Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Use your best judgment and decide for yourselves.

I am immunocompromised, as is my mother in law. So was my mom (she passed in April). My wife and I took the vaccine because we determined the short term benefit outweighed the long term risks. We're a very family oriented bunch and wanted to protect the most at-risk among us.

Those of you wanting people to get the vaccine, try a different tactic. Respect their choices and stop barking at them about what you perceive as their selfishness. Be kind and listen. Hear what they're saying. That doesn't mean you have to agree, but listen with an open mind and try to understand their choice. And above all, be kind.
Excellent post, agree 100%.

WOW, that is some fiery and cold-blooded rhetoric right there. Most people are not going to be able to handle the idea that some viruses are supposed to kill/purge a certain number of us. That is going to fly like a lead balloon to the "don't kill grandma" crowd.
I suppose it sounds pretty harsh. Everyone knows that in nature it’s survival of the fittest. Why should man be any different? We are top of the food chain until.... a little non sentient being decided we weren’t.
I’m not even throwing in the bonus gain of function covid theory which changes the discussion of the previous paragraph.

I'm going to St. Thomas on Saturday and had to get a Covid test today and upload it to a travel portal and answer questions about my trip in order to travel to an American territory. Yet, there are no conditions placed on me being able to back to the mainland a week later from what borders on being a 3rd world country.

They've been able to keep their Covid numbers really low thanks to geography. Requiring a test makes sense. And third world or not, you're not adding much to the mainland risk profile upon returning home.

Makes perfect sense doesn’t it.

Let me get this straight. 11 people from the same employer (a hospital) all got COVID at the same pool party in Vegas with 10 of the 11 being the Delta variant. None appeared to be hospitalized, but were tested after they had hay fever like symptoms..... after returning from Vegas..... It'd be just as plausible this was too many Margaritas and defectives tests than to believe this straight up.

Why would the blood supply dry up?
Public perception might play a part in that. There are allot of questions about blood donation and blood transfusion. Giving blood is no big deal if you have a great phlebotomist. Anyone who has given blood in the past knows this. Receiving blood is a different story. Not sure if the general public understands that the only difficulties that occur are really not on the donation side but to the recipient.
Even though standard testing of donated blood and removing leukocytes there are still many factors in packed red blood cells that can’t be taken out. Receiving blood is literally a as safe as medicine can make it. Having said that, I’ve given thousands of units of blood, plasma and platelets. I’ve only had 4 serious immediate reactions to packed red blood cells that are examined by a pathologist to determine exactly why they happened in 15 years. All determined to be factor specific.
I think more public education would help with this.

All of that makes sense. I was confused by the implication that mass vaccination would inevitably lead to dwindling of blood stores.
