Have you checked the latest recruiting rankings? The blue bloods seem to be doing just fine.I don’t like what it’s doing any more than most. However, you have to play the game as the rules are established or you get left behind. Pretty simple really. I also agree with the comment about the blue bloods not liking it. It has taken away some of their advantages.
I don’t think Young can be used as an example to make a case of how it’s supposed to work, when Saban was telling everyone that Young was making 7 figures before he ever took a snap.
Herbie is complaining about using NIL for recruiting. Bryce Young got his at the beginning of his second year at Bama.
That’s what I don’t understand. I see people constantly saying this will only make the rich get richer but I disagree. Prior to NIL literally like 5 teams had a shot to win it all and about 8-10 teams had legitimate playoff hopes. Now Bama isn’t getting all the best recruits as A&M took like 8 of the top 25. We’ve clearly benefitted as well and so have some other teams. I believe this will spread the wealth. I do guess it depends on the perspective though. If you’re talking non-Power 5 teams then yes the Power 5 teams are definitely the rich getting richer. But even there, if they pay up they can get guys too. Look at Neon Deion. The “establishment” of college football (sorry I couldn’t come up with a better term) HATES NIL because it undoes the once iron clad advantage the blue blood programs had by paying players under the table. NIL puts all the cards on the table so to speak and lets more honest programs like UT enter the game. Herbstreit represents the “old money” world of College Football so I am not surprised by his outburst
While I somewhat agree there should probably be more detailed rules about NIL and using it as a recruiting tool has quickly got out of hand, Kirk should be ashamed for singling out a high school kid.
Say what you want about UT/Spyre, but leave the kid's name out of it.
In almost the same breath, he used Bryce Young as an example. BY had NIL deals in place in '21 worth $1 million before playing any significant snaps or becoming the starter. He played 13 snaps total that season, btw. Don't think for a second Saban didn't purposefully float that out there to bolster recruiting.
Kirk should be ashamed for being such a hypocrite and citing BY/Bama as a model while striking out against UT. I don't have any proof that BY knew this coming to Bama, but there's no way they haven't used it in recruiting since then. These kids know that kinda money is available. OSU is in the same boat as Bama and UT when it comes to NIL collectives. Him bashing one school while citing two others is ridiculous when all 3 are doing the EXACT SAME THING.
I'm not a huge fan of the Twitter mob, but I would be ok if Vol Twitter spent the next week roasting Herbie. He should be ashamed for singling out a kid and his opportunities on national TV and talking out of both sides of his mouth.
Kirk Herbstreit blasts state of NIL in college football, singles out Nico Iamaleava
How do you think it will cause problems, you don’t think that there’s already clear differences between elite prospects and everyone else? Thanks. I know how capitalism works and personally enjoy the fruits of it. But the NIL system is flawed and not doing what it was designed to do, which is shift recruiting away from coaches to businesses. It’s not good for the sport and can potentially cause problems in the locker room like Herby stated. He’s right.

Peyton was born into money. He wasn’t given money to perform. Nico was. If you can’t see the difference then I’m not sure what to tell you.
Oh they’ll do fine. But they’ll have more competition now and I guarantee you they don’t like it. You think a 5 star like Nico would have come from the left coast to UT if he wasn’t getting paid millions? I think not.Have you checked the latest recruiting rankings? The blue bloods seem to be doing just fine.
