Keystone Pipeline - a red line?

Very little land will be "taken". Most of this pipeline is underground, farmers (which will be most of the land impacted) will get paid and still be able to use the land.

But at the same time, every "conservative" on this board seems to be 100% in support of big government taking land from the people.

I know here that if the want to dig a well (gas) they usually throw 5-10k at you for being able to drive across your land. And if you own mineral rights, well you get a check every month on top of that.

The Canadian govt will eventually support building the refineries and processing facilities around Vancouver. The it's all Canadian jobs.

What's to stop that from happening after we build the pipeline?

My dad has an NG pipeline crossing a section of his land. Was compensated well and the pipeline company maintains it. Nice trail through the woods.

The land used for the pipeline. And "fed" should probably be used very loosely here because this is all being done to support one specific company.

So is it a private company or the fed that's building the pipeline?

Make up your mind what you want to argue about....

And for the people who don't want to give up their land to a private corporation?

Generally the compensation packages are hard to resist.

And don't go quoting that $400 nonsense again. Those people were idiots for not holding out for more.

Are we building the pipeline for free? How is it more economical for us to transport oil farther than they would have to?

Why don't you go find out how much it will cost to build a refinery that can crack the oil sands. Then get back with us.

This is 100% being done to support 1 private interprise. Which if done, would be a complete misuse of imminent domain.

The majority of the land will not be taken! The company will pay the landowner to put a pipeline right of way in. The landowner still owns the land.

Since when does imminent domain allow for holdouts?

If it wouldn't lead to a profit, they wouldn't do it. So why not by pass us and make the profit for themselves?

They do not have the facilities in place to process it. Much cheaper to build a couple thousand miles of pipeline than refineries.

Go find out how much it will cost to build a refinery capable of cracking those oil sands. Provide me a figure.

Hint. It's cheaper to build a pipeline to refineries that already exist to do that...
