JJJ and Julian going through draft process

Imo, Phillips is looking for any reason to stay in the draft even though I don’t think he’s ready for the NBA anytime soon.

Hopefully he finds a team that will be patient long enough for him to get stronger and develop some offense. Otherwise, he’ll be playing overseas somewhere.
There's a serious disconnect around here between what NBA scouts are looking for and what you guys seem to "think" they are looking for.

Hard to believe the Spurs will have had number one picks that yielded Duncan, Robinson, and now Wembanyama. That kid is going to light that town up again.
I was thinking the same thing, last night. That franchise has had some luck in the draft with #1s.

A couple other franchises who have fared well...

Orlando Magic (Shaq, Webber...whom they immediately traded for Penny and 3 future 1sts, and Banchero)

Houston Rockets (Ralph Sampson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Yao Ming)

Just saw a mock draft on ESPN: JJJ is slotted in at pick number 53.

Phillips is not slotted.
I just finished looking at ESPN+ first 2 rounds predictions. It actually showed Julian Phillips at No. 53 picked by Minnesota T-Wolves. JJJ was not listed in the first 2 rounds.

Just to be clear, there are only two rounds in total.

in a lot of cases its better to be undrafted than a second rounder. look at what happened with guys like these

  • Avery Johnson. ...
  • Brad Miller. College: Purdue. ...
  • Fred VanVleet. College: Witchita State. ...
  • Udonis Haslem. College: Florida. ...
  • Bruce Bowen. College: Cal State Fullerton. ...
  • John Starks. College: Oklahoma State. ...
  • Connie Hawkins. College: Iowa. ...
  • Ben Wallace. College: Virginia Union University.
and of course Austin Reeves and Jeremy Lin.

Phillips has elected to not participate in the scrimmage. Just wild. I guess he knows he’s way too raw and he is purely banking on his athleticism to get him drafted.

They strategize quite a bit over who should and shouldn’t scrimmage. It usually has to do with who they interviewed with, and what those teams want to know. If there’s no big upside for scrimmaging, they skip it.

Really hope he gets a nice draft spot. Helps our recruiting and we don't have to see him balling for Pearl.

Agree. And it’s the perfect market for a player to simply focus on his game w/o having to worry about the media and an over the top fan base. Perfect situation.

You may be right; I dunno how to make sense of professional basketball worldwide anymore.

But it's funny that in the football forum, there are posters opining that Okoye's NFL-high combine numbers don't mean a thing in the college game and that he'll be on the sidelines for 4 years... while here a combine best in one category should be enough to get a player drafted in the NBA.

Who knows? We'll see eventually.

That's been the goal for him and his family from the jump. Wish him great success because it helps our recruiting. Having said that, I'll be damned glad when both he and JJJ have gotten on their next paths in life and all this talk about them coming back to UT quickly fade away.

You forgot the magic took Dwight #1 too
