tOSU is working with the NCAA for the most part and they just canned their coach.
If I had to bet, the Bucknuts won't get hammered. They'll lose a handful of scholarships and Tressel will never coach again.

Seems like this goes a lot deeper than one coach. Will be interested to see how the SI article plays into this and what else is investigated.
If this has been going on for 10 years, tats and cars, at somepoint you are going to get a bare minimum Failure to Monitor, and at this point I would argue a LOIC.
Sorry for the accountant in me to come out, but this is screaming lack of internal controls of tOSU athletic dept. that one person could effectively keep it from everyone else.
It does sound like Ohio State is working with the NCAA but the fact that they are looking into 50 more players might bury them. If you've got 50 guys all receiving cash, cars and special benefits, I don't know how you can call it anything other than lack of institutional control.
Doesn't the rule say that they can ignore the statue of limitations if there's an obvious pattern of complete disregard for the rules? The statute of limitations is going to limit how many of those 50 are actually able to be used against tOSU.
I don't think that's going to happen again after SMU. At least not to any relevant program. It's obvious there is a lack of institutional control. However, they will try to weasel out and blame it all on Tressel to keep the program from getting the death penalty.
The thing is, if they don't hammer them, they would essentially be saying that some schools are basically untouchable. That can't be a message they want to send. The NCAA doesn't want one of its largest money makers getting hammered.

Yes but there's no reason to go back if 20 some odd players have done it in the past 4 years. It would just be overkill

It's basically the only punishment that fits the crime

I agree. That's why the NCAA will gladly ban Tressel for life and slap a 5 scholarship reduction on tOSU for 3 or 4 years. tOSU gets punished and the big bad Tressel is jobless
Look at the stuff they pinned on Kiffin after he left. It's easy to say "We told him to follow the rules but he didn't listen".
I do agree it's a systemic problem. tOSU has been dirty for a long time.
Tuesday in Columbus felt like a funeral for Jim Tressel -- and a burial for Terrelle Pryor
I wouldn't be surprised if Pryor simply withdrew from school. There's talk of a supplemental NFL draft. Time to tuck tail.

There isn't a draft because of the lock out so he's screwed. There is no incentive for him to stay in school though. And he is arrogant, crazy, stupid as hell to be pimping rides around after this. I mean he cost Tressel his job. Just imagine if say Casey Clausen who was supposed to be the next Manning/Martin did this too Fulmer ( Remember he was in his peak of winning 10-11 games a yr at that time ) and ruin Rocky Top. We would run his a** out of town. Don't athlete know how to keep it on the low low anymore. That's the number one rule of the streets.
