Jim McElwain has been fired (confirmed)

All this from "sources" to FootballScoop whose second story is "Ohio State completes the greatest comeback in sports history". No grandstanding there.

So there's an ongoing hire-off between Florida and Tennessee? How stressed are y'all right now?

Let's compare the last 5 hires....

McElwain vs Butch - UF wins
Muschamp vs Dooley - UF wins
Meyer vs Kiffin - UF wins
Fulmer vs Zook - Hey, we win one
Majors vs Spurrier - UF wins

Who would you want as our next coach?

I like a lot of the names being thrown around. If the report today is true we are going to throw a lot of money at Gruden then if he says no move on to the other candidates. After that I like Mullen and Kelly. Regardless, we can't get a coach that is any worse at basic game management so anyone will be an upgrade.

My point about telling people to relax is that last time when we fired Dooley, we didn't have a good idea of who was really available. We got publicly rejected by several coaches and ended up settling on Butch because we were desperate. If we let Butch coach a couple more games while we get a feel for who we can really get then so be it. At least we will have a better plan than last time. JMO...

I think Florida would like to have Mullens if they can get him, but they will settle for Frost...at the same time DO NOT count out Jimbo @ FSU[things have been a little shaky the past two seasons]...its freakin' Florida and they will have no shortage of interested HIGH LEVEL suitors...the SEC used to be UF & UT period!...Florida's level of expectations seems to want to get back on track...WHAT ABOUT UT's...DAMN IT 😤😤😤

Florida is extremely dumb to fire mac now. Glad UT isn't as dumb as Florida.

They’ve could see the writing on the wall, it shouldn’t take 5 seasons to get a handle on your coach, hell im jealous that they’re beating us to the punch on a new head coach. Local news just threw out Strong , Mullins and Bob Stoops for starters ..

How do you feel about McElwain's firing? How influential were the suspensions on Florida's success this season?

The suspensions weren't as influential as McElwain lying about players getting death threats, then refusing to provide additional information to law enforcement or UF's brass.

That said, the suspensions happened under Mac's watch, and it appeared to be an organized operation...or as organized as a group of college students with no grasp of what a paper trail is.

I'm good with McElwain getting gone. It was clear he wasn't the long term answer.

By the way, congrats on a great run this season. I'm looking forward to watching you guys play Alabama.

Florida officially announces his firing. It was with cause.

McElwain, UAA Mutually Agree to Part Ways - Florida Gators

Very strange announcement, you agree to split but have no agreement as to the split. Hard to imagine the shark boy walking away without most of it, its probably his last big gig.... of course, many (maybe even myself) said the same thing about Muschamp.

The two parties are currently negotiating terms of separation.

Sounds like Florida is asking for a handout.

I appreciate that, but it's far from over. We can't underestimate any of the teams left on our schedule.

That said, if we do finish the regular season undefeated (or with a single loss), I think we have a solid chance at beating Alabama. The A&M game proved that they're beatable.

^^^^^^^
Look above your post, technically no he has not been fired... but he will no longer be the coach. They can tell him not to show up for work (splitting hairs), it sounds like they are asking him not to ask for the whole amount due... $12m+. At this point, with the "thanks" part seems like begging for the money.

Wow I just seen on tv that Florida fired they’re coach. Is that cunfirmed?

And that buyout? Why would we do that to ourselves? Fact is McElwain is a decent coach, not quite up to Florida's standards. If we had a head coach who wasn't a terrible in-game coach, we'd probably have won the last 4 meetings versus Florida instead of just 1.

At this point if we can't sway the big dogs (Patterson, Peterson, Kelly, Gru---Ill stop there) then we better be ready to "settle" for a mid-tier up-and-comer -- Frost, Norvell & Morris come to mind. Also Pruitt, Venables, and maybe Daboll (Bama's OC) are viable candidates. I think Pruitt and Venables would be ready for that jump. Not sure about Daboll.

Now that TCU has fallen back to earth maybe Patterson is doable
