Lady Vols Logo

this is a old article, but they did make a very good point

"The press release, of course, did not address the many concerns raised by former Lady Vols: the hypocrisy of not actually using the Power T for every team, how this unification is really just having the men's logo forced on them, and all the history they feel is being erased"

Tennessee Won't Give Us Nike's Emails; Maybe They'll Give Them To You

So the Power T is a "men's logo"? Maybe that's the root of this problem.

well look at this ,now I know who is the driving force behind this move

Report: Nike told UT to keep quiet about Lady Vols changes

it does seem that Nike is the one behind this,so much for Hart and company saying this was going to happen any way

I just read this too

Nike To Tennessee: Don't Talk About What We're Doing

so Nike told them to keep this quiet,so the athletes and fans couldn't get behind a stop it program sooner

so the BOT and Hart agreed to hide this from the everybody ?

as I said

sad isn't it ?

I don't think it means Nike is behind this. It means now that they have invested all this money in the designs, marketing, logos, etc. they don't want anything to derail it now. They've spent too much money and they understand that boneheads are running the UTAD.

Listen, Nike is a sporting goods manufacturer. They want to sell as much product as they can. In our case it is better to have both logos because they'd sell more product. However, since they've been given their marching orders and have already probably spent millions going in this direction they'd probably want to come back and renegotiate if it was somehow reversed. It would cost ole Dave and Jimmy and UT a lot of money-especially at this point. To me this is more of an indication they want to get rid of it for women's basketball too. They think people are going to be so in love with these new designs that everybody will just say-hey let's get rid of it for women's basketball too.

but why tell them to be quiet and not let the Lady Vols supporters know ? for a year I believe

Once they were given their marching orders Nike started spending money. It is a big corporation. Big ships are difficult to reverse. Think of an air craft carrier. Those things don't turn on a dime.

well look at this

"This is the same company that saw no problem telling Jimbo Fisher that his 9-year-old son had to change out of an Under Armour sweatshirt."

"Said ABC cameras were on Jimbo and his Son at end of the game…His son was Wearing Under Armour FSU sweatshirt! Ouch. Can we please ask Jimbo to eliminate that from the son's wardrobe in the future!"

Nike to Florida State Coach: Change Your Son's Sweatshirt - WSJ

nice company huh ?

Went over 20+ years not buying NIKE gear due to a silent protest of them using sweatshops overseas to manufacture $2.00 shoes that they'd sell for $200.00 in America...to kids willing to kill for their possession. So no... They're not a "nice company". I've also come to realize that they're not unique. They sold their souls to make ultimate bank. So when this entity that focuses it's whole existence on profit and marketability, thinks that one brand increases the recognition and profitability of a logo? You can disregard blind emotion and politics as a motivation.

Integrity, honor, loyalty, reverent, trustworthy, giving, courtesy, kindness, and courage are antiquated too by the way.

but nice try! We're talking about a sports team. In the end this is about the old PS brigade not wanting to give up a team logo that means a lot to them. The university has to do what's best for the university. I notice that a university story referred to the softball team as the Lady Vols--and we of course don't have a men's softball team. I have a daughter who is an athlete, and I would cringe if she were on any teams that referred to themselves as "ladies." It's 2015.

Also, another thing you've got to understand Mule is UT released two emails. They released the emails they wanted to release. Let's see the hundreds of others.

Do you even pay attention AC? The softball team still wears the "Lady Vols" logos.

(You've really absorbed this liberal mantra that the term "Ladies" is somehow used to keep women in their place or some such. I know let's just call them the Tennessee Women Vols. Rolls right off the tongue doesn't it?)

Let's think of some more appropriate modern names that won't offend Armchair:

The Tennessee XX Vols

The Tennessee NTM Vols (Not the Men)

The Tennessee Non-Masculine Vols

The Tennessee Vols with Indoor Plumbing and Chest Appendages

Nike also doesnt like anyone talking about the cost to actually make its products in China (labor or materials), but its OK to clamor about the high price of the products in the US.

"Indoor Plumbing"....haha!

all Nike is wanting to do,is make it one logo,so they don't have to print more than one for any school

do you like the one with the rifle that says Vols ?I do, it will be gone, along with others

they did get the Sun Devils to give up a logo with the Sun Devil in it,I didn't know, that Mr Walt Disney was the one that drew it and it was the only one that any school had from him,why would Nike want that gone ? and why would the school go along with that? beats me

It is very difficult for me to believe that we would end the Lady Vols logo because Nike wants us to. People and tradition are less important than pleasing Nike? There are people in power who have decided to do this and are using this as an excuse and two non Vol front men as their means.

it isn't just the Lady Vols logo that will disappear, there are several others, People and tradition aren't very important it seems, evidently it is the lure of Nike's money, which is probably a big incentive for Hart and company and the BOT is agreeing to this too

and not much,if any thought was given to what the past and present athletes want and us fans too

LEAVE THE DAMN LOGO ALONE!
But, even if the powers that be win this battle, the fight isn't over. We don't have to buy Nike UT stuff, if there is a market for Lady Vol merchandise someone will make it and we can all still wear it and embarrass Nike, and Hart, and not have to pay the licensing prices! Clearly fans can and will still chant Lady Vols, and if we demand sports writers and commentators refer to them as Lady Vols it will further insult Nike and Hart. Fans should support players to only refer to their teams, and school as Lady Vols, the coaches may not get away with it, but the athletes sure can. All we have to do is boycott their UT product, and buy our own versions. Refuse to buy cokes in cups that don't say Lady Vols and just drink water out of the fountains at games. No program sales, no money to Nike and Hart. We deserve two logos, I don't care what every other school does, seriously Notre Dame has tons of logos ( Irish, Fighting Irish, Four Horsemen, etc) do you think the University still doesn't make money off these logos? Hell yes they do, and no one is going to tell them just use one. Auburn Tigers, Auburn War Eagles, Alabama Crimson Tide, Alabama Elephant, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Georgia Tech Ramblin Wreck, these schools still use several logos. If Hart wants to be stupid and let Nike say only one, then we should just refuse to use it as fans. Mickey Dearstone should come out and say even if the future changes for basketball too, he will still refer to them as Lady Vols. The local sports writers should get on the band wagon too, or we stop watching their news. We don't have to accept what Hart and Nike tells us, they want money, and they want the debate to go away, when it becomes a running joke that won't stop, they will cave in.

^ Let me know how that works out for ya. The majority of Vols fans don't care and will buy whatever is available. But good luck

Are you counting on ALL Vol fans bringing Nike to it's knees with this ambitious venture? Or just the Lady Vol contingent? Is this brand boycott supposed to take place at Neyland during the season? Football fans show up in orange Hanes shirts? Or is the loss of apparel sales at Lady Vol basketball and softball games going to spur this revolution? As Yankee just posted, you may have underestimated the capacity of Vol fans to not give a crap about this. Godspeed with your mission but don't go clogging the streets with 5s and 6s of your activists...ain't braking for ya! :drive2:

This is true. This is one language these people understand and is most important to them.

True also. The majority of Vol fans have never cared about the Lady Vols. They only seem to tune in when they make the final four or WCWS and then complain if they don't win it. But, for the minority of us who do care we can make them feel it in their pocket books.
