KY loses 8 players--will the Vols take over the East?

Actually, I am in the "give Cal 3 or 4 years" camp, and always have been. I do think what Cal did in 1 year was remarkable, and something NO other coach could have done. We can agree there, can't we?

Yeah. No other coach could have POSSIBLY made the elite 8 with multiple lottery picks and 5 NBA draft picks. Just insane coaching.

Then keep this thread up. I will be here to eat crow when those players are not wearing blue. But, I bet you won't be here to eat crow when I am right, and I am.

If you're dumb enough to think that this group is going to be even close as good as the guys you got last year, you're even dumber than I thought.

You just need to face it; you had the most talented roster you have ever had, and guess what; you went no farther than Tennessee. That has to suck.

Why would it make any difference in year 3 or 4. Your roster is just a revolving door. He won't be able to build on multiple years of recruiting because everyone simply leaves after the first year.

What?!?! But Cal did the best coaching job ever! Surely they made it farther than UT?

Cal has a completely new school, system, and players. Patterson played for 2 different coaches. Harris and stevenson played for 3 different coaches. And then a long line of freshman to get us in the best shape possible.

Cal came in and OWNED bruce pearl and UT. OWNED the SEC, won an SEC title(something BP has never done and had YEARS to do it with a down UK). We will have a BETTER team next year. A team more suited for the college game. Knight, Lamb, Jones, Kanter........ Those guys are studs. Gilchrist is a flat out stud. Poole Will also be a great addition. You just keep reminding yourself over and over Cal will never have talented juniors and seniors to go along with 1 and dones. You are going to be very wrong.

In 5 years, after we have completely dominated the SEC and won a title or 2, talk then. Because all this Cal will never talk, is going to bite you.

See, here is the thing. By your logic, UT has 0 chance of ever winning the SEC. We are now at full strength. And If you could not do it in our down years, how the hell you think You can now.

Wow, a Memtucky wildtiger fan who actually boasts about winning the SEC. Every year calipari flops with multiple lottery picks on the roster, catspazz will provide weeks of entertainment.

Congrats on being known as a maverick program, now. I remember when uk was mentioned in the same breath as iu, unc, duke, etc. Not anymore.

Tennessee won the SEC title outright in 2008 Corky.

Why are you even talking about winning the SEC--SEC titles mean nothing to the Cats. I clearly remember this from a previous thread. Cal has won so many National championships, how could you even lower yourself to talk about conference titles. Remember, even if you should make a final four, it will be removed the next year. That is actually Cal's history. Get ready for many more great years as long as Wes can get the recruits for him, but you will never have a team more talented than this years team---dream on!

Knight > Any UT point
Lamb > Best UT shooter
Miller, Jones or and Leslie (for now)= Harris
Leslie> Hall
Kanter> Williams

Sorry, but yes, UK will be picked to win the east.
1.) Knight's not a point guard. He's a glorified shooting guard. Think a less turnover prone Tyreke Evans. It'll still work in the DDMO because all you've got be able to do is penetrate and kick out if the defense reacts to you. But yeah better than anyone Tennessee's got as long as he's not jacking idiotic threes like what almost cost his team the Mickey D's game.

2.) Lamb's going to KU or WVU, not UK. If you've somehow forgotten SG/SF is where UK is actually returning guys at.

3.) As a sophomore SG Miller averaged 6.5 points on 40% shooting with the defense keying in on pretty much everyone else on the floor except him. Don't know why you're trying to add him and either Jones or Leslie to him to equal Harris because that's debatable in itself. What's not debatable is Hopson + Harris > Miller + (Jones or Leslie)

4.) If you even get Leslie being better than Hall is not even a certainty. Leslie is skinny as a rail is probably better suited to play on the wing this coming season but UK would be forced to play a guy who needs to gain 30 lbs inside against a sophomore who's at least been through a collegiate season.

