Just lost ESPN on Spectrum

Well according to Charter ESPN charges 8$ per customer. My bill is over 100 so obviously we are paying for something we don’t watch.
You absolutely are. Tons of them in fact. Don't think I'm defending Charter. I used to work for them and they are not a nice company. I just thought it was notable that you picked nearly every type of channel that fits into that category.

Sounds like it's on the consumer. Their job is to make as much money as possible for their product. That's the obligation to share holders. They would be negligent to those they are responsible to if they didn't maximize their profits.

lol.

I would GUESS that they cannot restrict any station they are required to broadcast over the air.
That’s what I was thinking too. I’m still just a little scared it gets pulled right before the game starts. I guess I’ll just sign up for a free trial of YouTube TV if that happens.

By the way, with YouTube TV, does anyone know if it is it only available live, or can you watch a replay too?

Both companies will maximize their profits more by coming to an agreement as soon as possible. The longer this goes on, the more people will cancel their cable subscriptions, hurting both Charter and Disney.

If they switch to YouTube or whoever Espn gets their cut of whatever agreement they have with those companies. Only way Espn loses is if they drop charter/spectrum and the consumer goes to a place that doesn't already pay Espn. Which would be illogical

It’s still a net loss for ESPN. This kind of stuff pisses a lot of people off, and it will drive more people away from their networks. Most people online (not necessarily this forum) are blaming Disney / ESPN, rather than Charter / Spectrum.

Wrong. Charter/Spectrum is competing with other companies that supply ESPN. Everyone is still talking about the best way to watch the game. As a consumer, Tennessee football isn’t something I’m gonna stop watching.

Yea people hate paying more. But they do. Supply demand. Everyone loves capitalism until they have to "pay more." And the only way espn loses is if people decide they will forfeit watching college football bc it's too expensive or bc of outrage. I know who I think will win. Plus what the hell did people expect when espn was paying out the bleep to the sec for tv rights? That cost was going somewhere

His post makes zero sense. Disney/espn has made plenty of decisions and picked plenty of hills to die on over the past year or 2 to show they don’t care about revenue or the “shareholder”. Well that is until the chickens come home to roost and here we are. All of a sudden they have to let people go and they have a little leverage in our current predicament. Of course spectrum could walk away and they’ll lose even more but I don’t see spectrum taking that route. When it’s all said and done Disney will double down on the stupidity that got them in their current mess.

That’s the thing. How many people use to watch sportscenter every morning but stopped? When they got political instead of sticking to what they’re suppose to do they paid the price.

This will mot solve the espn situation, but for those that do not have abc sue to directv, you can download the abc app on your smart tv, and watch an abc affiliate that is not owned by nexstar. You can watch the abc affiliate from most major cities.

Gonna be a good weekend for Sling, YouTube TV, and Hulu Live TV.

Yep, just reworked my whole tv viewing package a while back with Charter. All streaming now and Was using spectrum app for locals and most everything else with a few apps individually. If they don’t have this worked out by tomorrow morning, I’ll drop the tv part of my plan and go full Hulu or YouTube TV. Charter seems to have a hard time understanding it’s 1) about their customers and 2) they don’t have pricing power over content providers, it’s the other way around. They only have pricing power insofar as their customers are willing to pay. There are far too many other options for charter/spectrum to play this game.

Somebody is about to learn the hard way you don’t mess with ppl before/during football season. That somebody is going to be spectrum. They are going to be losing several subscribers that they will never get back over this. Ppl will still watch ESPN and SEC network because that’s where most of the games will be shown they will just go to a different platform to get it so spectrum will be the big loser here

What will you do when those other platforms are held hostage by Disney/espn’s asinine business decisions?

I think this is a bigger push for all the content providers to move consumers to à la cart based services. Why strike deals with cable/satellite providers IF you can capture those consumers with your own package deal, like $10.99/mo for all the content that’s under the Disney umbrella? I pay $5.99 for Paramount +. They’re just figuring out how to cut out the middle man.

A lot of people have cut the cord and went that route. Not everyone wants to.

This week's game is on ESPN3 for free. So it can be accessed without switching. But Spectrum better hope this doesn't drag on.

Hoist the skull and bones flag😎
Honestly it's getting to that point with all these services raising prices but quality of shows hasn't improved with the increases

Where did you see that ESPN3 will be streaming for free? It’s part of the ESPN Spectrum package.
