Jalen Hurd potential

How close are you to Hurd and his situation? The guy you responded to claims to live close by and to have attended his games for 3 years. That's more significant than watching highlight videos... which admittedly is all I have done.

As far as #4 is concerned... sorry, if true, there's no excuse for not supporting your teammates.

You're not going to start quoting poster sentences and responding with two paragraphs...are you?

Don't start arguments over the littlest things. It's nonsense. I know what I am talking about, I been through all of this stuff. Some guys run faster in the game then what they r timed, some guys don't run as fast as they r clocked. I was clocked a 4.6 at the combine, on the field I wasn't going to get caught period. So I ran faster in game. What I am saying is that he is fast.i have seen him play in person. On the field he doesn't run faster than cordarelle patterson. But he is a homerun back when he gets through the second tier. When he played ensworth, a private school, I could judge his talent better. He had a pretty decent game but didn't out run every person on the field....He is a freak of an athlete and will be a team changer if he runs with leverage. He runs high right now. But coaching will fix that. Out of everything I said y on earth would we try to make something negative about what I said.

Ok. I am not knocking his speed. What I am explaining is that you do specific training for the 40 yard dash. You don't just get up and run in the 4.3's. He is a fast kid. His real time speed is a 4.5 4.55 range which is really good still. I'm not arguing his electronic time, I am giving him credit: the whole post was positive.

Actually you are knocking his speed. You're saying he's not as fast as we believe him to be based on how he's been timed and then arbitrarily assigning what you believe his actual speed is. You're basically saying he doesn't have elite speed, 4.37, and that he actually has average speed, 4.55. That's how we're all evidently reading it on here.

You also started by blaming it on the bad high school timing methods until some one pointed out that he was actually laser timed at the SPARQ combine.

We all know that all kids train specifically to run the best 40 time they can. What's your point? When Jalen trains, he runs faster than most all of the other kids who train to run the 40.....

He's been laser timed at a 4.37

Yes. And regardless of anything else... he's fast.

The only two questions I have are: 1) has/will his shoulder heal and 2) what position will he play in college.

JUST based on video, the athlete he reminds me most of (who I did watch in person) is Carl Pickens.

I know it offends people here to suggest he won't be a RB (and maybe he will) but why should it if he can become an elite WR or S like Pickens?

In fact I said he is a homerun back because he gains speed as he goes.

You cannot run a 4.37 laser timed 40 without getting off the blocks quick and getting to top speed quick. Unless that time was some kind of anomaly or equipment malfunction... Hurd has elite speed.

Because, after several years of not signing any elite running backs which has led to a very pedestrian stable of running backs, we finally signed one of the best, most dynamic RBs in the country to fill a huge need.

Add to that the fact that the only other rb we have signed, who is more an all-purpose back and will more than likely not be ready in the fall, a lot of us on here are incredulous as to why everybody seems to want him to or project him to play a different position than the one that he is GREAT at and the one position where we desperately need him?

We have TEs in Helm and Wolff, we have WRs in Pearson and Malone, we have safeties in TKJr and McDowell, we have OLBs in Bates and Weatherd..... we desperately need Hurd playing RB.

Can someone post the sparq time? I see that YouTube video but that looks hand timed. It's not setup for electronic. Just an honest question, no bashing needed. I just enjoy watching runningbacks

No offense, but may I suggest that you do a better job articulating your point? Seems most of us have read what you're trying to say the same way.

I'm just saying if his 40 time is a 4.3-4.4 and his game speed is supposed to be 4.55. Then the average college players game speed would be 4.65ish. So he's still as fast or faster than the competition.

From everything Vol74 has said and jalen himself has said, His shoulder should be fine. It isn't like an acl. Its not a load bearing joint. Montario Hardesty played half of his senior season with a messed up shoulder. He will have plenty of time to heal and strengthen it.

And IMO, he could play WR or Safety or TE or whatever. But he will play RB and its my personal opinion he will be better than gurley.

The Eric Dickerson comparison is a lot closer than people think. Same build. Similar running styles and abilities. Granted Dickerson is in the HOF, and it might seem like I'm trying to say Hurd will have the same results, but all I'm really saying is I see a lot of natural ability and potential at the RB position. The main thing I liked is he hits the hole, then hashmarks, then numbers, then sidelines. You hardly ever see a young RB with the discipline to not do the east/west stuff.

The defense rests...your honor :)

Well done as usual KB

What you mean?

You come across as a clown questioning medical diagnosis and 40 times...not to mention the human angle of the brokenhearted Beech fans despondent at his me first attitude...sounds like a book or a script being shopped to Oliver Stone

I am a fan of jalen. In fact I said he can be one of the greatest backs to come through this program. Don't call me a clown. I don't deserve no disrespect from no one. It's pathetic. U wanna talk a big game go play the game.

I happend to have played running back my whole entire life until bout 04'.I know a thing or two. I Just gave an analysis. This is a message board, open to opinions. You don't like my opinion that is fine, but don't call me a clown. That is something I am not. I am not taking that disrespect fom anyone. I put in a lot of blood and tears.

Derrick Henry is bigger than Hurd and he's at running back.

Matt Forte, Darren McFadden, Chris Brown, TJ Yeldon, Eddie George, Eric Dickerson, Steven Jackson, Matt Jones, etc.

This isn't new territory.

I expect him to be great and agree he's a great athlete, but don't get hopes too high. He will definitely be a huge improvement.

The bolded part is true though. You'll hate to hear it, but I think everyone in tennessee that follows sports knows Ensworth. They recruit and they are darn good. Hurd didn't look like an all star when they matched up. I follow both schools as I'm in middle tn. He looked like a serviceable back when put against a team full of recruits.

No sweat IMO.

whole entire life until bout 04'

I played RB half of my entire life till 10th grade, then for my whole entire rest of my life I played mainly defense. For a quarter of my entire life before my life as a 10th grader I did play RB though.
