He's beat up on lesser competition and teams that are down. He won the games where his team was favored and generally lost the rest. Now he has shot his mouth off a lot, which has gotten VU some attention from the media and with some recruits who may not have otherwise considered them. He's pretty much a black Lane Kiffin.

The bottom line is Franklin won where others could not. I do not like the man, but give him credit.
They couldn't even build a bigger stadium on the spot of the existing one. It's practically surrounded. There isn't enough room for the support structures required to build an upper deck. Heck, the school doesn't even own the land that would be needed to close in the East endzone.
Very true my friend totally agree with you I give him credit for that. He also has had the fortune and luck other's haven't.
He has benefited from a Charmin Soft non-conference schedule, They really don't pull any of the powers out of the SEC west, they also have played in a weak SEC east division. Now had Florida, Georgia, and TN have been what they suppose to have been and he still was able to win then I could give him a lot more credit than I do.
Right from the get go here, I personally don't like Franklin. But....He is a better motivator than coach. He has those kids bouncing off the wall and ceiling to play football. He has some very good assistant coaches as well. He's instilled a winning attitude at VU, which is something no other coach in recent memory has been able to do. So, if he leaves, I don't blame him for taking a job to further his career.
It didn't appear, however, like his current employer was going to allow Franklin to leave for Penn State without something to consider.
Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams told Nashville radio station 104.5 FM Wednesday afternoon that he has spoken with Franklin about staying on with the Commodores in the wake of the news he'd accept the Penn State offer. Williams wouldn't confirm speculation that he offered the man he called "the best college football coach in America" more money, improved facilities or a bigger financial commitment to the program to stay.
But he had no qualms about saying how far he'd go to ensure Franklin continues on the Commodores' sidelines.
"I'd shave my head (to keep Franklin)," Williams said, "and I'd give him the money I saved going to the barber shop." Despite the late meeting and job offer to Franklin, another day passed without a hire, a day after athletic director Dr. David Joyner reiterated his opinion from late last week that the search for the 16th Nittany Lions coach is "robust" and should be over in a matter of days.
Nobody here will give him credit because A) He's the coach at Vandy and B) He owns us right now.
Totally agree man
I think he would do well recruiting in the DMV unfortunately. He has ties already in place there. Easier route to a big bowl as well. No matter how much they improve at Vandy they will never make an SECCG. The East will bounce back sooner rather than later IMO. 2014 will be a step or two back for VU on the field IMO.

Vandy lost to us in 2011 27-21...2012 blew out a team that completely QUIT on Dooley IMHO with a big double :the_finger: to say pack your bags bum 41-18...& in 2013 4th and can't see the balled a win 14-10.
Beat us yes...but when I think of owning someone...well I consider owning a team when you beat them 5-7 times in a row. JMHO on owning a team.
He's a good, not a great recruiter. 247 has Vandy ranked 33, Scout 36 and Rivals around 25 currently. There's only 1-2 players any top team in the SEC would want. He's done very good "for Vandy", but much like when you should evaluate his record based on his ridiculously weak schedule, his recruiting has to be similarly viewed for what it is "at Vandy".
The guy can flatout coach. You're either not paying attention or you just got a real bad case of the butthurts not to see that.
Do people not understand the concept of relativity? Top 30 classes at Vandy is beyond good, it's great, given what he has to work with and what he has to sell. You're also disregarding his top 20 class last year.
When given better resources and a better product to sell Franklin could become elite. Vandy's classes can't be compared straight up to any of the major SEC program's because they're not on an equal playing field.
