Is Judaism a Race

I read the OP and the Nazis considered Jews a different race so Whoopi was wrong. It doesn't matter that they were wrong in their belief or not, the holocaust and persecution of the Jews by the Nazis was about race.
That’s pretty much it… I think I understand the point Whoopi was making, though I disagree with it. I do think it’s a little ridiculous that she got suspended though. She clearly wasn’t stating the opinion from an anti-Semitic angle.

I agree that suspending her was dumb. A better option would have been to make her read Mein Kampf and discuss that on air.

So the correct answer is "there is no box" to check for "Jewish Race".

The reason for this is because Judaism is a religion, not a race.

Ergo, your refusal to answer the first question, if I renounce Christianity and become Jewish, have I changed races?

The correct answer is "no".

The reason for this is because Judaism is a religion, not a race.

Likely because
1) being Jewish is not considered being a disadvantaged victim that you can use for political graft
2) Jews might be a tad sensitive about anything that would identify them as a race (that did not work out well the last couple of times) and so they pushed back on it probably to the point of calling it anti-semetic to do so. For them, its just a one step down the road to yellow arm bands. What does it mean to be genetically Jewish? - a handy article where the author is indeed getting uncomfortable that DNA confirms his Jewishness and how it does so - you should read it.

Also, clearly you dont hang around many Jews or you would know what happens when baby boy brings home his goy GF and the matzo balls hit the fan. They dont care whether the girl's family is practicing or not (well, some do), only if you are Jewish.

Is this part of the “Why”?

it is my hope that they are not interpreted in a way which appears to pitch the experiences of Jewish Holocaust victims against the suffering of black communities and their history of slavery.

If the Holocaust was based on a racist ideology and the Jews were targeted based on their race - then there is no other experience in human history that can compare. All else falls short.

That might be threatening to some?

So we agree being Jewish is more than a term that refers to religion? It also means ethnicity?

Six of one, half a dozen of another.

Per wiki...

"Jews or Jewish people are an ethnoreligious group and nation originating from the Israelites and Hebrews of historical Israel and Judah. Jewish ethnicity, nationhood, and religion are strongly interrelated, as Judaism is the ethnic religion of the Jewish people, although its observance varies from strict to none. Jews originated as an ethnic and religious group in the Middle East during the second..."

Lol you're trying to argue that ethnicity is term that is closer to religion than it is to race?

Troll on, brother. Troll on.

I'm familiar with the Armenian genocide and The Young Turks. I'm not familiar enough to know what caused it. Can you get to your point?
Maybe you should read up on both and let us know what conclusion you come to.

So, by this reasoning, if I can trace my DNA to Jesus Christ, then I am of the "Christian Race"... whether I practice Christianity as my religion, huh?

Where did I say that and how are you drawing that conclusion from it? Why are you having difficulty comprehending the fact that you can be born ethnically Jewish? You can also choose to be a member of the Jewish religion and not be ethnically Jewish. It is the only major religion that is also an ethnic group. If you trace your ancestry to Jesus then you would be ethnically Jewish because Jesus was ethnically Jewish and religiously Jewish. There are many people born ethnically Jewish who don't follow any religion. It isn't difficult to understand.

Can I say the Yazidis and Mandeans are an ethnic group and not only a religious group?

If you want to, why does that matter to you? Are you envious of the Jewish ethnic group? I think history would probably prove that they have been treated like horse crap for a majority of their existence so let them have their ethnicity.

Hmm... had to do so more research.

Interesting fact: Judaism is definitely NOT a major religion. Hard to believe, but it only has only around 15 million believers worldwide. In comparison, Christianity has roughly 2.4 billion.

Turns out the label used for Judaism, Shinto and other religions with specific geographical boundaries or origins is "ethno-religions".

So, I get the concept of being born "Jewish" as an ethnicity, but not as a religion. But ethnicity and race are different.
