Limit the gray uni

I love this argument, if only these people actually did some research before they opened their mouths, lol.

OP, if there were more people like you WAY back in the day there would be NO orange and white jerseys, they would've never come into existence. You claim to love tradition but clearly know very little of it with the whole we're UT, we're orange and white, we should never change that, black and gray aren't UT argument.
Either do your homework and learn the WHOLE truth about UT and its history or don't start threads. These blue-hairs are ridiculous with they're spouting off about traditions when its pretty clear they are probably the least knowledgeable about UTs entire history, and therefor traditions. I don't care that UT didn't honor its previous history when you were a kid, black and gray are as much a part of UTs history and traditions as orange and white and if you don't think UT should ever change anything then we should just go back to the beginnings and ONLY wear black and gray unis and get rid of these "new fangled orange and white things these young whipper snappers are wearing! We're UT we don't need those bright flashy things to bring in the recruits, just our TRADITIONAL black and grays!!!!"

UT is selling the brand to 18-22 old kids----colors and shiny things are what they like. Yes it's arbitrary and vain but so are 18-22 year old males. Friggen amazing how adults get caught up in an alternate uniform. If it nets us a top recruiting class I don't care if you take a dump in tinfoil and call it the UT hat as long as we get talent here at the university.

Wins and good coaching will get us top recruits. An alternate uni might snag one or two less talented recruits. jmo

I like the gray and nobody can say it didn't add some much needed swagger. Next time we need to go with gray armor helmets.

I agree. Matte gray or carbon fiber would look good too imo. The white helmet just looked out of place with that uni.

Agree but the uniforms are a part of the selling it's just marketing for the university. I don't think any kid would come here for a new uniform. I didn't see all the old fogies get all upset because they put a miniature picture of the state on the back. Quite frankly I'm ok with any edge at all to sell the AD and the football program. Obviously no ones going to go crazy with the uniform stuff Dave Hart and all those guys are staying true to Tennessee.

I loved the grey uniforms, just wished they had a grey helmet to match it. People need to stop the "that's not us" or "they are ruining our tradition". You either get on board with the changes or get left behind in recruiting. There is nothing wrong with changing up the uniforms once a year. I hope they wear black come USCe game.

You are obviously fixated on tradition. Those unis we're simply awesome. I wish they'd wear them most of the time with the occasional orange and white as the "alternate" uni.

Look at your avatar. Why would you want to wear anything other than that? It's sweetness...

So for those "traditionalists" out there, who evidently did not see the press releases and the news conference / fashion show:

1) The gray color - brings back the 1939 Vols, the last team to go undefeated, unscored upon, and untied in the regular season in the NCAA

2) The double wide stripes on the pants - Remember the 1988 SugarVols...check out the stripes

3) The Power T on the hip - From the 1994-1998 Vols...45-5 record, best team record of any 4 year stretch in the SEC (Bama is getting close)

4) Checkerboards in the numerals - For the endzones, first introduced in the 60s

5) Base color is still ORANGE - because like Coach Butch Jones says "It's ORANGE, it's TENNESSEE, and it's who we are!!"

I for one LOVED the gray and can't wait to see what the alternate uni looks like next year.

Alabama says hi, and wishes to remind you that they've had no trouble recruiting all while looking indistinguishable from how the did 50 years ago.

If you like the gray that's certainly your prerogative, but to say we have to wear stuff like that to keep up in recruiting is just not grounded in anything factual. With the right recruiters it is possible to be successful while staying true to who you are at the same time.

I agree. I'm not saying they looked bad. I'm just saying that our orange and white combo looks better. Even the storm trooper and white on orange road uni's look better.

The all white "storm trooper" unis will always be my fav.....they are just sick.

its going to be ok ....really it is. the changing of the uniforms is not as big of a deal that people are making it out to be. If you don't like the change then that is you but your argument does not make you right. I don't have a problem with it myself. I don't want to see it every week but once a year, Im fine with it.

It is what it is, which is something I have no control over. If it were left up to me, those jerseys along with the black ones would never have seen the light of day, but obviously I have no say in the decision.

The argument that we MUST wear stuff like that to have a prayer of keeping up in recruiting just gets tiresome because it's so factually inaccurate. The team that has won 3 of the past 4 NC's hasn't changed their uniforms in over 50 years.

I like the grey unis as they are pretty unique looking with the orange, But everyone and their cousin is doing black now, and I hope we stay away from it and just use the grey and white and orange.

That's not us guys. The replays and still photos of the UGA game irk me just a little. I have no problem with using the Gray uni once a year but no more than that. We are orange and white. That's our brand. And, yes i know that our performance on the field is what is most important. Flame away :machgun:

Dude, not gray it's smokey.

I don't mind them on a limited, night game basis. Add a "carbon fiber" type helmet to complete the look.

Nothing beats orange though.

because alabama decides not to change uniforms, UT cannot?

Never said that. Just offered them and their success as an example to refute the ridiculous argument put forth by some posters that in order to keep up in recruiting we MUST wear alternate uniforms.
