had a very different opinion a few years ago. I've talked to enough of the Iraq vets to know what a cluster F the nation building became.

You cannot save people from themselves. It has to happen organically.

I will be 30 next month and no I have not. When one signs up for the military the know full well that there is a chance they will go to war, I appreciate their sacrifice and their families sacrifice to the full extent.

In a perfect world I wish none of them would have to go to war but sometimes its a necessity.

So, you can still enlist. What is stopping you?

You don't think it's in the millions?

I did a study once called "The Care and Feeding of a Suicide Bomber." It takes anywhere from 6-10 people to successfully train, house, hide, aim and launch one suicide bomber. For the most part a guy doesn't just wake up one day, fill a vest or his car with explosives and go blow himself up. Contrary to popular belief, most Muslims do not want to kill themselves.

I choose not to, I have a wife and a nice paying career. It's a personal decision, just like they made the personal to sign up. Not sure where it's your business or what this has to do with anything.
