How many other women's programs now, across the country, use the world 'lady" in their name? My sense is not many. It is an antiquated term--and the fact is, the female athletes here represent The University of Tennessee. They do not represent the female students or programs or the former women's athletic department; they represent the university. Women should want parity in all things--but then I guess we're talking about the south here.
Very few. I view it as a term of respect and "Lady Vol" is probably the strongest women's brand in the country. Just dumb to get rid of it.
