Is Judaism a Race

Hmm... had to do so more research.

Interesting fact: Judaism is definitely NOT a major religion. Hard to believe, but it only has only around 15 million believers worldwide. In comparison, Christianity has roughly 2.4 billion.

Turns out the label used for Judaism, Shinto and other religions with specific geographical boundaries or origins is "ethno-religions".

So, I get the concept of being born "Jewish" as an ethnicity, but not as a religion. But ethnicity and race are different.

The term "major religion" doesn't just refer to the number of followers. It is considered a major religion because it is the foundation for Christianity and Islam which are the World's two largest religions. No one is born into a religion it is a choice, you cannot choose your ethnicity. You have some weird Jewish anger going on. It's kind of strange. They make up less than one tenth of one percent of the World's population.

Seems like you have a lot of recanting to do. For one you’d have to start with admitting you were wrong about Hitler.

Secondly you’d have to accept how dumb your question about a Christian race is.

Three you’d have to accept that the terms ethnicity and race, even if you seem them as separate are highly related far more so than your religious comparisons

What of it? What’s the point you continue trying to make?
Just asking questions. Why can't you just answer yes or no? You are getting way too uptight over someone asking you simple questions. Are you a leftist?

Why don't you tell him what point you are trying to get at? Sounds like you're just badgering.

You’ve named random religions and asking if they’re ethnic groups. Why? What does it have to do with this thread? Is there a point you’re attempting to make?

If not, troll elsewhere

If you want to, why does that matter to you? Are you envious of the Jewish ethnic group? I think history would probably prove that they have been treated like horse crap for a majority of their existence so let them have their ethnicity.
No one is envious of anyone. I'm asking questions and you and someone else are getting uptight over it. Are you not capable of acting like an adult and having a simple conversation?

A conversation isn't peppering someone with questions without telling them what for.

Unless you're a female then we understand.

Part of being adult like would be addressing the nature of your questions….

They are not just random religions. Maybe you should look into both and do a little bit more research.

From my understanding you have to be born into both of these religions. So why can't we consider them both their own unique ethnic group?

Or a toddler to be fair. I don’t want anyone mistaking this post to believe questioning is inherently feminine and assume their toddler is transgender

Obviously I'm having a discussion with people with limited knowledge regarding ethnic groups and history as well.

So Whoopi Goldberg is suspended for 2 weeks from her TV show for making the following comment:

“Let’s be truthful about it because the Holocaust isn’t about race. No. It’s not about race!”

Whoopi was then called out for defining the basis of the Holocaust as the Jewish "race".

ABC News president Kim Godwin announced on Tuesday, “Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” Godwin said.

Whoopi apologized.

In a note to staff, ABC News prez Kim Godwin says, "While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

Help me out here... how is Judaism a race? I'm the color (READ: RACE) that I am. Pretty confident I cannot at anytime change my race. Yet, at anytime I can convert to Judaism and become a "Jew". Right?!?

So, then, how is Whoopi wrong when she says the Holocaust is NOT based on race? Seems to me, Hitler hated people of the Jewish faith, hence the basis for the Holocaust. He hated them because of their religious beliefs, not the color of their skin (READ: RACE). Right?

Hmmm. So, I Google the question, "Is Judaism a race?".

Here are quotes from the articles:

First source: "Jews in the City":

"Religion, of course, is a belief system.

So where does Judaism fit into these categories?

Race, insofar as it exists at all, is a function of DNA. While there is a cluster of genes associated with being Jewish, non-Jewish people can possess those genes, and there are entire Jewish communities that don’t have them (presumably because these communities became isolated before those haplotype markers entered the DNA). Finally, a person can’t change his race but a person who isn’t Jewish can become Jewish. So it’s not looking good to define Judaism as a race.[1]

...So, if Judaism is not a race, nor an ethnicity, nor is it limited to religion, then what is it?"

Next source: "The AISH Rabbi Responds":

"To categorize Judaism "only" as a religion is a misunderstanding. The Jewish people are a nation, who share a common land (Israel), a common religion (Judaism) and a common history (dating back to Abraham).

What is amazing is how the Jews have maintained their distinct national identity having been scattered to the four corners of the globe. This achievement was possible only because of our adherence to the Torah, the "constitution" of the Jewish people. The Torah lays out the scope of personal rights and obligations, as well as laws covering lifecycle, business practice, medical ethics, parenting, married life, etc. Observance of the Torah was thus the thread which kept the Jewish people alive, and thriving, in every place and time.

Judaism cannot be classified as a race, because anyone can become a Jew by converting. The convert is considered a Jew in every regard, and his relationship with God is the same level as that of every other Jew. Come to Israel and you will find black Jews, oriental Jews, Indian Jews, etc."

Mkay. I give up.

Not trying to be "racist" here. I could care less what other people's religious beliefs are as long as they don't impede on my life.

So how is Whoopi wrong? How is this not cancel culture at its worst?

Given that I am Christian, is it now politically correct to refer to me as belonging to the "Christian race"?

Taking this one step further, if one were to argue that Judaism is a race but Christianity isn't, then ironically how is this not - in fact - racist?

Yes, it is race unless you are hell bent on narrowly defining race.

Sure. Maybe I shouldn’t do more research because what does that change about my argument?

Idk enough about those religions to have an opinion on them being a separate ethnic group nor do I really care.

How does it relate back to anything I’m saying?

He’s now finally accepting it’s an “ethnicity” without accepting that makes him wrong about Hitler targeting them only as a “religion” and now attempting to pretend the term “ethnicity” is closer to the term “religion” than it is to the term “race”

You haven't been having a discussion, you have been asking questions that don't have anything to do with the subject.

The AISH Rabbi Responds:

"Judaism cannot be classified as a race, because anyone can become a Jew by converting. The convert is considered a Jew in every regard, and his relationship with God is the same level as that of every other Jew. Come to Israel and you will find black Jews, oriental Jews, Indian Jews, etc."

And here's another Jewish author specifically responding to Whoopi's "Race" confusion:

"It’s not quite a religion, because one can be Jewish regardless of observance or specific belief. (Einstein, for example, was proudly Jewish but not religiously observant.) But it’s also not quite a race, because people can convert in! It’s not merely a culture or an ethnicity, because that leaves out all the religious components. And it’s not simply a nationality, because although Jews do have a homeland and many identify as part of a nation, others do not."

Even from a legal perspective:

Judge rules that Judaism is not a race but Jewish people can be targeted for racism. Here's why that matters.

Do you ever intend on making a point that’s related to the thread?
So let me get this correct. You believe someone who practices Judaism whether it be Reform, Orthodox, Conservative, Modern Orthodox, Hasidic are all part of the same ethnic group? Yes or no.

Getting uptight? Negative, I don't know why you think I would be but it is an odd hill to die on that is the extent of my concern
