Larry Brown - Everywhere

I think this would be a good hire. NBA credibility. Tobias and Scotty would stay to be coached by him and use his connections. Would take attention away from Bruce's mess. Name would pop on recruiting trail. Would be done in 5-6 years because of age and probably have moved the program forward even more, allowing us to secure another great coach. Good idea.

It appears that Tobias is gone regardless of who the next coach is.

I'd take Phil Jackson too, but is the interest there?

He defiantly wants to return to college and during the debate with Skip, Andy Katz said he doesn't see any big 6 conference team taking Brown. If that's true, and Larry really wants to coach, sounds like all we would have to do is make the call.

whoever it is they better find a guy who is willing to work really hard at recruiting.... last thing I want is a guy who just because of his name sake thinks players will come... that's just not going to happen based on todays recruiting landscape

Why? His Dad just said he would wait and talk to the next coach in making his decision.

I know right! Why does everyone think its a done deal. The draft is still 3 months away and he can still test the waters without hiring an agent!

If Larry Brown took over the following would happen:
1. Hopson would stay
2. Tobias would staty
3. Jones and Ware would stay put and wouldn't ask out of there LOI's
4. He would hire young, talented assistants who would more than likely take over when he leaves/dies.

Almost a perfect scenario for the situation we are in.

No idea why I said Brown. Thanks for the correction. But I really think this is a possibility. If there is one thing we've all noticed over the course of Larry Brown's prolific career it's that he thrives off challenges. Needless to say, there is no other job in the nation where he would face bigger challenges (but potential rewards) than Tennessee.

yeah it might be a good hire. No one would be leaving, especially when they can get some instruction from a proven winner. He would bring assistants that can recruit and once they were on campus for an OV just talking to a guy with a NBA championship and being a coach of the year, would impress anyone. To me it is just a dream, but one I have no problem not waking up from.

Throw the money and beg him to come. This is one figure that could recruit thru NCAA sanctions regardless of how bad they are. No one would leave or ask out of their LOI....................... Hamilton be a man make ur first splash hire and save ur job...............

I'd be happy with Brown, if only for the instant street cred he would bring to the program. However, I'd still like to see someone young and "hot" in drivers seat over Brown.

I guess if we go for Larry, we can go after the next young and "hot" coach in 3-5 years.

I don't know about Larry. He's 70.

Edit: And I don't think he needs the money.

No he's not and hasn't been for a while.

and he is no stranger to sanctions either.

During Brown's tenure, Kansas had five NCAA Tournament appearances which included two second round appearances, one Sweet 16 appearance, two trips to the Final Four and the national championship. He also compiled a 135–44 (.754) overall record. Brown left under a cloud, as NCAA sanctions and a postseason probation were levied against Kansas following Brown's departure in the 1988–1989 season as a result of recruiting violations that took place during Brown's tenure.
