James Franklin is supposedly....

Pointing at the 9-7 record should be a negative as the titans have regressed from that even after spending a ton of money to upgrade the team

Tell Nick Saban, Les Miles, Hugh Freeze, Urban Meyer, Mark Right, Jimbos Fisher, Gus Malzahn and a host of other solid coaches that "recruiting is done by assistants."

They aren't comparable, but you are doing everything in your power to compare them.

What else is there to look at? One is an NFL hof'er with 30 years of NFL experience with hc experience. The other was the hc at Vandy. Im being logical. Munch is what they seem to look for as evidenced with BOB. The Sabans recruit with their coordinators and seal the deal themselves. By ALL accounts Munch is an awesome salesman and I see no problem with him selling the program because he is a product of the program. Its very easy to me...imo

Yeah he really sealed that extension with the Titans didn't he?

And no, you're not being logical. At all.

Jmo but I don't think Munchak should be a head coach on any level. Watching the Titans, he looked lost, confused, out of place, and uncomfortable on the sidelines and the product on the field reflected that. If him and Franklin are my only two choices, I'm throwing the bank at Franklin.

Reports indicate he was going to get his salary doubled and they wanted him to fire some or most of his assistants. Yes, to get his salary doubled with his record is pretty good.

That actually speaks more to the stupidity of the Titans to offer a coach with that record any kind of raise, but if Munchak were a great salesman, he should have been able to convince them to keep him and not have to fire his assistants.

I would hire Franklin over Munch, no question. Love Munch and what he has given the Titans organization, but he has never coached at the college level and it is a completely different world.

If you were being logical, you'd understand the difference between coaching in college and coaching in the NFL.

Munch is what they seem to look for as evidenced with BOB.

As I pointed out before, O'Brien had over a decade of college coaching experience, as a position coach and coordinator, before moving on to the NFL. O'Brien was infinitely more qualified to take over a major college program than Munchak.

Accounts from whom? I've had numerous opportunities to sit and speak with Munch. He's a great guy, and is without a doubt a player's coach. But what makes him a "great saleman"? You don't have to sell anything in the NFL. The one time he had to give a pitch was to Peyton Manning, and his group lost out.

If you want an example of what happens when someone with little to no college experience suddenly takes over as a head coach, look at Charlie Weis. His only college experience was working as a GA at South Carolina while getting his degree. He never had a coaching position on any college staff prior to heading to the NFL. How'd Charlie's head coaching career wind up?

If PSU hires Munch, they're going to go through this coaching search process again in a couple of years. As soon as he has a chance to get back in the League, he gone.

And you dont think Franklin would bounce the second a sweeter deal came along?

Did you happen to miss the point that in that very quote I stated that it is comparing apples to oranges?

I can't stand Franklin but comparing the two it's a no brainer. Yes Franklin has beat cupcakes but he has brought some excitement to a doormat program. He would be a thorn in Meyers side and could get that team fired up. Munch is 100x the person franklin is, but he is not a good motivator and was a sub par coach. I have watched his coaching ability and he always played down to his competition and his team regressed over the past three years. PSU may hire him for his PSU ties, but Franklin is the better option.

And you dont think Franklin would bounce the second a sweeter deal came along?

I don't know. He would have to prove himself at that level, but I'd rather have a successful coach leave than fire a deadbeat one. PSU cannot screw this hire up with the effects of probation they are under

Let's be honest. Right now, PSU needs integrity over wins. They are keeping the straight and narrow trying to get back scholarships and bowl eligibility. Pretty sure Munchak is the better fit.

The only part is maybe the integrity part. If they are wanting bowl eligibility I fail to see how Munchak is the better fit. Which one has proven they are good at that at the college level?

Why do you say that? Franklin is the coach at Vandy! There are a lot of jobs better than that one, including PSU.

Hell, Jones' longest tenure is 3 years. Are you worried about him leaving?

They will have to get sanctions lifted before the can play in a bowl regardless of record...So the integrity part plays into everything I just said...

You missed the point. That was in response to dre saying Munchak would leave asap. To which I said Franklin would too.

And in a backwards kind of way. I would be okay with Jones leaving in 3 years to something better. That would mean he was pretty successful turning things around here.

If Munchak is hired, there's a better chance than Franklin that in 3 years when they can go to a bowl, they'll still be in poor position to do so because they're hiring a guy that has zero experience with college coaching.

But you can't say that about Franklin as this is his 1st HC job. He may land at a "destination" school and stay 15-20 years.

Regarding Jones, we'll see. I'm not sure what to expect at this point besides lame slogans and good recruiting.

I can deal with the slogans as long as the recruiting stays like this.
