Is Pope Francis the false prophet?

Was in the Vatican this summer. It creeped me out more so than being in awe of it. The Vatican plays all sides from being in bed with banking families (Medici) early on to the Mafia. Owning billions in real estate around the world, unable to ever be audited and a decades long, if not centuries, cover up of child sex abuse. No offense to our devout Catholics on the board, but to me they are prodigious in using Christianity, all their pomp and circumstance as a front for some of their most despicable and immoral ventures.

I’ve been to the Vatican as well. Also found it kind of creepy.

Not believing in any prophet superstitions of any kind makes this whole question incredibly easy and this thread incredibly entertaining at the same time.

I read something recently where this pope is trying to change the Lords Prayer? The catholic version anyway?

I have no issue with catholic people here or elsewhere, but to me Catholicism is right next to Mormonism as far as straying from actual Christianity and what is in the Bible.
Idol worship (Mary as well as supposed saints) praying to supposed saints, confessing their sins to a man in order to supposedly be forgiven (confession), the entire concept of purgatory...absolutely NONE of that is in the Bible. NONE OF IT. That is all purely catholic nonsense that was never even mentioned in scripture and in some cases is forbidden (idol worship) or directly proved a lie by the Bible (purgatory..the Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord...no steps in between. Period.) I dont waste any energy arguing with catholics or publicly challenging their doctrine/dogma, but I absolutely HATE that millions of people look at the catholic church and some completely unnecessary pope and take that as an example of Christs teachings. It simply is not...no more than the book of mormon or any cult that tries to add their own crap to what the Bible teaches. All that is necessary to be a Christian is to believe and seek a relationship with Christ. That's it. Could be accomplished very successfully on a deserted island with none of the trappings of the catholic church. I dont think that this pope is THE false prophet..yet anyway...but he is A false prophet and is no closer to God than that lady who got her hand smacked. They have both been deceived into believing that a person needs anything more than FAITH to receive salvation and a relationship with Christ. Go Vols

Not sure if you've actually read the Gospels, but Protestant theologians changed the prayer as it was written. The end part... "For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, Forever and ever" is not a part of Jesus' prayer.

No need to engage. The absolute hatred of Catholicism is only surpassed by the hatred of the Left on this board.

The false prophet, according to Christian mythology, will be liked by people on all sides. He will bring peace to the Middle East and allow Israel to restore the Temple.

If the Left and Right here actually agree on and approve of a political individual and laud his or her work, then you've possibly got someone to look out for.

It's yet another point taken from the 1920s KKK Platform. Hate blacks, Jews, foreigners, liberals, socialists, organized labor and Catholics. Funny how Klan hate is now mainstream Red State beliefs.
In order for those types of beliefs to germinate and flourish, you know the ground must be fertilized with some big time sh!t.

this Pope is a blip on the radar and outside the Catholic Church nobody gives a flip what he thinks.

By all Biblical accounts, the anti christ will not be a blip and he will lead many down the wrong path....not just one sect of religion.

Why don't you enlighten us about those Biblical accounts of the Anti-Christ - if you can?

I already formed opinions and did the research. Revelation predicted the fall of the Roman Empire and is a thinly disguised copy of the the Book of Daniel, which predicted the fall of Babylon. After the Roman Empire fell, no one had any idea who the anti-Christ would be. After the Reformation, Protestants thought the Pope was the anti-Christ, although most of today's Protestants no longer believe that. I am confident that a gentile Pope would not be recognized by Jews as their Messiah.

The OP asked the question as to whether the pope is "*the* false prophet", which contextualizes the answer in a futurist interpretation of end times prophecy. So, that's the most appropriate context by which to answer, and the most appropriate context by which to answer your request for biblical reference...

Scripture says that the antichrist will raise himself up to be worshiped, against God/Christ and all other "supposed" gods, so the thought is that he will create a new religion, religion with himself as the head, claiming to be god. This new religion will be supernatural, in that it is ratified by supernatural signs, and the antichrist professed himself to be god. Yet, it will operate on materialism, from the perspective that it will operate on a trade/financial/consumerist/hedonistic ethic.

Some references to him are listed below, specifically per his adoration by the people, which you seemed to take issue with, as well as the those allusions to his coming by Jesus, who actually talked quite a bit about end times and His second coming.

Note that Paul described his promotion to worship and opposition to other historical known worship systems. Revelation goes further in detail.

Rev 13:1 And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea. He had 10 horns and seven heads. On his horns were 10 diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. 2 The beast I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like a bear’s, and his mouth was like a lion’s mouth. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 One of his heads appeared to be fatally wounded, but his fatal wound was healed. The whole earth was amazed and followed the beast. 4 They worshiped the dragon because he gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to wage war against him?”

Jesus-- Matt 24:15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house, 18 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 19 And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. 23 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. 26 So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

2 Thes 2:1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers,[a] 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
