Knecht

I'm 32, went to a ton of really bad Buzz Peterson games growing up.

There are times when I have frustrations with Barnes, but anyone who thinks he over emphasizes defense to the detriment of offense needs to go back and watch the 37-36 loss to Georgetown in 2012. We've had way worse. Not sure I've ever seen someone obsess over defense more than Cuonzo Martin.
Exactly and his defenses weren't anywhere close to as good as Barnes defenses either.

Don't forget the 46-38 loss to Virginia right after that one. That team had some scorers too: McRae, Golden, Richardson, and Stokes.

Just do a little research on the Wade Houston era. He is a very good man, though. None finer.

If you think it's bad here with the negavols, you should see Vol Twitter. The amount of Coach Barnes hate there is unreal. I'm going to sound like a real old guy here (only 31 lol) but I think it's mostly the younger crowd over there who are in their 20's and didn't really experience our down years though. They are accustomed to our "bubble watch" days.

They don't appreciate the yearly elite defenses we have. They want us scoring 100 ppg.
It's also a bunch of football fans who know nothing about basketball, couldn't likely name our 13 scholarship players, and simply demand perfection for the sake of it. In fact, we have a lot of fans who know very little about sports, in general, but social media has given them a voice, so they're perfectly fine spouting off in spite of their ignorance.

I never saw a NCAAT tourney games only disclaimer when the topic was brought up, my bad.
I said meaningful games. He is obviously gonna use a different rotation tonight than he will against a top conference foe. I used NCAA tournament games as an example because that the most meaningful games.

This guy is one of those guys who we always play against that shoots lights out and wish we had them on our team. Like a Marshall Henderson, Dougie McBuckets, Gordon Hayward, etc.

How did Tennessee actually get this guy?? A transfer that ACTUALLY balls out and puts up something close to his old stat line?

Who was the last grad transfer who turned out to be a success? John Fields?

Feel like we always underperform when we get these types of portal-transfers!

Dalton Kenecht CONNECTS!

John Fields was a success lol? If you counted Community College transfers (are those even a thing anymore??) Then you'd have to throw in Punter and Maze.

Those were JUCO’s, which yes, do still exist. Back to OP’s point, James Daniel was probably our best/most productive transfer imo.

The Tennessee coach that scouted Knecht deserves a bonus. Special player!

He wasn't a one-man wrecking crew, and a lot of our fans didnt like him because he looked like he belonged on an late 80s/early 90s basketball team, but Tyreke Key was statistically better than any of the aforementioned transfers.

Knecht is perhaps going to be the first to come in and actually be a true difference-maker, though. A lot left to prove, but early returns are extremely promising. I wish he had transferred here as a sophomore.

Really good point

Only the most extreme Pearl worshippers would ever claim that John Fields was a success lol. He was a total stiff.

If we are going back that far, it would be tough to top pre-injury Jeronne Maymon as our best semi-recent transfer. Averaged 12.7 pts and 8.1 rebs as a Junior and was All-SEC.

He hurt his knee prior to his Senior season and had to sit out and redshirt. Came back a year later and was very effective, but not nearly as quick or explosive. Still averaged 9.7/8.1 in his rSR season.

Larry Robinson and Danny Schultz for the win (best transfers). DS was even before my time as a UT fan, but Mears loved him. He was the picture on the Ray Mears Basketball Camp t-shirts.

No love for Maymon as a transfer? Not you specifically, just in general. He played well.
