Lady Vols Logo

Well, I said probably some powerful boosters are involved so I agree with you there. However, I don't think Nike is a factor and we've already debated that on this board. Nike doesn't care. They make money either way. Hart used Nike as a tool not the other way around.

Probably, if you mean he's trying to throw the blame on Nike. Some day, perhaps the truth will come out.

I don't think we'll ever know. The types that makes these kinds of things happen are masters at staying in the shadows.

I could be wrong, but I think it started with Adidas and there need to be able to sell more Tee Shirts,we did see the suppose smokey grey Tee Shirts that were just oh so special to UT,didn't they sell a bunch of grey uniforms to other schools ? that pretty muck looked the same ?

I do wonder if Nike said we would love to see the Lady Vols logo change,so we can sell more apparel, that makes more sense to me than anything else, now as to why Cheek,Hart or somebody wouldn't say No is the question that bothers me

changing the logo wouldn't bother me much, something along the power T with a bit of blue in it,would be fine and still saying Lady Vols, would be fine, with me

but to just drop the Lady Vols and act like it doesn't matter? they have merged the departments and numerous women were let go,not even having a chance against the men that took over,or so i am assuming, does anybody know why that happened ?

me neither,it is evident that Hart and Cheeks just don't care what the ex players and a lot of fans think about it,or they would have backed down and not go thru with this ill conceived idea

it is obvious they are concerned about the back lash of taking away the name of the Lady Vols Basketball team,or they would have stripped them of the name too,so why are the other Lady Vols teams losing there name ?

i guess it would have been difficult to keep saying we back Pat then and us fans would be on them even harder then,I'm sure in some way, money is involved with with them taking away the Lady Vol logo, some way or the other, how ? I'm not sure

weren't there a lot of e mails between Hart and Nike that they wouldn't make public or they disappeared ? i may be wrong on that, but I don't think so

why Cheek and Hart have no disregard for us fans and ex players,I just simply don't know,I will call them the Lady Vols of Tennessee till the day I die and hope that many others will too

That logic doesn't really work for me mule. As a Lady Vol fan I have both VOL and Lady VOL merchandise. If there were no Lady VOL I wouldn't have spent the money.

Fire Hart and put in Fulmer for AD! He's all VOL!

By the way-Air Force![/QUOTE
This!! I'm a huge fulmer fan and I'm still chapped about his firing. Ya know to me growing up a lady vol fan, I have lady vol gear that I wear specifically for going to the games or game days and I have different gear for the football games. To me, having different logos is a big deal. I grew up with the lady vol logo, and those who haven't wouldn't understand. Hart forced summitt out and that's all I need to know about the man. Bring in fulmer, bill battle or Bowden Wyatt for ad

The problem with Fulmer is he wouldn't be a front man and take marching orders. They'd still be the Lady Vols or he'd at least let the women athletes decide.

Every former Lady Vol I've spoken to wants to keep the Lady Vols name. I'm thinking their opinions matter more than a bunch of people sticking their nose in the situation. And given that 20 years ago no one cared less what anyone in the women's program called themselves, I find adorable as all get out that all of a sudden we've got these tidal waves of complainers grousing 'cause it's gotta be all this or all that or else things will never be perfect. As if things didn't spin along just fine for the past four decades. If the Lady Vols want to be called the Lady Vols then I say everyone else should just sit down and can it. And if the Lady Vols don't want to be called the Lady Vols, then change it and move on. Funny thing - I don't hear any of them asking for changes. *shrug* But like I said. Some people just gotta grouse. Gotta have it all this or all that or else things will never be perfect. Meh. MEH.

I understand the thinking, but it doesn't work that way.

I've been involved in several corporate takeovers, not exactly the same thing, but analogous enough to make the point.

When large company A takes over small company B, they usually rename company B. If they are smart (and they aren't always) they go through a multi-year transition, starting perhaps with "B, a division of A".

Having been both an employee of company A and company B, I guarantee that if the employees of company B were polled, they would overwhelmingly stick with their existing name.

There are important identity issues at play.

Having noted the usual case, I can add that in one case, I was at Company B, acquired by Company A, and company A was one of the best known in the world in its field. They automatically planned to change the name of company B, but they were stunned to find that, locally, company B had a well-respected name, better respected than Company A, so they dropped the plan to rename the company. (They later sold it, hmmm)

One can make the argument that the Lady Vols logo fits into this last example, and perhaps it does. However, the feelings of the company B employees, or he feelings of former Lady Vols will NOT be the deciding point.

Not really it at all. This is a progressive agenda. I was listening to one of the LSU gymnastics athletes during an interview on SEC network and she had her "One LSU" shirt on. And, Alabama has their "One Alabama" shirt. This isn't marketing or corporate driven. This is academic elites driving an agenda. Why would everyone want to be marketing the same brand?......."One This" or "One That"? Doesn't make any sense does it? Now we have "One UT" and we're just like everybody else.

Voltopia, they couldn't care less what the women athletes want. They don't want to know.

P.S.-I just recently talked to an acquaintance who had a relative who used to sit on the BOT. This person said that if the BOT disagreed with this then it wouldn't happen. We all need to be emailing and writing the BOT. (-It starts with Haslem.)

I know math is probably a difficult concept for you but there are over 8000 signatures on the change org petition which is 7996 more than 4. But, you probably already knew that since you know everything else.

That's all well and good but this isn't a corporate takeover. This is a bunch of people who aren't involved, who see a wounded animal and know now is the time to hammer their way home. As long as Pat was in charge they wouldn't dare whisper the idea of replacing the identity and the logos, but now that she's gone it's just fine to disassemble everything she and all those female athletes built over a lifetime at UT. All the praise, all the "blah blah Summitt has meant more to Tennessee such a great ambassador a pioneer in the sport" talk was just that - pretty talk for the cameras. Just politics. First they press her out of her job (for better or for worse, as it's a different topic and I don't know that I disagree about the decision, but the methods ... well), and then they come for the rest. Disappointing at best. Disappointing and disheartening that something which could be a positive (I remember Pearl pointedly laughing the critics out of the room when they asked about the "recruiting problem" that came with court being named after Pat) is just another thing to be stamped down and smoothed over.

The thing is, as I said, I wouldn't care one bit if the athletes that built it up were fine with the change. But I know a few, and they all seem to be very proud of what they did at Tennessee, and how they made something out of female athletes in a world that was largely indifferent. They're the ones who built it. They're the ones that should matter. And other people should just butt out. Nike and their bean counting cost savings should butt out. "One Tennessee"? Really? So we're going to demolish 40 years of tradition for a MARKETING CAMPAIGN? So all those years of work mean less than an advertising slogan? "Well we can't have One Tennessee if we have those pesky Lady Vols now, can we?" So let's just throw it out! Sure. Great.

People who couldn't care less who Tasha Butts or Nia Moore or Bridgette Gordon are, but they know the logos should be the same -- they should butt out. I don't care about the idea of the change, but it should be in the hands of the people who built it and value it.

I haven't seen the branding for other schools, but if it is all "One Whoever", I wonder if they're all affiliated with NIKE.

How many other women's programs now, across the country, use the world 'lady" in their name? My sense is not many. It is an antiquated term--and the fact is, the female athletes here represent The University of Tennessee. They do not represent the female students or programs or the former women's athletic department; they represent the university. Women should want parity in all things--but then I guess we're talking about the south here.

Probably, but if this is all about marketing which you'd have a very difficult time convincing me it is, then we'd really be stupid just doing the same thing everybody else is doing.
