I'm not saying Dooley won't do well just to argue. I'm saying it because I really don't think he'll do that well. I think it's hilarious that about a month ago everyone liked Kiffin and now everyone pretends we're much better off. No one even knew anything about Dooley. Is there is a chance he'll do okay? Yes, but there is essentially nothing to base that on, except for the recommendations of a couple of guys who don't really give a damn about UT. Dooley took a mediocre team and did about nothing for 3 years. Hopefully he'll turn out well, but I haven't really noticed anything which makes me feel overly confident about that.

I would guess in this case that Dooley would be Susan Boyle, but who is the "model."

FWIW people, I'm defending my point that Dooley was the best option we had, after being turned by our first, second, third, et al choices....not Dooley. However, I do have a gut feeling that this will turn out to be a good hire, though that's all I can base this on.

I think that by pigeon-holing him to his 17-20 record while at La Tech is doing him a disservice.

Here's a very interesting article that says a lot about his work while at La Tech and explains a lot about the 2009 season, one season after leading them to an 8-5 record and an Independence Bowl victory.

The most telling quote, IMO:

In the last 3 weeks we got a new HC who most of us are pumped about. We got a new DC today who could be a good up and commer. We have a top 10 class, which few thought possible. The only problem we have left is to attack the depth problems that began 2 coaching staffs ago and that people were commenting on in 2007. So....... can it please be time to start focusing on OUR school, OUR team, Our conf? Can it please be time to dtop the constant references to those goofballs who are 2,000 miles away in a different conf and who will most definately hang themselves in due time. If we want to get them back, lets hope to get good enough to whip em in a bowl down the road. Till then, WHY do we have to bring them up in relation to everything that happens to OUR school? Not them.... US.

I realize what the difference is b/w a review and a full fledge investigation. I was trying to just make the point that with Kiffin at the helm, there was always going to be the *potential* for the NCAA to come knocking.

I gave that link up as evidence to the contrary of Voldad's post. Are we clear now? :mf_surrender:

I couldn't care less if some coach turns UT in for something as stupid as they did. UT was in no danger of actually getting in trouble, and there was never anything to worry about, either.

Oh, you mean the NY reporter making much ado about nothing. What are you hearing from the NCAA investigation – that is right – Nothing.

USC has the Reggie Bush affair; Bama breaks rules while on probation; UF has 27 arrests; and you are concerned about baggage from Hostesses attending a High School game.

What a wimpy fan base we have.

Kiff had something very good going here. We didn't think PC would leave and gave him an easy out with his buyout. Dumb contract and we paid for it. I think Dooley has done a good job but to try and act like Kiffin sucks now is laughable. Now I hope we can win recruiting battles with our biggest rivals. Before Kiffin left I knew we would. As far as I am concerned Kiffin is not relevant to my football experience. We are still one the most prestigious programs in the nation and I think Dooley has a great opportunity to show what he can do.

You said there's no evidence to support what I posted, so I provided an actual fact that was to the contrary of your statement.

I never said one word of support for or rationalized the claims that were brought up concerning the hostesses, and FTR, I thought it was ridiculous at best.

Its not my problem if you post something that's incorrect and get called out on it.

Your original assertion was that we made a lateral move Dooley for Kiffin because Kiffin was bringing the NCAA down on us. Then you cite as an example Hostesses going to a football game.

IMO – that is a weak argument to support your Dooley = Kiffin claim.

Yes he is. If it wasn't for Herschel Walker, Vince Dooley is Jim Donnan. However, i have no idea how his son will do. I'm neither excited nor depressed. A little lukewarm actually.

So yeah, Kiffin just pulled in the #1 class on NSD after the media had proclaimed UF the winner most of the day, and people here said Kiffin wouldn't pull in a Top 10 class.

Lot of crow to be eaten...
