Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Limbaugh was still very wrong.... and you left out a portion of his broadcast where he said:

"Why do you think this is COVID-19?"

"This is the 19th coronavirus. They're not uncommon. This is coronavirus 19."

Of course, any idiot knows that COVID-19 stands for - "CO" for Corona, "VI" for Virus, and "D" for Disease. "19" refers to the year that it was first identified, "2019".
But why are you listening to him and/or care in the first place?

I agree. But the fear porn was out there on major news sites.

Do we know that it’s fear porn yet?

I don’t think a million people are going to die but I’m pretty sure that’s mostly because I don’t want a million people to die and not because I have some good information that it won’t happen.
I just can’t understand how a UT message board thinks it knows the outcome before the first quarter is even over....

Of course we don’t . But the initial modeling has proven to be crap. Which is good. And that will obviously call into question other modeling. What we can say with probable likelihood is round one wasn’t nearly as bad.

Antibody research indicates coronavirus may be far more widespread than known
The first large-scale community test of 3,300 people in Santa Clara County found that 2.5 to 4.2% of those tested were positive for antibodies -- a number suggesting a far higher past infection rate than the official count.
Based on the initial data, researchers estimate that the range of people who may have had the virus to be between 48,000 and 81,000 in the county of 2 million -- as opposed to the approximately 1,000 in the county's official tally at the time the samples were taken.
“Our findings suggest that there is somewhere between 50- and 80-fold more infections in our county than what’s known by the number of cases than are reported by our department of public health," Dr. Eran Bendavid, the associate professor of medicine at Stanford University who led the study, said in an interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer.

I really hadn’t followed the models.

This, from 4/9, basically say they got tripped up by bad info from China and revised down strongly based on info from Europe and then revised down again based on a presumption of social distancing through the end of May.

I will respond to your question with some Weezer style "what-about-ism":

Why does Donald Trump still watch or read The New York Times and CNN... and why does he care about what they report, if he truly considers them to be nothing more than "fake news"?

You are going to have a hard time pinning this on Trump when people on both sides were unsure about wtf was going on.
It's pretty easy to blame him actually ... Under Fire For Coronavirus Response, Trump Officials Defend Disbanding Pandemic Team
"I don’t know anything about it,” Trump said at the March 13 press conference. But a long list of experts, lawmakers and former officials spent the last 18 months warning that the Trump administration needed to reinstate ir before it was too late."

This question is right on point and will make most of these people's heads explode on here.

I don’t disagree but you are the one whining about a Rush this thread

Probably because he's a narcissist and cares what people are saying about him.

And the way you keep mentioning me, I guess I hit quite the nerve calling you on your hypocrisy. Sorry I hurt your feels. Some people hate to come face to face with their own bias.

Hasn't this whole disbanding the pandemic team been proven false already? I believe it was.

It's not hard. Somebody in his administration should have been all over it the minute anyone hinted that a new virus is emerging. If he would stay in his office instead of his golf courses he might be a little better informed. Trump failed the country. I just can't help but feel trump doesn't like to be bothered when he's relaxing.
I just can’t help but feel you like blaming trump no matter what happens

So Trump “did not “ eliminate it like was said .

No. And it smells like any other government or business “streamlining” I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately some lose their jobs, and claim it never should’ve been done. And the others who are retained realize it should’ve been done long ago.

The Reuter’s fact check sounds like it even is hedging saying it’s partly false instead of completely false by admitting that semantically the office was disbanded/eliminated and people were fired, but the actual PURPOSE of the office remained under a different title.

I think the quote I cited above explained it. He disbanded it with some members getting fired and others ending up in other parts of the admin. However, the pandemic response team was eliminated.

During his Saturday press briefing, President Donald Trump made this bold claim:

"I really believe it could have been billions of people (who died) had we not done what we did. We made a lot of good decisions." - President Donald Trump

Unless President Trump is suggesting that over 600 million people were going to emigrate to the United States from China in February, March and April, and all die from the coronarvirus, it is difficult to see how he is reaching a calculation in the billions. There are only 331 million people in the United States after all.

File this away for the next time you think Joe Biden is an old nutjob who says stupid things.
