James Franklin is supposedly....

Munch has about 20 victories in the NFL (as a hc) including a play off team or two this season. JF beat Umass.

He was 3-20 versus teams that ended with a winning record. So let's not act like Munch impressed anyone with what he did with the Titans. He has some horrible losses too, ones that kept him out of the playoffs (Colts 2011, Jaguars 2013).

Just to be sure - as scheduled, Mike Munchak absolutely interviewed with Penn State today in Nashville.

I trust what @mortreport said about Mike Munchak interviewing with Penn State. He's a pro. Basing my tweet on what Munchak said

Not surprised Munchak would deny it. Penn State probably told him to keep quiet. He quickly changed subject #Titans

I guess technically Wyatt could still be right...he said he didn't interview AT Penn St. today...Mort said it was in Nashville. So either someone flew to Nashville to do it, or they did the ol' Skype interview.

If Franklin is really a candidate, then I can see why they'd come to Nashville.

There's no doubt he's a candidate. I think he's getting the job.

I think PSU is interviewing Munch to keep those "keep it in the PSU family" people happy, but Franklin to be named on Thursday or Friday.

I don't see how Jimmy Frank turns it down.

If he's offered then he'd be crazy to turn it down. PSU is one of the few schools outside the SEC that is historically (minusing out the recent scandal) as respected as most SEC schools. You can knock the present condition of their conference or what PSU did recently with turning a blind eye but it's hard to say they're not just as storied and accomplished as most powerhouse SEC teams.

Vanderbilt can't provide him the physical support needed to change the calculus in the SEC for Vandy even if they threw all of their support behind him. They can pay him (they do have money) and they can be a more consistently good or at least better team than they've been since the 1920s until recently but they're never going to be a powerhouse and certainly not a consistent powerhouse for several reasons including space limitations and being a smaller school. There's just too many other SEC schools with far more resources Vandy can't tap. Consider how hard it would be to build UT-style facilities and practice fields in Nashville based on space limitations alone.

PSU on the other hand can provide everything a coach with high ambitions could ever want without taking the prestige knock that leaving an SEC school for another conference that would normally happen. None of that means Franklin will set the world on fire up there but it's an opportunity Vandy just can't provide and with the resources he'll have he should be able to well.

He could recruit 100x better too. But I agree with all of what your saying. I hope PSU gets better, just like I hope we do, and Texas, and the other traditionally powered programs that are "down" right now. It's better for the sport.

Completely agree. Although I wouldn't mind tOSU being replaced permanently by Sparty.

I just don't see them hiring Franklin. I hope I am wrong. Would love to see them hire Franklin and Haslem hire Bob Stoops. It might make me feel a little better about 2014.

Basically on VandyMania right now, they seem to really believe he'd never leave Vandy for PSU, and actually are believing what he said after their bowl win. Which is hilarious because even Joe Fisher didn't seem to buy what Franklin said as an outright denial.

That and some other thread where they're arguing about kids at a game.

Franklin isnt going anywhere -- name comes up but never any offers or even interviews - he is no good

Penn papers listed him as priority number 1 in terms of potential hires. Plus, he's been interviewed. Sure he's over hyped around here but that doesn't mean he's not a serious candidate or that it's all about his agent putting his name out. And FWIW, we're the only place that thinks he's over hyped -- the rest of the SEC and country doesn't read about him constantly and they don't hear the same 'he walks on water' puffery we hear because they're not in the same state.

Lmao. So you think the whole reason they came to Nashville was because the main target was Franklin, and Munchak was just a secondary interview? You are hilarious mam.

Agree.

Franklin might be the hire, I hope he is, but PSU is serious about them both. I really hope its Peanut head. Just to see vandy's melt down.

Franklin is losing 18 seniors, all of which he didn't recruit and most have been the biggest part of his success. He knows next year at Vandy will be 3 wins at best. This cat is gone at first offer.
