You know just as well as I do that you can't judge a coach on WIN-LOSS record alone, there are multiple other variables involved.
It wasn't but 14 months ago that we hired a coach with an even worse W-L record that most everyone felt great about, though that was barely mentioned, since he'd just came from (the NFL equivelent of La Tech) Oakland.

Other than that, all we have is the recommendations of people who couldn't care less about our program. And the Raiders did improve a little under Kiffin. LA Tech isn't really any better off.Quote:

The Raiders played Detroit. And lost. (by 2 touchdowns)
But I don't care to participate in this argument because I think it is difficult to LOGICALLY compare the two jobs and leagues. I just think it's shallow minded to look at only Dooley's 3 year record at La Tech when judging his hiring.
Yeah, but so is a Toyota from a Yugo.
Look, we basically made a lateral move when Dooley was hired after Kiffin. Yes. Lateral. The [potential] baggage the Kiffin was bringing down on UT (NCAA investigations) makes it so...but I'll admit, the work that was done with Crompton was nothing short of great coaching.

He got JuWan James and Jacques Smith back when they left. He also nailed down Justin Hunter and James Stone. Got the state of Georgia's best(and the nation's) 9th best RB to switch his commit from Mississippi State. Not bad for someone who only got 1 real weekend to have recruits on campus.
One can only imagine what the class would have looked like had the snow not ran off several key guys last weekend.
BTW, his keen insight in his coaching hires has said just as much to me as anything. After tomorrow, when Chuck Smith becomes our new DL coach, this years staff(with the exception of Monte) will arguably be as good as Kiff & Co.[/QUOTE]
HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT! Look at our class. Take out Roger, Hunter, Stone, Nance. and the 2 stars and add Prater, Chaz Green, Cullen, Ambles, the Baylor safety, Robey, possibly Scroggins and probably some other surprises that Kiffin is known for.
The only thing that was keeping Kiffen from putting together the #1 class at Tennessee was Carrol and USC. Its hard to get kids to pick UT over USC when your preaching about how great USC was. With Carrol gone USC was going to get OSUs coach and we were going to raid their recruits.
I will never forget how excited I was when I heard USC was going after Pac 10 head coaches and how slowly I saw the river of lava flowing to Tennessee.
If he's an excellent recruiter based in Louisiana, then it shouldn't matter. It isn't like he's going up against a bunch of teams straight off the beach in recruiting hotbeds. He's also coaching against programs in jerkwater cities. His main competition is Boise State and whatever WAC team decides they want to be relevant for a year. Better that than the Broncos or Chargers with your boss selecting whatever awful players he wants.
Does our judgement change Dooley's coaching ability? We'll happily share our own opinions. If we're wrong, we'll admit it.
They aren't going for the same type of players that schools like LSU are. They should have the talent to beat Idaho.Getting their instate talent is akin to UTC trying to recruit against Tennessee in Knoxville for key players, it doesn't happen.
Even if LSU/Alabama/Texas/Miss State/Ole Miss/A&M don't rape their recruiting grounds, they still have to battle out Tulane and the states schools who are just as locally relevant (Monroe, Lafayette, Grambling, Southern, McNeese) for whatever eligible prospects are left in the state whom is ranked 44th in public school education.
This is a messaged board, and I'm here to discuss whatever it is about UT sports. Being a fan and rooting for a team isn't the same as changing your opinion so that it sounds better. No, it doesn't. I just don't see the point in bashing our new coach, or bashing those that support him. What is the point of doing so? You may be of the opinion that Dooley is a horrible hire, but it is as every bit of an uninformed opinion as those you are bashing for "toting the company line". I would be shocked if you have actually watched a full game that Dooley has coached, or are basing your opinion on anything more than his record at LA Tech. Of course you're entitled to share your opinion. I've just never been one to knock a man for his job performance before I've had a chance to see him in action myself.
Kiffin and USC are about to dominate the nation. He pulled in an amazing class in 2 weeks.
Barring NCAA sanctions Kiffin is going to make Carrols time at USC look like childs play. It is going to make me sick knowing it COULD have been us.

Conjecture at best. Say Kiffin leaves a week earlier, how do you know that we lose every single one of them?
