Obviously we can't beat him. Hate to say that but I hope he goes to PSU so we can get back to dominating the black and gold again. A new coach will have trouble bringing in good recruits to Vandy.
This just showed up on ESPN. Looks like PSU has made the offer.
Penn State offers Vanderbilt's James Franklin its head coaching position - ESPN
.
and his recruiting is being done without the restrictions previous Vandy coaches dealt with. Finishing 9th or 10th in the conf is not elite
Do people not understand the concept of relativity? Top 30 classes at Vandy is beyond good, it's great, given what he has to work with and what he has to sell. You're also disregarding his top 20 class last year.
When given better resources and a better product to sell Franklin could become elite. Vandy's classes can't be compared straight up to any of the major SEC program's because they're not on an equal playing field.

The fact that posters on our board are asking which recruits we can flip if Franklin leaves says plenty about his ability to recruit. In a state with way below average talent and tough academic admission restrictions, I'd say he's doing ok.
Yeah we can't beat him; that's why Dooley beat him his first year, Franklin whips a lame duck Dooley team his next year, and barely beats us with our backup freshman QB.
You guy are ridiculous in how much you're scared of him. Absolutely ridiculous.
I don't remember those kind of questions being asked during the Bobby Johnson era.
Your point is my point. Relative to what Vandy has always been he's done a great job. He's won games that most other Vandy coaches have not been able to win. Rather than finish in the top 60 in recruiting, he's finishing in the top 25-35. I've said in numerous posts he's a very good coach who's done a fantastic job. Kudos.
But it doesn't stack up to other top programs and it shows....he hasn't beaten any other top programs.
I believe Franklin is a very good coach, has done a great job at Vandy and would do a great job at a place like Penn State or Texas. We'll probably see soon enough. But to call him a great coach while ignoring how he's gotten to a 24-15 record during his 3 years at Vandy is being willfully naive IMO.
Again, 5 of his wins this year came vs teams with a combined 9-51 record. He beat a hidtorically bad 4-8 Florida team absolutely decimated by injuries. He was completely blown out vs 2 of the 3 Top 25 teams he played (TAM & Mizzou) and was down 28-0 vs the 3rd (SCar) before they let off the gas.
I don't remember those kind of questions being asked during the Bobby Johnson era.
VN wasn't as big either and Johnson had to work with real students
but are you seriously stating that every question asked on VN is a valid one worthy of legit discussion? Or do you happen to be cherry-picking to back your agenda?
No, not every question posed on VN is valid or worthy of discussion as evidenced by the questions you asked in your post.
The guy has only beat 4 teams with a winning record, and only 1 ranked team. He has benefitted from a cupcake schedule and a down Sec east. Franklin is a joke, check the stats.
But how many teams was Vandy beating before he coached there? I understand that vol fans hate the guy, but it is stupid to think he is a bad coach. He has done great things at a school not known for talent or any tradition of winning. First back to back 9 win seasons, and the most bowl games of any Vandy coach.
