Jameis Winston saga (merged)

I agree that the rule is dumb.

But there is no way post-Manziel that a college football player wouldn't know about it. Its Winston simply believing he is entitled to get away with anything he wants. And no one at FSU having the stones to slow this thing down.

LW, as you said, they can't admit anything now by holding him out a game. They have to hope somehow that he, and they, can thread these multiple needles and survive to the end of the season, then he goes to the NFL. FSU fan office worker says its like Winston is so big he just creates his own gravity.

He knows. His track record indicates he simply doesn't care. Like you stated: "entitled".

Two weeks ago, my FSU friends were very defensive. Facebook posts supporting Winston, that sort of thing. But in the last few days there has been a shift. Quieter now, steeling themselves it seems to the possibility that it's ALL true.

The die hards on FSU boards are sticking to the script. But it's starting to set in, I think, that everything he has done, everything the team achieved, is about to have the taint of Winston and the university's misdeeds permanently attached.

Atleast he can admit his son messes up a lot. The question is why is he trying so hard to protect him, when he didn't in the pass. Is it because he knows his son is a future meal ticket?

That is right. Come on son, make it to nfl draft day.

Jameis Winston's attorney sends letter to FSU, says school not protecting QB's interests - Orlando Sentinel

So now the university is finally getting around to doing something about this and Winston's lawyer says it is not protecting Winston enough ??

What kind of alternate reality did I wake up in today?

After reading this more carefully, his lawyer does have a point of FSU not following set policy and taking 20 months to do anything..........then send JW a letter stating he has to respond in 5 days. As much as you hate it because he is a 'nole, he is afforded rights under the same Title IX.

1) The university gave the report to Winston's lawyer before it gave it to the local authorities.

Did Winston's lawyer complain then that FSU wasn't following procedure?

2) Winston's lawyer was allowed to statementize the witnesses before local authorities even knew of the incident.

Did Winston's lawyer complain then that FSU wasn't following procedure?

3) The university failed to perform a timely Title IX investigation.

Did Winston's lawyer complain then that FSU wasn't following procedure?

One could argue that FSU running interference with the TPD contributed to Winston avoiding a charge. He should not be biting the hand that feeds.

It it his job to at this point? He represents JW

Unless it is something that is a negative for his client, are you suggesting that he go out of his way to make sure his client faces the charges?

You or I would, the second that the hand that feeds you throws you back out into the wild. Not saying its right or whatever, but this lawyer is just doing his job for his client, No?

Oh don't misunderstand. I get why he is doing this. He's protesting the timing. The last thing he wants is Winston having to choose between:

a) testifying at the hearing and likely opening himself up to criminal prosecution; or,

b) not testifying and being found guilty of sexual misconduct by the university, seriously hampering his pro career prospects.

So could it be that they will try to delay this until after the season is over? Winston goes pro, the hearing is moot. FSU moves on.

I agree with that. But it's also true that this attorney, and his client, owe the school a debt of gratitude for providing him with information and time that they should not have had.

Complaining about the timing of this disciplinary action (which will likely be nothing more than a dog and pony show that results in the status quo being maintained) is a lousy way to say "Thanks for helping to keep me out of court."
