Yeah, I really didn’t believe it until watching the game, but they have to do something soon. Maybe I’m overreacting but it looks bad. Is it possible that Miami has improved that much? I was with you on Napier having another year, and I still kinda think so, but they need to play better than I saw. With that schedule things look grim for Napier.

Miami is good. Ward needs some discipline but is a very exciting QB prospect for the NFL.

I don't have an issue with Miami being better than expected. My criticism of the Gators is yet again regression in so many aspects of the game. Offensive and defensive lines completely outmanned. Offensive plays very slow to develop. Defe give secondary lost and staring at each other after easy passes made against them. Needing a timeout after a commercial.

Just bad. Really bad.

I see what you’re saying, but Miami could end up being a top 5 team this season . They beat you up pretty good, but that doesn’t mean you’re bad. Not yet.I just looked at their schedule, they’ll be favored in every single game the rest of the season. They’re better than expected , which is completely a 180 from the way it’s been the past 20 years. I’m just not comfortable talking down to the team who has been the biggest thorn in our side for the last 30 years .

I think the Texas A&M, UCF and UK games will decide Napiers fate. He HAS to win at least 2 of those. All of them at home.
Yeah, I agree, and I think all of the games you mentioned are winnable. Not easy but winnable. First off I think @lawgator1 is right in that Napier better beat UCF! Do that and beat Kentucky or aTm and Napier might get more time. My question is “when should they just cut the cord and start anew?” I’m starting to lose faith in Napier, I’m sure the Florida faithful is as well. I honestly expected him to do better, but in his defense, perhaps Miami is just very good.

He cannot lose to UCF. Period. Not debatable.

A loss to UCF and he might as well call the movers on the drive home.
If you guys lose to UCF I would offer Gus the job on the spot. You could do a whole lot worse. I don’t know of anyone that you are potentially going to hire that has the resume that Malzahn does.

My criteria are:

1) Can keep Lagway here.
2) Can let the assistants do their jobs.
3) Can keep Lagway here.
4) Emphasis on speed and fitness.
5) Can keep Lagway here.

Napier needs to first fire himself as the OC. Lagway likely start next week since Mertz suffered a concussion. Let Lagway know if he plays well next week, he’s the starter going forward. Of course he’ll struggle against better competition but he’ll also have some spectacular plays. I think Napier is gone after this year. The only hope of keeping Lagway is letting him play and opening up the offense. He may still transfer out but keeping him on the bench watching Mertz is insanity.

Florida has about 3 games left they can win; Samford, Miss State, UCF. I’m not sure I see any others, and Miss State and UCF certainly aren’t guaranteed.

So the question becomes, who is the next coach? I’m way past the “never Lane Kiffin” stance I once held firm to. I’d take Kiffin with hat-in-hand humility at this point. I’d also at least speak with Urban Meyer, something tells me he’s not done and doesn’t want his career to end with the Jaguars debacle. If he wants back in to coaching, find out.

Rumors from places I trust were that Lincoln Riley made overtures to Florida people before taking the USC job. For reasons known only to God, our AD chose Billy Napier without even returning a phone call to Lincoln Riley. That ship has likely sailed but at least make contact. I’ve also heard that through the end of last year, he wasn’t thrilled at USC or the west coast and wanted to come back east. That’s probably wishful thinking, but find out.

One name I edited in: Dan Lanning. Yes, I’m aware he has the world in his palm at Oregon, all the money and resources he could hope for. But I’ve also heard he wants to compete in the SEC at a head coaching level. Again, find out. If he’s an SEC guy and misses the southeast, you need to find that out.

Outside of that, you’ve got guys like Gus Malzahn, Jedd Fisch, Mark Stoops and some others.

A Hail Mary would be Deion Sanders. I know, I know, but could you imagine him recruiting in Florida? He’d amass talent if nothing else.

We’re in the worst stretch of Florida football in my adult life. Not only are we going to lose between 8-10 games, we’re going to get f*****g throttled. 63-10 type scores.

I’ll end with this; Napier is 1-8 vs rivals (FSU, UGA, TN, LSU, Miami). That record will be 1-11 after this season. No way he survives that.

My first call, if I'm Florida's AD, it's to Lance Leipold.

The man got Kansas ranked. And there's no way Kansas could outbid UF if they wanted him that bad. He's at $7 million at Kansas at the moment. Billy is costing more than that for mediocre performance.

Yes, it's a "lateral" move, but it would be from a super G5 conference (which is what the Big 12 has become) to big boy football.

I’ve heard his name a lot too, and I like him, certainly not opposed. But he’d be a little past that Meyer/Kiffin/Riley level at this point.

The Gators are going to struggle for awhile but its at a point where they bite the bullet and try to get things righted immediately, or just drift further and further behind.
We are all hoping for the continued drift back to 1979.

Actually I want them to be good enough to give Billy a few more years.

Oh, and you have no idea what it is like to wander the wilderness we have been in prior to Coach Heupel. None.

I didn't realize Leipold was that old... not that age is a huge factor to an extent.

I understand the PTSD Vols fans have from years past, but your team is excellent and the Gators are in complete disarray right now. If the game were in Gainesville I'd give us one shot in 20 of winning. But in Neyland? More like 1 in 100.

People looking to parachute out of UF already I suspect, including Lagway. If I'm the Gator administration I'm taking him aside and promising that in the off season we will double his NIL deal and hire a coach with some speed-oriented offensive chops. Try to build a team around him in the next 2 years.

History says the roster takes a significant hit.
A sizeable portion of the players in 2024 will shop their wares in the portal when the coach who wanted them for his offensive or defensive philosophy gets canned. Even a prestige program like UF.
