PSU has a heck of a QB, will be a soph next season -- the loser Franklin has every thing he needs with no work recruiting if he goes to PSU.

Yes, I think Munchak is a token interview to satisfy the old farts in their booster circuit. No major college program should even consider a guy like Munchak to be head coach.

I still dont see PSU giving Franklin the job. But I've been wrong before. In fact, early on, I was wrong about Strong to Texas. So im on a losing streak. But I cannot see PSU giving the program to Franklin.

I really don't get this argument. There is no indication that Franklin covered anything up. It looks bad that it happened and the case in general has been hushed but there is no indication that Franklin was involved or did anything but cooperate with the investigation. If anything that should help him at PSU.

You can knock the present condition of their conference or what PSU did recently with turning a blind eye but it's hard to say they're not just as storied and accomplished as most powerhouse SEC teams.

Vanderbilt can't provide him the physical support needed to change the calculus in the SEC for Vandy even if they threw all of their support behind him. They can pay him (they do have money) and they can be a more consistently good or at least better team than they've been since the 1920s until recently but they're never going to be a powerhouse and certainly not a consistent powerhouse for several reasons including space limitations and being a smaller school. There's just too many other SEC schools with far more resources Vandy can't tap. Consider how hard it would be to build UT-style facilities and practice fields in Nashville based on space limitations alone.

PSU on the other hand can provide everything a coach with high ambitions could ever want without taking the prestige knock that leaving an SEC school for another conference that would normally happen. None of that means Franklin will set the world on fire up there but it's an opportunity Vandy just can't provide and with the resources he'll have he should be able to well.

It should be easy to distinguish between a school like Vandy that cooperated with the police after a crime happened on its campus, and Penn St, which covered up years of child rape.

Of course PSU should hire a guy who's never been involved with college recruiting aside from his own, and we all know that recruiting has changed very little since 1977. The perfect guy to handle a program hamstrung by scholarship limitations is a guy who has never been involved in college coaching.

You got me there. Look at the long list of programs whose head coaches aren't known as great recruiters, but thanks to a strong staff, they keep putting together great classes...

You are assuming lack of recruiting means that he wont be a great recruiter. Could be fair, may not be fair.

Franklin may be know and a good recruiting. But with the 33rd ranked recruiting class, I would beg to differ. I know it is comparing apples to Oranges, but your beloved bama would burn down if you have the 33rd ranked recruiting class.