5.) Probably, if the allegations of him getting paid by his Turkish club don't negate his eligibility. We've still got to see how he adapts to the American game, more specifically to the DDMO which usually doesn't feed the post in the manner Kanter is accustomed to. There's a reason why before Calipari inherited and recruited guys whose stock was already in the 1st round (Patterson, Coursins and Orton) that the DDMO has produced no NBA bigs worth even mentioning.

Hell, more than half his list of bragging material has yet to even commit to Kentucky, let alone sign their LOI.

His post was generic troll garbage. "Every current high schooler we're recruiting is better than not only every player on your current roster, but also every signed recruit you have coming in."

I mean you come in and post that your team just picked up some commitments. Cool. But this kind of crap, get better material or get out.

A lot of current highschoolers could've come up with a more creative post, with more content as well. (The ___>____,ect post)

Stick to football. Your clueless. This post proves that:

A) you don't pay attention to much outside of your own state.

B) Refer to A.

I literally stopped reading after the Tyreke Evans to B Knight comparison. I'm no expert, but I don't see that atall.

The reason I replied with such a short non descriptive post, is that he LITERALLY almost whiffed on every single one of his 5 points. I don't have the time, nor the desire to try and convince someone of his type of their errors.

I would literally be typing until happy hour was over, and I don't miss happy hour.

HF, who would you rather have, Knight or Selby?

Everybody wants to use Knights recent struggles in all-star games to try and discredit his game somewhat. (which is rubbish. I like both of them, and honestly its probably a coin flip.

However, I think I like Selby's game better than Knight. They both have something the other doesn't, but if I had to pick one, its Selby.

But for the sake of the thread, I will say this. Your not going to be "taking over" anything. Your losing ALL of your leaders and a lot of experience. While you are bringing back more than UK, your not exactly in a much different position.

You will be leaning heavily on a freshman class (Harris, McRae, Golden), and will probably stumble early as will the cats. Quite frankly, I think its a 3 or 4 teams race for the SEC next year, between the 4 teams from the east.

Will the Vols be a favorite? Possibly yeah. But its not a "take over" by any means.

Fantastic post.

Hopson is nowhere close to being a leader, he is the absolute model of inconsistency.

Brian Williams is no Wayne Chism. Brian is going to need to show that he can dominate the paint and step up as a leader.

Agreed for the most part. Would you say that BWill made major strides the last 1/3 of the season?

Absolutely, I would say he took some big steps forward since coming back after the incident that got Tyler Smith kicked off the team. Is it enough to lead us to an SEC Regular season title? I'm not so sure about that.

He is a good rebounder, but he is atrocious at the charity strip.

Its going to be an interesting next season. If there is one thing I would love to see happen is for Hopson to step up as a leader. I would love to see a fire and intensity from him. While it may not be true, he has seemed pretty disinterested in a couple games this year.

I think his free throw woes are being a little overstated simply because of the MSU game. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I would bet that after he came back from the suspension that he was shooting between 50-60% at the line. Not good but not atrocious either.

The only difference is, Cal and UK fans acted like Zeus had unleashed Cal, Walls, Cousins, Patterson, Orton, and Bledsoe directly from Mt. Olympus. Cal is a great recruiter and a good coach. However, to act like he is the greatest coach and will never have a struggle while "dominating" the SEC and "winning a couple titles" is absurd.

The bottom line is that UK fans believed they would make a final four at the very least this year and they didn't with 5 NBA draft picks. They went just as far as UT with 1-2 possible NBA draft picks. Those are the facts. Anything else, from either side, is merely opinion.

Kentucky, unfortunately, signed two Number one recruits yesterday. I doubt they are too worried.

Regardless, they will not ever be more talented than this years team. He will always recruit excellent talent, but he has never won a national championship and likely will be out-coached every time he makes a final four---assuming he gets there. He had unbelievable talent and couldn't get there this year.

Well, it is interesting that after Knight committed, no other elite player is beating the door down to sign with UK. I'm sure he will get some more quality players, nothing like last year.
