Not this week, our loss was pretty bad recently. We win our NY6 bowl game in a convincing way and I think we end the season ranked in the top 4 and ahead of Bama.

It sucks, but if you compare our losses it isnt really close. Bama lost 2 very close games to top 10/top 5 teams. We lost handily to the number one team and got absolutely destroyed by a team we should've beat by 3 touchdowns.

Yes, we beat bama but it could've easily gone either way and our loss to USCe (and how bad we lost) is bad enough to cancel out the head to head.

One game only has one outcome. It's either a W or an L. The magnitude only comes into play if you have two teams that are closely situated and things like absolute record, head to head, record vs common opponents, and record vs ranked opponents, and there is literally no other way to differentiate the teams, then you can rely on things like who has the best looking road uniforms or who lost the worst.

Edit: here is another more rational way to look at it. One of the most stable predictors of wins and losses is aggregate talent differences that you can get from something as simple as 4 year team composite talent rankings.

UT has the 19th most talented roster and went to the 20th most talented team and lost by 25.

Ohio State (3) lost at home by 22 to the 14th most talented roster.

If you adjust out very real home field advantage you get that UT lost to a team with talent closely resembling UT by 22. And Ohio State lost to a significantly less talented Michigan by 25.
You're over thinking it man. Alabama lost 2 games by a total of 4 points to highly ranked teams. Tennessee got blown out by a unranked team and gave up 63 points just last week.

With head to head records both 10-2, —Tennessee beat Bama and LSU (on the road), Bama lost to both UT and LSU (on the road)
SOS for both teams about the same
South Carolina win AT Clemson makes our beat down eye test not quite as bad ( yeah we blew it, but we still pulled out 10-2 record with tough road wins at Pitt and LSU)
VOTE!
There's no way the powers to be will let us jump Bama, NO WAY! Oh, and by the way, run that mouth some more Dabo!!!

The way in which Tennessee lost to South Carolina will be the deciding factor. Alabama lost two road games by, what, 3 points? Four points? Both high scoring. That's almost literally what the committee means when they say "eye test." And Alabama has the tradition of winning, Nick Saban, and Bryce Young on their side. Voters can say they won't consider those sorts of things, but we know some will - subconsciously if nothing else.

Had Tennessee looked competitive at South Carolina, this conversation is completely different. But Tennessee didn't. They blinked. And the voters will look at both teams and say "Alabama was a consistently strong team that had a few trip ups at the end of tough road games. Tennessee can score like crazy but their defense is inconsistent and sometimes non-existent." Barring some sort of epic collapse by multiple teams next week, It's over.

Hooker being out will also play in if it came to be scrutinized that much but last week sealed our fate from any consideration.

Those scores shouldn't matter when you're looking at two teams with the same record, in the same conference, and have a game where who is the better team was decided on the field even if you avoid looking at other meaningful criteria like records vs common opponents.

You're starting at the least important metrics and moving up, I'm starting at the most important and moving down the list.

We beat Bama...with Hooker. If you think we'd beat the Tide with Milton it's fine to say we should be ahead of Bama.

If you think we'd lose to Bama with Milton then there's probably no reason to go through the other components, e.g., bad loss to South Carolina.

Well the committee disagrees with you so actually that's the most important thing. We had our opportunity they gave us national attention and respect. Then we shat the bed in South Carolina. We only can blame ourselves

I voted yes, not because I believe that is how it will play out - but because that is what should happen.

I know the SC loss was bad and that it was Vandy - but a lot of folks due to the loss of Hooker and the SC game had us struggling and maybe even losing to Vandy. We did not struggle at all.

Lots of teams have done that .... OSU, LSU, Clemson ... would love for the other 4 to do the same ... honestly TCU should have lost to both Texas and Baylor and UM should have lost to Illinois. UGA has constantly, (except for Tennessee) played down to their opponents. None of the top 4 are all that.

I'm not saying we should be in the playoff I'm just looking at a rational way to rank football teams. (and the committee actually agrees with me that overall records and head to head matter more than "worst loss" which they never mention).

The problem is they often ignore their own criteria to support conclusions that they want, and as long as fans keep accepting and twisting their own logic to explain it away, that will never change.

Remember this conversation is about what should happen. I've tried to give a reasonable set of criteria to judge that That isn't the same as what will happen.

The head-to-head result should be the tie-breaker when comparing two teams who have the same overall record, and the same conference record, with a similar strength of schedule. Comparing losses is unnecessary when there is a head-to-head matchup to consider. So what, that it could have gone either way? Tennessee should be ranked ahead of Alabama. PERIOD.

Having said that, I don't think it will matter much. Georgia, Michigan, TCU and USC should all win this Saturday and that's your College Football Playoff 1-4. Tennessee should get an invite to the Orange Bowl ... and if that is how it does play out, we should all feel a lot better about the loss to South Carolina. It will not have ended up costing us the CFP #4 ranking. USC would have jumped us, even if we had blown out South Carolina. USC as the 12-1 Pac 10 Champion, was never going to be left out of the CFP. Not a chance.

Yes but only if it positions the Vols for a better bowl and screws Bama. At the end of the season even if Bama and UT both win their bowls UT should be ahead.

Afraid the committe just won't be able to get past the "63" - most points scored on a top 5 team by an unranked team in college football history, plus now with Hooker out they're just not putting us in no matter what happens. If anything I think they'll be looking to get 2 Big 10 teams in just for the look of not being SEC homers. Georgia, Michigan, TCU, are in. Coin toss on Bama and Ohio State for the 4th spot if USC losses again to Utah State.

This poll is somewhat biased. What do you think the response would have been if asked on a Bama forum.
Even if you disagree with it, the most unbiased poll will come out on Tuesday. Or do a poll on a LSU forum.

Who is the best team that Alabama has beaten in 2022?

* Not including Austin Peay, because they are an FCS team.

Three Teams Who Finished 8-4
Texas (8-4)
Mississippi State (8-4)
Ole Miss (8-4)

Two Teams Who Finished 6-6
Utah State (6-6)
Arkansas (6-6)

Three Teams Who Finished 5-7
Vanderbilt (5-7)
Texas A&M (5-7)
Auburn (5-7)

One Team That Finished 4-8
Louisiana Monroe (4-8)

They lost to the 2 best teams that they played. They beat absolutely no one.

Their best argument is two “good losses” our best argument is 2 good wins one of which includes beating them and their other good loss we manhandled
