KY loses 8 players--will the Vols take over the East?

while thats all well and good you have to realize a good coach can make it happen. we lost probably our best player halfway through the year and we were down to 7 scholarship players in a game agianst Kansas and we won. Also we ended up in the elite eight, all without our best player. Excuses don't work here.
and Florida beat a Michigan State team with All-American Kalin Lucas and they . made it to the Final Four without him this year. and that was all without a single starting caliber senior. but that's just one game just like your Kansas win, though three of your 7 scholarship players were senior, multi-year starters. Now imagine your entire team is wiped out after the 2006-07 season and you've had similar depth to that except no starting-caliber seniors since then. Yes, Tennessee beat Kansas with only 7 scholarship players but they didn't play the entire season with that kind of depth.

This isn't about making excuses but rather showing you guys while every contender in the SEC is taking steps backward, the Gators will be surging forward.

Oklahoma City has as much talent as anyone in the NBA. You think they can win it all? Of course not. Experience matters.

While I agree for the most part, the NBA is a totally different animal.

Perhaps. But don't forget that your "surging" squad was NIT bound this season if it wasn't for Chandler Parson pulling about 3 or 4 buzzer beaters out of his arse.

Donovan will underchieve, once again. Austin Rivers decommitting probably has him under his desk crying right now anyway.

really? wasnt this like the 5th game of the season? thats about as legitimate as Cuse loosing in an exhibition game. we beat Kansas and UK in the regular season as well as OSU in the tournament. a close win over Mich St. in the very beginning of the season doesnt compare.

Billy "Don't count on it" Donovan will never see another Final4. You heard it here.

Donovan's led his teams to one as a player and three as a coach. that's a pretty full career.

not sure Pearl's even been to one as a spectator.

once again I wasn't trying to compare victories or resumes. just saying that winning one game with a thin roster like Tennessee did doesn't mean playing an entire season on a thin roster isn't a detriment. the OP didn't even talk about the experience difference either.

like i said before this will be the first season Florida will field a team that has even one senior, start-caliber player since the last national championship team. and not just one but three senior, multi-year starters (kinda like Tennessee this past season). moreover, barring future injuries, they'll actually have a full compliment of players and won't be going into SEC play with only 8 healthy, scholarship players like they have been. last season was one of the worst perimeter shooting teams Donovan's ever had and it could be directly linked to almost every loss. even a marginal improvement in that regard would have had us challenging for second in the East. the perimeter shooting is going to get better as the swelling depth of our frontcourt will force teams to guard us more honestly on the perimeter and all of perimeter shooters who were adjusting to new roles on the team will have a greater comfort level. Kentucky, Vandy and Tennessee are incurring pretty big losses while Florida's going to be a lot better on the inside and outside. That's why i think they should be the favorites to win the SEC.

But for the sake of the thread, I will say this. Your not going to be "taking over" anything. Your losing ALL of your leaders and a lot of experience. While you are bringing back more than UK, your not exactly in a much different position.

You will be leaning heavily on a freshman class (Harris, McRae, Golden), and will probably stumble early as will the cats. Quite frankly, I think its a 3 or 4 teams race for the SEC next year, between the 4 teams from the east.

Will the Vols be a favorite? Possibly yeah. But its not a "take over" by any means.

I think Florida takes the SEC regular season next year. The Gators will get out of the gate quicker than either the Vols or Wildcats and finish the season with the best SEC record, despite stumbling a bit down the stretch.

However, I think the Vols will be the best team on the floor by seasons end and will make the deepest run in the NCAA tournament of any SEC team.

No matter who Kentucky lands in recruiting, there isn't a Walls or Cousins in this years class. Kentucky fans should be prepared for a "bubble" team next season, much the way Florida has been the last 3 years. The Wildcats will be playing their best basketball by the end of next season, but they might not have enough quality wins to get in.

It is becoming apparent that the NCAA will expand to 96 teams. When that happens you will have to be pretty bad not to get in. KY will be there every year, as will UT.

Ky has officially announced that 5 of their freshmen will be leaving school for the NBA draft. All are projected to be taken in the first round. Three seniors will also leave the team. If Cal can't win the NC with 5 first round picks, can we expect to take over the east next year? No one can lose that much talent and not have a drop off. No matter who KY signs this spring, they will not be as talented as this year.

Knight > Any UT point
Lamb > Best UT shooter
Miller, Jones or and Leslie (for now)= Harris
Leslie> Hall
Kanter> Williams

Sorry, but yes, UK will be picked to win the east.

That's consistency I tell ya what. Honestly bro, learn to troll or take your game elsewhere.

Why are you on this board beefing them up the way you do? I think everyone here knows you are not a REAL uk FAN. Why keep trying?

Because he's not a dumbass like some other UK fans that come on here and brag about their recruiting class.

A UK fan believing that there is no possible way that UK could ever be inferior? What a revelation!! I bet you also thought there was no way that UK wouldn't win the national title before the season had begun too....whoops...

Hell, more than half his list of bragging material has yet to even commit to Kentucky, let alone sign their LOI.

His post was generic troll garbage. "Every current high schooler we're recruiting is better than not only every player on your current roster, but also every signed recruit you have coming in."

I mean you come in and post that your team just picked up some commitments. Cool. But this kind of crap, get better material or get out.

Actually, I am in the "give Cal 3 or 4 years" camp, and always have been. I do think what Cal did in 1 year was remarkable, and something NO other coach could have done. We can agree there, can't we?

Don't be so hard on him. There is obviously only so much to work with upstairs. This is the kind of argument we let bosgap decide.

Then keep this thread up. I will be here to eat crow when those players are not wearing blue. But, I bet you won't be here to eat crow when I am right, and I am.
